Apr 21, 2015 - Monroe City Missouri (Hannibal)

Our drive to downtown Hannibal was very direct, jump on US 24 and we are there. We wanted to take the Mississippi River cruise on the stern wheeler, problem is there are no cruises today. It would have been kind of cool on the water today since the wind was blowing very hard. Ended up taking a cruise on the Trolley Tour instead which was nice, the driver knew a lot. Hannibal is not a city that you need to spend more than one day to see everything. Samuel Langhorne Clemens, Mark Twain, grew up in Hannibal and everything has his name...

2015 Westward Ho

Apr 20, 2015 - Monroe City Missouri (Hannibal)

As we depart the city of Independence Missouri for points east, we feel so blessed that we are able to travel and learn the history of this great country. The reading that I have done on this trip about the history of this country and the areas that were settled as we marched to the west as frontiersmen. It was a not so pleasant during that time of this country’s birth. We travel the back roads of America most of the time, the remainder of this trip will be on US 24, the Anthony Wayne Trail in Toledo. U.S. Route 24 (US 24) is one of the...

2015 Westward Ho

Nov 5, 2012 - Back at Mark Twain Lake

We moved back to our same site, #21 at Indian Creek. With full hookups, large open spaces and a 50% senior park discount, what's not to like. This will be home for 3 nights while we watch the election returns and then consider the results. During our brief stay here, we have done laundry, read books and just plain relaxed. That is until it was time to put everything together for travel. The new solenoid, chose not to work. So I had to go out and manually release the valve that controls the right rear jack. With that completed, I then spent...

Dream On

Nov 1, 2012 - Indian Creek Recreation Area on Mark Twain Lake

Since it is over 300 miles up Moscow, Iowa, and we don't like to drive more than 200 miles in any one day, Mark Twain Lake was a great place to spend the afternoon and evening. We'll try to stop here for at least 2 nights on our way back next week. Full hookups, great setting, lots of space between sites; another great Corps of Engineer campground. With this short entry, you may deduce that we're getting tired of running around and looking forward to getting to a warm spot to sit for a "spell." More from down the road......

May 17, 2012 - Mark Twain Lake

Wednesday, May 16, 2012 – Our mail did not arrive at the post office. We hardly expected it to since we called on Monday and two days does not seem enough time for mail to travel from Livingston, TX to Heber Springs, AR. So today is the house cleaning day. We decided to clean the trailer and wash clothes. It took longer to wash and dry two loads of clothes at the Laundromat then it took to dust, clean, and sweep out the trailer. Sure like cleaning house that quick!! We also moved to the JFK COE Park just down the road from Dam Site COE...

2012 travel

Sep 6, 2011 - Monroe City, Missouri

9/6 – 9/18 It took us 2 days to travel 201 miles to Monroe City, Missouri (US218, US61, US24). We stopped for a Wal-Mart night in Keokuk, Iowa. Our campsite for this stop was in Indian Creek Recreation Area, another COE project. It was a beautiful place to park our house. The squirrels were busy knocking the acorns off the trees so they could collect them and bring them to their winter storage area. Unfortunately our house was under one of the trees that they were working on - it created quite a racket when the acorns hit our fiberglass...

May 15, 2011 - Monroe County, Missouri

The five star Corp of Engineer park lured us into this section of Missouri. With 2,775 acres of shore line it is both beautiful and large! As is our custom, after setting up, we took off for "town". Monroe City's history has been entirely shaped by the c. 1800's migration of folks from Virginia, Tennessee, and Kentucky. Settling along the river the migrants brought characteristic antebellum archecture and cultivated similar crops as back East. Soon their new area was referred to as "Little Dixie". Missouri claims at least 18 famous people....

May 2, 2011 - May 2, 3, 4, & 5th

I went in to work Monday and Tuesday at 7:00 am so that I could take off a couple of hours early on Wednesday. When I got off Wednesday at 2:30 I rushed home so that we could head to Kelsey's in Knob Knoster. We got to Sedalia around 5:15 and Kelsey and Brett met us at Coltons for dinner. After dinner we went to their apartment, watched American Idol, visited and hit the sack as we had plans to leave at 5:20 am and head for Springdale, Arkansas where we are picking up our new Mobile Suites fifth wheel. We woke up and left Kelsey's earlier...

The Wild Ride

Apr 28, 2011 - April 28 thru May 1 - WORK WORK WORK

We devoted these four days to getting a lot done around the house. The weather was really nice so we ended up working the entire weekend outside. We mowed, weeded, spread lots of mulch and did some work on the exterior of the house. Saturday, April 30th we spent most of the afternoon and evening at Mom & Dad's house as we had a carry-in and game night in honor of Mom's 80th birthday. Sunday, May 1st we finished up our outdoor work and prepared for the work week ahead of us. (Janet)

The Wild Ride

Apr 24, 2011 - Easter Sunday

We are camped at Indian Creek Campground. Terryn woke up and she threw some easter eggs on ground in front of their camper for me. The easter bunny had already been there and scattered easter eggs. After Kolton got up, they excitedly ran around their camp site picking up easter eggs. We walked over to the playground with Terryn so she could play on the monkey bars. While she was playing I looked in the woods nearby for mushrooms but didn't find any. Kristyn, Terry and the kids left since they need to get home to get ready for school and...
