Jun 10, 2019 - on to Yellowstone National Park

Breakfast at the hotel loaded up the car checked out of hotel a stop for gas at 2.80 a gallon and off to the north entrance of Yellowstone National Park has been many years since my last visit to the park (1976) lol. A stop at Albright Visitor Center got a map and a couple magnets to add to my growing collection, then walked around the Mammoth Hot Springs was on the cool side was 48 degrees this morning and a overcast sky. The drive into the park was nice and just a few cars until I reached the west entrance at Madison then lots of cars,...

Sep 19, 2016 - The Grand Tetons, kinda

The Grand Tetons – this is one place I wanted to go, it didn’t work for us to see them when in Yellowstone, so I talked Steve into going to Victor ID and ‘sneaking in the back way’ – from the less populated side. I found a well-reviewed, if pricey, rv park and we were given their last spot. The view from the windshield was stunning, there was lots of grass so Allie was able to play Frisbee (who knew she LOVES Frisbee) and we spent a relaxing evening and day there. Unfortunately, for the first time in 6 weeks we were not able to ride and do...

Sep 12, 2016 - Yellowstone - Part 3 - On to the Tetons

We thought we were going to spend the day in Cody, WY. A check of the weather forecast this morning had us packing up & leaving a day early to get across Yellowstone before the snow had a chance to accumulate & the roads to freeze overnight. The valley was clear of smoke this morning but it was raining. The clouds were low on the mountains & we could see a dusting of snow fairly low. The weather forecast was for frozen mix in the valley this afternoon turning to snow showers tonite & Yellowstone was snow showers today, tonite, tomorrow,...

Jul 24, 2016 - National Elk Refuge

This refuge, managed by the US Fish and Wildlife Service, is right outside of Jackson and is the winter home for about 7,500 elk that live high in the Tetons and Yellowstone during the summer. While we did not see any elk, we did see several antelope and mule deer feeding in the refuge. On the way to the refuge, we were lucky enough to see a young black bear running through a field not far from Jackson. He probably gave some of the bike riders on the nearby trail a start!

Jul 22, 2016 - Teton Valley RV Park

Left Henry's Lake at 7:30 heading into the park and toward the south gate. Wish people would learn how to drive. Stay off the centre line and use the pull-offs if you are going slower than everyone else! The trip down was picturesque and uneventful. Smoke from the forest fire south of Hoback was quite visible obscuring the view. From Jackson Hole, Wyoming we crossed the Teton pass, elevation 8431 ft with 10% grades ascending and descending. We are looking at a different route back east. Staying at the park for a couple days then heading to...

Jul 20, 2016 - National Bighorn Sheep Center

We drove to Dubois, WY to visit the Bighorn Sheep Interpretive Center. Their mission is to educate the public on these magnificent animals and to encourage their protection. The Center had several dioramas with many sheep and several other big game. As we turned away from Yellowstone, we drove through a couple of national forests including Shoshone where a forest fire was smoldering – lots of smoke in some sections of the highway. As we drove toward Dubois, the scenery changed into more farmland (growing hay) with occasional high buttes....

Jul 15, 2016 - Yellowstone National Park

On another day, we drove past the Tetons into Yellowstone National Park. We had been here about 3 times in the past 30 years, but it’s still fascinating. We were able to drive some of the roads we had not been on before. Because of the heat, we did not see the large number of animals you sometimes see, but we did see some buffalo and an elk up close.

Jul 13, 2016 - Grand Tetons National Park

We drove north from Rock Springs to Jackson, WY to visit both the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone NP. Because there are few (and very costly) campgrounds near Jackson, we stayed on the west side of the mountains in Victor, ID. This meant that we had to go over Teton Pass (8,400’) with 20 mph curves and 10% grades. The bus handled it beautifully and Bruce was once again thankful for the 2-stage engine brake. The town of Jackson is busy and quirky with tons of restaurants and shops and impossible parking. The town square is cornered by huge...

Rocky Mountain Trip

Jun 17, 2014 - June Snow

Being a fulltime RVer requires one to be flexible, resilient, ready to accept change. We have had to remind ourselves of that a couple of times these last couple of days. On Sunday we headed for Idaho Falls with a stop at Craters of the Moon National Monument and Preserve. It was an interesting stop as we learned all about volcanoes, the different types of lava, and how landscapes can change in the blink of an eye when Mother Natures decides it is time to redecorate. I found it nearly impossible to get any decent pictures of this park due...

Sep 1, 2013 - Victor, Idaho

We spent five lazy days in Victor, Idaho which is located in the Teton Valley which has an average elevation of 6,200 feet. It is a short 25 mile drive up and over Teton Pass (8,300 feet) to Jackson, Wyoming. One day we drove north to the town of Driggs and turned east into the mountains to explore the road to the Ski Basin. We took the Lift to the top of the mountain and were rewarded with breathtaking views in all directions. The view to the East included the West side of the Tetons. We went over the pass to Jackson Hole on two different...

Aug 29, 2013 - Victor, Idaho Jackson, WY ( Grand Tetons )

Victor Idaho is located about twenty miles west of Jackson, Wyoming on the west side of Grand Teton National Park. Victor at 6100 foot elevation is a beautiful mountain community of around 1700 people. Our first day we drove up to Grand Targhee Resort for lunch and rode the Ski lift from 8000 foot altitude to 10000 feet. The lift is a little over a mile long, and was an incredible ride. The views of the western slopes of the Tetons were awesome from the top and was certainly the highlight of the day, if you don't count the great Ice Cream...
