Oct 12, 2016 - Beatty NV

We changed plans again Monday and did a little backtracking, then put about 5 hours of driving behind us. We headed north on Hwy 50 from Dayton to I-80 for some fuel, then took Hwy 50 to Fallon, then hung a right onto Hwy 95 south to Beatty for a couple nights. In case you have been wondering, there is a lot of sagebrush and dirt in Nevada. And not much else. But when the weather is nice it is actually kind of beautiful if you look past the sagebrush and dirt. Some of the views as we drove today were expansive and stunning. But then again...

Apr 29, 2016 - First Week - Travel Season #7

It is hard to believe that we are starting our seventh season traveling the roads of this country. We are traveling for the second season in our comfy motorhome and towing the ‘Rocketeer’. The first part of our journey is north to Eugene, OR where we plan to have a state of the art solar system installed on ‘the Nest.’ A good part of the journey we used US95 climbing north through central Nevada. Once north of Las Vegas, we began encountering steady headwinds in the 15 to 20 mph range. An RV park in Beatty, NV was the day’s goal. Just...

Apr 8, 2014 - The middle of nowhere

If this isn't the middle of nowhere, you can see it about 100 yards up the highway. We arrived safely in Beatty, Nevada early this afternoon after an easy 243 mile drive from Kingman, Arizona. Named for an Oasis Valley rancher Montillius (Old Man) Beatty, the town was founded in 1907 to serve gold miners around the Death Valley and Rhyolite area. The town has had many faces over the years since...mining, railroad hub, tourism (access to Death Valley) and, since 1951, housing workers for the nearby Nevada Atomic Test Area. Despite all this,...

Oct 27, 2013 - Yosemite

Friday, October 18, 2013 After breakfast we left Hilmar and headed towards Coarsegold. We got to Oakhurst just in time for lunch at Todd’s Smoke House which is our favorite BBQ joint in the country. Besides the normal menu items I really like their smoked turkey and sausage and Sharon loves their Jambalaya. Then we checked into the Escapees Park Sierra in Coarsegold and we were invited to their annual board dinner. They had over 200 people and an excellent dinner with a couple of hours of comedy entertainment afterwards. We stayed hear a...

Today started out ok ..... but Fran gave the wrong turn info but we got it corrected very soon. The winds was ok for most of the day .... just strong winds for about 30-40 miles past Indian Springs (must have been those pesty aliens). We arrived in Beatty and just started relaxing because the winds are really blowing here and not much to do, it is just a chilling spot. So until the next time ............ Have fun and stay safe! God Bless Ken and Fran

2013 - Here we come

May 4, 2013 - Beatty, Nevada

We planned to leave for Death Valley early this morning and made a good start except for one small detail…our brake buddy system that pairs with the motorhome and allows us to tow the Jeep was not working correctly. The brake lights, signals and flashers on the Jeep were not working with the Coach’s system as they should. Bob spent all morning until 1:00 fixing it. We went to two local RV stores. The first one refused to help – and were rude about it. Claimed they didn’t have the parts etc…then claimed they could help…then said they changed...

Nov 8, 2012 - Traveling Route 66

We left Carson City on Nov 5th staying in Beatty, Winslow AZ, and arriving in Albuquerque yesterday. Of course the election was paramount on our mind on the 6th. It was the only park that didn't have cable TV so following the reslults came trom texts. Obama 4 more years! So Happy! A point of interest on the drive was Meteor Crater. It is the largest crater on earth created by a meteor. The impact 50,000 years ago left a crater a mile across and 559 feet deep. Pretty amazing! Our destination here was to meet up with Chris and Larry each of...

Jul 30, 2012 - OTRA - NV - Beatty

So, off we go today, on to Beatty, NV and the Space Station RV Park. Today's drive took us - again - through some beautiful country. I really wish we had a camera that can see and capture exactly what we're seeing with our eyes. I'm including some pics of the beautiful mountains (you KNOW I love mountains!!) and I'm sorry if you get tired of seeing them but they're just so different and so beautiful. Pulled into the RV park around 3:30. Not a fancy park, by a long shot, but it had what we need and the neighbors seemed nice so it'll do for...
