Sep 21, 2019 - Caldwell/Boise

The drive from Burns to Caldwell started out reprising the high desert look of the trip to Burns. But things changed as we moved farther east and the landscape became hilly with some interesting rock features. We would learn more about those rocks later. We arrived at the Ambassador RV Resort between 3 and 4 in the afternoon. It is a well-equipped park with an ordinary but very functional layout. We had a 50-amp, full-hookup site with wide open sky for satellite. The WIFI is the best we have found. The only downside is that the park is...

Aug 12, 2019 - Caldwell ID

Saturday morning about 8:30 the windshield crew showed up and commenced to tackling the project. They were very good at their task and in about 3 hours the old one was removed and a new, shiny, crack and chip-free one installed in it’s place; till we tangle with the next wayward stone. And all for free – not even a deductible – thanks to being registered and insured in Florida. Our Sunday started about 10:00 with a trip to Nampa, about 15 minutes east toward Boise, with the goal of breakfast at the Tower Grill at the airport; but we got a...

Aug 9, 2019 - Caldwell ID

Monday was a painless 3 hour drive west from Twin Falls on I-84 through the sagebrush covered plains of Southern Idaho, followed by some Cracker Barrel for a late lunch and that was it...nothing more exciting to report. We were saving the excitement for Tuesday and beyond. Sort of. Our Tuesday was pretty much spent within the city limits of Boise, which is about 20 miles east of our current home in Caldwell. The day started with a 90 minute trolley tour of Boise, mostly focusing on the local history, with some architecture details thrown in...

Nov 18, 2018 - Caldwell Idaho

It was a great day driving today, all new territory and very scenic as we have never driven east on this hwy before. Bonus was we only had one driver that came close to sideswiping us!! Colder here -5, than it was supposed to be and that is grounds to leave this state that we just arrived in! Good thing Marion was watching the TV news when we discovered the temps are dropping and they will probably have some Thanksgiving snow. That means Mondays(tomorrows) drive will be a marathon for us adding another 2 plus hours of driving taking us into...

Oct 2, 2018 - Idaho - the potato state

Welcome to October - where the heck did the first 9 months of 2018 go??? Whew! We left Kennewick yesterday (Monday) and headed southeast on I-84. With fall bringing a nip to the air here in the Pacific Northwest, we knew we needed to get over the Cascade Mountains before the snow starts falling. Don't want to be dragging our home over a mountain if we don't have to. We had about a 5 1/2 hour drive from Kennewick to Caldwell Idaho and it took us over some fairly long steep climbs and descents. We stopped at a rest area in Deadman's Pass to...

Jul 21, 2017 - Caldwell ID

We followed US 20 and the meandering Malheur River to Caldwell ID through beautiful mountains and small towns. Did you know that US 20 is a coast to coast route spanning 3,365 miles and is the longest road in the US? The highway's eastern terminus is in Boston MA, at Kenmore Square, where it meets State Road 2. Its western terminus is in Newport OR, at an intersection with US 101, within a mile of the Pacific Ocean. We rode on it to Caldwell and Ambassador RV Park. Ambassador RV Park hasn't changed. Still large with long level pull thrus....

The Summer of 2017

Jul 22, 2016 - Eastward Oregon - On Our Marq

Finally, our first day Eastbound! Our original goal was Boise, but with a late start out of Bend, after one more check from the RV tech, we decided to land in Caldwell, Idaho, @293 mi. The Caldwell Elk Lodge has 4 RV sites with 30 amp and water. They are only 1 exit away from a Flying J as well. We took the Central Oregon Hwy US-20. We crossed Stinking Water Creek and kept the windows closed. We liked US-20, it was a bit curvy but great views and small towns. We went through Vale, Oregon and the town sign said Home of Trail Murals. They...

Apr 12, 2016 - Caldwell, ID

Off we go on I-84 to Caldwell, Idaho where we stayed a new park to us, Canyon Springs RV Resort. Our travel club is hoping to have an international rally there in 2018 so thought we would 'check it out". The people managing the park were extremely friendly and showed us all around. This park just opened 8 months ago so they were still busy working on setting it up. Not a bad park, but the streets are a little narrow for our size rig. We had a good stay here.

Sep 22, 2014 - Beauty in Eastern Oregon?

We left Sisters, Oregon, early on Sunday and beat a lot of the traffic for a few hours as we headed east on Highway 20. After about 10:00 am, there was a steady stream of trucks and cars heading the opposite way. Where the heck is everyone going? -- There is not much between Bend, Oregon, and Burns, Oregon. It was an uneventful trip of around 150 miles. We stayed Sunday night at the Burns RV Park. It is a small but pretty little place with lots of trees and grass. The bathrooms and showers were old but clean. The thing that surprised us...

Pretty Damn Nice!

Sep 13, 2014 - Caldwell, ID

After spending one night in Umatilla, we drove to Caldwell, ID where we stayed at Ambassador RV Park, another favorite. We chose to spend a couple of nights here to catch up from the hectic schedule of getting ready to go. A lot of rigs heading south and to the Oregon Coast. We watched skydivers and sat and relaxed. They are harvesting potatoes all throughout Idaho and talk about allergies. The dust is unbelievably bad.
