Jul 25, 2010 - Bozeman, MT to Island Park, ID

Well, this was a different morning for us. We have less than 2 hrs to drive to Island Park, ID so I fixed a big breakfast. I have been very puzzled by cooking utensils disappearing from my "huge" kitchen, so I pulled my 2 kitchen drawers out & Ron checked the area below for missing "things". With a flashlight, he was able to locate large & small knifes (1 each), 2 spatulas & several misc. objects that had been missing for some time! All of our bad roads seem to have caused them to jump around enough that they went over the edge of the...

Jul 17, 2010 - Our Last Day in Red Rock

Hitch itch has set in and we are anxious to move on to new things. We have loved staying at Red Rock these past five weeks. It has gone by fast. It's been great meeting up with Gordon and Juanita again and being able to get to know them better. We have also enjoyed meeting new friends and hope to stay in touch with them too. -- We said our goodbyes to everyone since we plan on being up early and on the road through Yellowstone before the tourists are out in force. -- Today was another warm one with higher humidity. In the past couple of...

Jul 16, 2010 - Last Supper

Sounds like a religious experience and in a way, I guess it was. We went out to a last dinner with Gordon and Juanita tonight, repeating the excellent prime rib dinner we had a few weeks ago at the Island Park Lodge. Juanita had a steak, I wanted a burger and the guys had prime rib. It will be our last get together with these two good folks before we leave on Sunday. We have enjoyed spending time and having fun with them. There is never a lack of laughter when we get together. -- We enjoyed a laid back day doing what we love to do best -...

Jul 15, 2010 - A New View

Today was moving day. There is a large group of big rigs coming in over the next couple of days that made reservations here at Red Rock over a year ago. Consequently, we must move from the "condo area" to a spot down along the fence where we will only have water and electric hookups. So, I took a last shower in the rig before John dumped our tanks. -- But the view from the new spot is spectacular. We have a 180 degree view of the meadow and mountains in back of Henry's Lake. We can watch Henry, the resident hawk, flying over the meadow...

Jul 15, 2010 - The longest Main Street in the USA & web cam too

http://www.redrockrvpark.com/index2.html?rrwifi.html&rrmain Seeing this web cam says it all. There are no words to describe this work of nature. Almost to Yellowstone - at last! Our neighbor reported 800,000 people were at Yellowstone in June of this year and July they expect over one and one half million people which will include us.

Jul 14, 2010 - A Perfect Yellowstone Evening

It is now after midnight and I am still too wound up to go to bed. We just returned from a trip into Yellowstone this evening with Gordon and Juanita. It will be our last trip into the park until Sunday when we leave Red Rock. We have been wanting to do an evening trip in the hopes of seeing more critters and asked to tag along when Gordon said they were going tonight. -- We packed a picnic dinner and I made some cookies and Juanita made deviled eggs. We left around 5:30 and by the time we stopped for gas, etc., we were in the park around...

Jul 13, 2010 - Lotsa Moos

I hate it when I don't get to do my journal posting every day, because then I have to try and think back and figure out what the heck we have been doing for the past several days. One downside with this lifestyle, if you could call it a downside, is that I frequently do not know what day it is. Well, I will start from my last post, which was on Friday... I think. -- Saturday, we thought about going to a craft fair down the road, but John wasn't feeling perky and in fact, slept a lot while I read and worked on a puzzle. That is unusual for...

Jul 11, 2010 - Road to Yellowstone

We left the Glacier Park area heading south through rural Montana to Yellowstone National Park. Most of the time during our trip we did not make reservations except a couple of days ahead. Well, this time that was a mistake. I called over a dozen RV parks around West Yellowstone several days ahead and could not get anything. I finally found a park that was about 35 miles away from Yellowstone in Island Park, Idaho. The scenery traveling through Montana has been spectacular and we haven't even made it to Yellowstone. We particularly enjoyed...

Jul 10, 2010 - The Hills Are Alive . . .

There have been problems with the internet connection here at the park over the last several days and I have been unable to post not only my pictures, but my daily journal. Hopefully, I will be able to catch up and if not, I will post pictures at some point down the road. We have heard that a worker dug up the power line or that lightning hit the transformer or someone was just hogging the whole system. Tonight it seems to be working better, so I will type fast. -- We have been staying close to home in our exploring since Yellowstone is...

Jul 8, 2010 - We Climb a Mountain

This morning, it was nice and clear so John got me up early at the crack o' 7:00 so that we could drive to the top of Sawtell Peak. Gordon's weather station indicated a low last night of 37 - almost a heat wave. We packed a picnic and headed out the door. -- We had heard that the view from the top of Sawtell Peak was spectacular but with the recent pine pollen, unless it is a clear day, the view is ruined by the haze. But this morning promised to be clear and we were excited to climb the mountain. -- We have been seeing the observation...

Jul 7, 2010 - Two Moose and Three Wild Hogs

Well, this morning, John said it was colder than yesterday with a low on our 99 cent temp gauge registering at 32 degrees. This is still July, isn't it? We keep hearing that the rest of the country is sweltering and we can't help but thinking that we are awfully lucky to be at Red Rock RV Park right now. I would much rather be pulling on my sweatshirt this morning instead of turning on the AC. -- We had another wonderful day of exploring. We packed a picnic and headed out towards West Yellowstone, but instead of turning towards the park, we...

Jul 7, 2010 - Doppler Radar Station, Idaho

About 5:00 pm, all five of us loaded into Danny's truck and headed south on Hwy. 20 to a dirt road. That 11-mile, gravel road led up a 9,779-ft. mountain with a Doppler Radar Station at the top. We just could see the building from the Red Rock RV Park and John and Danny were determined to see it up close. It took an hour to travel up the road, as it was steep and winding. At the top, John and Danny investigated the building as best one can, as the public cannot enter it. There was some snow around, and Sandi couldn't resist making a...
