Malad Gorge is a 250-foot-deep canyon formed by the Malad River, downstream from the 60-foot “Devil's Wash Bowl” waterfall. The gorge is eroded through basalt columns and basalt pillows or pillow lava which is attributed to the extrusion of lava under water. The columns are seen at the top 2/3 or so of the canyon, while the pillow lava is near the bottom. In some areas "sinks" are visible.
