Jun 17, 2012 - Hermann, MO

We had a wonderful 5 days in Hermann. It was so great to be able to spend time with the family. Jan, Nikki & Jim arrived on Thursday as did Mike's niece and her family. On Friday his sister and her friend arrived. We were able to spend some time with both Don & Jeff before the wedding. We shared meals and Jan, Gigi, Nikki and I got in some chat time. Funny, we never did get talked out! We stayed at the campground in the City Park. It was very nice, a nice long pull-through site with full hookups. However there was no wifi nor cable TV. We...

Jun 13, 2012 - Branson to Hermann

We left Branson on Wednesday for Branson. We stopped at Sullins RV to have the toilet fixed again. The part that came in was the wrong part....par for the course according to Rodney the owner. This happens about 50% of the time. The mechanic decided to put some conditioner in and let it sit in the bowl. They told us to do this for four or five days and it may take care of the problem. They do it automatically when they winterize their units. We don't winterize our because it's either in the garage or we are in it some place warm. Long story...

May 23, 2012 - Jeff City to Hermann

We had a delicious breakfast at our B&B before heading back out on the KATY. I miscalculated the miles today. Somehow my brain processed that we would only be riding about 35 miles today, but it ended up being more like 45. Now one advantage of riding the trail from west to east is that the wind is usually at your back. But today Mother Nature decided to play a trick on us and bring the strong wind in from the east. Don't get me wrong. I appreciated the breeze for cooling, but it really slowed us down. As a result of my miscalulation and...

May 11, 2011 - Superman, Popeye and Hermann

We have decided that it is always storming in Missouri! We drove through northern Missouri in 2009 and cut short a visit to Mark Twain's birthplace and museum in Hannibal because of predicted storms. Those storms did produce deadly tornadoes that afternoon in the community where we'd eaten lunch. On our way home that same year, we dodged horrible thunderstorms while trying to visit the state capital in Jefferson City. Fast forward to 2011 and it's the same story. But I'm way ahead of myself! We left Clarksville yesterday morning headed to...

Sep 2, 2010 - Missouri wine country

9/2/10 On Thursday we took a trip to the wine region of Missouri. It is located on the Missouri River about 70 miles west of St. Louis. Of course we came home with almost a case of wine. With the case of wine we bought in Washington and Oregon and this case we may have to have another wine party when we get home. We ate at the Casino when we got back in a restaurant called Prime. As its name implies it specializes in Prime Rib, so that’s what we ordered. As it was a Thursday night the restaurant was not very busy. The waiter said it was...

Sep 30, 2009 - Hermann, Missouri & Stone Hill Winery

SUNDAY, September 27 -- Said our good-byes and departed. Had lunch at a Cracker Barrel, bought some pumpkin butter and took two slices of Double Fudge Coca Cola cake with us for tonight. Decided to stop early at the Red Barn Rendezvous Campground. MONDAY, September 28 -- Stopped along the way at a Flying J for gas and propane - Tom bought a new truckers GPS as Lola went into a coma. Seven good years from her, but it's time for a replacement. Continued on to Hermann, Missouri where we set up camp at the Hermann City Park RV Campground. Right...

Sep 25, 2009 - We Made it! We're Gone!!

WOW!! It’s really happened, and the thought of always finding our house ten feet behind us hasn’t hit us yet. Ya’ know, when on vacation, we’d always think about “back home.” Well, our “perpetual vacation” is slowly evolving into a new lifestyle. And our “back home” is becoming a concept rather than a physical setting. Back home is becoming where we used to live and where our friends are. And so we begin our venture with connections to the German culture. After leaving our former house in Olathe, we did the smart thing—drive only 35 miles...

Aug 1, 2007 - A Camp Host at the Hermann RV Park?

Paul here. We left Truman and headed to Hermann to host at the city park. Up until now, they have never had a host here. It's not such a hard job. Besides taking care of the campground, I mow some grass in the park (when it grows). I plan to paint the posts at each site. We are present to answer questions and help the campers find their sites. Camping here is on the honor system so we don't handle any money. Fees are deposited in a box at the bath house in the park. We have met a lot of nice people here and have had a chance to spend...

Mar 21, 2007 - Hermann, Lost Valley and Dr visits

After an uneventful trip we arrived in mid-Missouri and Lost Valley Lake Resort, where we would stay for a few days. We got to spend some time with the kids and grandkids. Ron found a nice apartment, so we helped him move. He is happy, Paula is happy, everyone is happy! We both had Dr appointments at the VA Clinic in Mexico. These are just our routine check-ups and everything seems to be OK. Yeh! Where do we go next? Come along and see.....
