Four States and orange cones Thursday, September 8th: Pittsburgh, PA to St. Louis West KOA in Eureka, MO Weather: Cloudy with scattered showers and downpours Route: Pittsburgh to St. Louis via I-70 Today we drove from Pennsylvania, through Ohio and Indiana to Missouri. We had done this drive on previous trips west and knew it would be a long day of highway driving. Overall it was not a bad day: - It was not raining when we needed to stop for gas and a stretch. - The worst low-visibility downpour passed through during the hour we were...

Dec 29, 2015 - floating away

Due to the mild December weather, we were pretty much packed up and ready to go before Christmas. We could have left on the 26th with a focused effort on taking down all the holiday decorations. But as we looked ahead at the route on the radar map, all we could see is stormy weather the entire way. Carlsbad Caverns, our first destination was closed due to snow. Las Cruces, N.M., where we plan to spend at least a week had eight inches, something that hardly ever happens. So we put the departure on hold and went to the movies. When we came...

Wed 9/19: 7:30 AM BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.............woke up to about 38 degrees, just outside St Louis. Should warm up to the high of 70. LOVE IT :) Hope to hit the arch today after letting Pando enjoy the fun of Purina Farms! 10AM We made it easily to Purina Farms. Such a pretty place with tons of animals for the kids. Pando barked at the cows, ran from the horses and chased the chickens. He was interested in the ducks but they moved as far from him as possible lol. They had a cow milking demonstration, then a dog agility show. That was...

Oct 14, 2009 - A Little West of St. Louis

Today, we decided we'd push on through St. Louis and stay on the west side at the KOA. We had an uneventful day until we approached St. Louis...you know those lighted construction signs you can barely read as you fly past....well, we could read this one; it said: "Martin Luther King Bridge Closed". Joe looked at me and asked which bridge we crossed. I looked back at him with this bewildered look like...."the big one over the Mississippi River...." I don't know their names; however, I got busy and looked at the map but there wasn't enough...

Nov 3, 2007 - To Benson - Day 1

Saturday, November 3, 2007 We left Troy this morning early and drove across Michigan, the nw corner of Indiana, down through Illinois, crossed the Big Muddy at St Louis with a great view of the Arch lit up at night. We had hoped to arrive early enough to visit with Norma & Wayne, but it was after 8PM and we'd been driving for 12 hours so we found a motel in Eureka, MO and crashed for the night.
