Apr 23, 2017 - Tehachapi, CA to Boulder City, NV

We left Tehachapi shortly after 8:00 this morning. The Tehachapi Mtns were mostly covered with clouds. It was a little breezy but it was pushing us & not a problem - helped the fuel mileage. We enjoyed the trip across the Mojave desert. The desert mountains & Joshua trees are always interesting to us & there were still wildflowers & bushes blooming in the desert. The wind turbine installations have increased just since we were thru here last October & there were some really huge solar installations near Barstow & close to the CA/NV state...

Mar 25, 2017 - Hoover Dam and Lake Mead

Our big excursion while in Las Vegas was to travel back to Hoover Dam and Lake Mead. Truly an engineering marvel, this structure made possible the development of so many of the southwest's large metropolitan areas: Los Angeles (they get 50% of the water from the water allocated from the lake), Phoenix, Tucson, Las Vegas and San Diego. Also, it supplies much of the electric power for the region. Without AC the desert communities never would have flourished.

Sep 19, 2016 - Hoover Dam

Sep 19, 2016: Stayed in Boulder City last night and went to Hoover Dam this morning. My watch put us there an hour early and I'm glad it did as we were the first tour to go through. There was a long line of traffic waiting to get in when we left the place around lunch time. We have spent the afternoon doing some laundry and tomorrow are heading to Valley of Fire SP above Las Vegas. Not stopping in Vegas as I left nothing there last time. Tomorrow night will be spent in Zion NP in Utah. Looking forward to doing the Narrows Hike.

Feb 18, 2016 - Last Day In Las Vegas

Today is our last day in Las Vegas. I marked the map as Boulder City, site of Hoover Dam, so that the map would give a more accurate picture of our route. Today we're into cable television attractions in Las Vegas. We've been by the Pawn Stars shop. It's a tiny little store at the end of The Strip and they only admit a set number of people at one time. Each time we went by, people were lined up outside waiting to get in. We headed over to Rick's Restorations. This guy takes junk, and for a price, restores it to brand new condition. Soda...

Jan 25, 2016 - Lake Mead

Today’s route looked straight on the map, but we haven’t driven so many twists and turns since we left Maritime Canada. By the end of the day nearly all the clothes in closet were on the ground and we found a white plastic piece and a piece of molding in the hall. We have no idea where either piece came from, but it’s bound to become obvious eventually. A half day drive took us through three states, two time zones and altitudes that ranged from 300 to 3,500 feet. Once again we were surprised. We are trying to be more cognizant of elevation...

Apr 7, 2015 - Zippity-do-dah

Impulse Buyers and Adrenaline Junkies we are not. Yet, on a whim, during our stay in Boulder City, Nevada we took a zip line tour on nearby Red Mountain. Now, we hadn’t planned on this adventure before we arrived. One day we were hiking up the Red Mountain trail – a trail that offered stunning views of the valley – when we noticed a series of zip lines way on top of the mountain. Hmmm…that would be an interesting way to see the valley. When we got back home, we goggled “zip line tours” and found that the zip line office was right down the...

Mar 31, 2015 - Boulder City, NV

On the road again down I-40 (one of the roughest roads in the country) to Hwy 93 across the Pat Tillman/O'Callahan bridge below Hoover Dam into Boulder City where we stayed at Canyon Trail RV Park. As returning guests, this park treated us very nicely. While Ken and Connie ventured into Las Vegas, Dale and I found Boulder City Brew Pub and had a delightful lunch outdoors while sampling some local beer. We stayed at this park for two nights before heading on.

Mar 14, 2015 - Relaxation time

We have been here at the Elks RV Park in Boulder City since Thursday. This past week, we were at the Oasis Las Vegas Resort and our friends Willie & Margie were just down the street at the Southpoint. As always with these great friends, our time together was too short. Willie and I skied 2 days up on Mt. Charleston. The first day was spectacular with electric blue sky and awesome views. Sorry I don't have the photos to show, but we were having way too much fun on the slopes. Willie gave me some pointers and I feel as though my skills were...

Nov 15, 2014 - Las Vegas / Boulder City

Las Vegas and Boulder City, NV We had 6 weeks to wander around the Southwest before our reservation in Casa Grande began for our winter stay. Where to go next? We decided to stop in the Las Vegas area to amuse ourselves (more on how later). Rather than stay in the heart of Vegas, we found a highly-rated RV park in nearby Boulder City. We have been to Las Vegas a number of times, both for business and pleasure; but we never explored this area. Boulder City is only 20 miles from Las Vegas, but separated by a mountian range, the cultures of...
