We highly recommend Henry's Lake State Park, Idaho when traveling near this area. Only 16 miles from West Yellowstone, Montana; a few miles to Island Park, Idaho and Last Chance, Idaho; lots of water for fishing - both still and moving waters; and, many hiking, birding, and historical walks nearby. Fishing was exceptional at Henry's Lake so we did not try anywhere else. Why? The average cutthroat was 18-20 inches and catching was consistent. Several days of fishing and sightseeing. Fishing has been quite fine, so fine that we are staying longer just to enjoy catching those big guys n gals. When we need supplies we take the short drive to West Yellowstone, Montana. There are several fishing shops and on our first visit we went to Bud Lilly's and Blue Ribbon Fly Shop. Bud's does not carry fly tying material, however Blue has everything and recommend a visit here. Also, dining at Bullwinkles is a treat. Try the roasted pears and chicken salad. Double yum. May 15, 2012 - Day Trip: Last Chance, ID

We get through the night with the electricity off for four hours. It is not our best night’s sleep but we have no problems. I hope West Yellowstone enjoys their fiber optics. We meet our guide, Mike, at the Trout Shop. He is a wealth of information. In the winter, he is a guide in Yellowstone. We travel south on Route 20. At Targhee Pass (7,072 feet), we again cross the continental divide. We are in Idaho. If I am reading the map correctly, the divide forms the border of Idaho and Montana. It is beautiful country.
