Sep 4, 2010 - Travel to Warrenton, MO

After fueling the Phaeton, we left the Flying J Travel Plaza in Salina, Kansas, at 8:15 am and headed east on I-70. It was 56 degrees then and sunny. We traveled east through Kansas City, over the Missouri River, and into Missouri. About noon, we stopped at a rest stop to prepare and eat lunch. We continued east and saw many large cornfields. Most of the corn was dry and about ready to cut and mill for feed. On other farms, workers were loading bales of hay. The landscape continued to change from the grasslands of the prairie as more trees...

Blessed To Travel

Jul 9, 2010 - Visiting Friends in Warrenton, MO

We Americans move around a lot. I've learned that is not just a new thing. We've always moved around for new opportunities. Two of our friends from Massachusetts, Larry and Linn Whitlock, retired and moved to a small town 50 miles west of St. Louis to be nearer their daughter. Larry was a Baptist pastor like me and always lived in parsonages so he and Linn are really enjoying their own home. It is beautiful and sits on one acre of land with a great yard. They both love birds and so have many feeders in the yard. We saw hummingbirds,...

Jun 2, 2008 - A Good Blur

Good days go by so fast. Even though we had one or more of the “Tennessee grandkids” with us for sixteen consecutive nights, it seems that all sixteen of those are just a blur now…..a blur of more good memories. I sit here writing this entry approximately twenty four hours after saying good-bye to them. We returned Micah & Joelle to their home in Franklin, late yesterday afternoon. After being fed dinner by their parents & visiting a bit longer at their home, Vicki & I sensed that all of the excitement was beginning to take its toll on...

We're Wingin' It

Sep 16, 2006 - Our Maiden Voyage/Montgomery City, MO

Only about ten days later than we'd originally planned it, thanks to my unexpected appendectomy earlier this month, we finally made our inaugural trip in Millie the Motor Home. (By the way, is an appendectomy ever expected?) We loaded up Saturday morning and finally got out to the farm around 2:00. By then we had received numerous phone calls asking where on earth we were! Hey, it was our first trip, after all. We had clothes to pack, sheets and towels to bring, and naturally we decided to let our cats get their first little smell of the...

Sep 2, 2006 - On the road again

We didn't want to leave the Cody area, but since we have places to go & things to do, it was back on the road again. We'll be back, we just love it here! Our travels took us south through Thermopolis and on to Rawlins where we stopped for the night. In the morning, it was east on I80. We passed through Laramie & Cheyenne & on to Chappel, NE., for another quick over-night. We had passed though Sidney, NE. Sidney is the national headquarters of Cabelos! So, of course, after we got set up at the campground, we just had to go back and check it...

Apr 28, 2006 - Tennessee is a Long State....Into Missouri and Home.

Heading west out of Chattanooga, it was yet another scenic crossing of the beautiful Appalacian Mountains. After another stay at Days Inn in Manchester, Tennessee, it was westbound through Tennessee, crossing the Mississippi River again just south of Caruthersville, Missouri. Along the way we saw some of the damage done by the recent tornado that crashed through that area. The drive up I-55 to St Louis was un-eventful as was the remaining trip west and back to Hermnann. It was a very nice, although rather hurried trip. We are already...

Apr 21, 2006 - To Hermann to Baby-sit the Grandkids

Heading to Hermann today to watch the grandkids while their mom and dad take some well deserved time off to themselves. As we won't be around much this summer, this is a great chance to spend some time with the kids. We will also be leaving Monday for a week's tour of the South with the Coles. Stay tuned for the play-by-play.
