Oct 31, 2012 - OH! Sandy

As daylight rose over Long Island the electric was still off and phones did not work. Dad and Herta had moved to slightly higher ground at Herta’s grand daughter’s house a mile away. No one knew or could watch TV to see the devastation down the street. When the water receded enough to go to home there was about 8 feet of it in the bottom part of their split level. The water almost made it to the top floor and everything that had been put up downstairs was floating in a mix of salt water and heating oil. Dad and Herta are staying with a...

Oct 30, 2012 - Of Hurricanes and Best Buys

As many of you know much of our families and friends live in the path that Sandy took or is taking currently. My father and stepmother left their very low lying Freeport NY home to take refuge in Herta's granddaughter's house a mile away but still near the water. I have not had contact with them since yesterday and the power is still off. I do expect they are OK. My brother Glenn is stuck in Oregon and his home 50 feet from a river in Maryland is in question I would gather. Shirley's family in PA and NY have done OK and the storm is now...

Oct 29, 2012 - Church Lady

Yesterday was a first for us as we went to two Church services. Elaine took Shirley and me to their UMC Church in Alpharetta GA. John had promised his 14 year old grandson that he would take him to the car show we went to Saturday. He had to leave very early to beat the traffic. The service and pastor were excellent and we enjoyed our hour very much. We bade fare well to Elaine as she took us to our stored camper and headed to Decatur to surprise our North Decatur UMC friends by coming to the 11 AM service and we did surprise them! It was...

May 30, 2012 - Clean bill of health

After a week of convalescing, I went to the doctor yesterday and he said resume your travels! So this morning we are off to Savannah after breaking down the camper and putting it back on the Big Honkin' Dually. One of our North Decatur Church friends came to Fayetteville to meet us for lunch. It was nice seeing Jinna Clark. Shirley and Ginna got caught up while I went off to the doctor. We came back and took John and Darci to dinner at O'Charley's to end our stay at their home. We thank them for their great hospitality and look forward to...

May 29, 2012 - Buy me some peanuts and cracker jack

We went to the Braves game on a beautiful Memorial Day at the ballpark. Our friends Ann and Bobby secured two tickets next to their season seats for four in a row. Excellent outfield views on the first row! The Bravos lost their 8th game in a row but it is always fun to be at the ballpark. I can't believe how reasonably priced the Braves games are. Our seats cost $4.50 a piece! We payed $26-$36 to see the same Braves play in spring training this year. It was nice catching up with this young couple. Shirley met Ann when she attended our...

May 28, 2012 - The ultimate sacrifice

Today is Memorial Day please remember it is not Veterans Day. Today is a day to honor our soldiers of all wars who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. We are going to the Braves games today and hope to be there early to participate in the Memorial Day activities. Darci and I went a few years ago and it was excellent as they take time with pageantry to honor those past. If you have ever served in any of the armed forces I thank you for your sacrifice but today we honor your fallen brothers and sisters. Not much going on...

May 27, 2012 - Celebrate good times...come on!

A day for celebration! We both enjoyed our 39th anniversary here at our daughter Darci's house. We received a lot of facebook and email wishes and cards also. Shirley took me to breakfast then we did a bit of shopping. After chicken wings on the grill, John, Darci and Malone surprised us with a cake after dinner. Then we all watched the movie Joyful Noise which Shirley bought for a couple of bucks. Great movie if you ever get the chance. Good story line and outstanding music. We saw this while we were in Arizona when it was in the theatre...

May 26, 2012 - Mr. Benny, Mr. Benny!

Remember Rochester calling Jack Benny? Then you will also recall Jack stopped counting his birthdays at 39. Well today is our 39th wedding anniversary and we will continue to count. As is today, it was a Saturday in Geneseo NY with all our college friends, families and out of town guests gathered at the United Methodist Church. That day remains one of the three best days of my life. As you have read over the past year plus of blogging the other two are the birthdays of our children. Darci, John, Shirley and I packed a picnic lunch and had a...

May 25, 2012 - Shirley's Day

Distaff side: After dismantling the "sick bay", I drove to Macon, GA to see some sights. Stopped by the Medical Center of Central Georgia and had lunch and camaraderie with 2 fellow cytotechnologists, Barbara & Yolanda. Then I drove over to St. Joseph's Catholic Church, a Gothic Revival Structure constructed in 1889 to 1903. Very beautiful church. My third stop was the Tubman African American Museum. The museum is named for Harriet Tubman a runaway slave from Maryland who helped over 300 slaves escape via the Underground Railroad and she...

May 24, 2012 - On the mend

I am doing much better and feel just about 100%. Yesterday Shirley and I went to downtown Griffin for lunch and a walking tour of the old historic area. As many times as we've been here we have never done that. After a nice lunch we spied the visitor's center which housed a museum and art gallery. We learned that Doc Holliday was born and raised in Griffin Ga. We last met Doc in Tucson at the OK Coral shoot out. We continued our journey and learned that many films have had scenes done here. Most notable was Driving Miss Daisy. We then drove...

May 23, 2012 - It's outa here!

Yes K Stone 2 is gone! May I take a pause to say WHEW. Man oh man a chevitz do they cause pain or what? Anyway, this was not as bad as our Tuscon adventure but bad enough. As I waited for the procedure the sleepy time doctor came to see me and after he was done I told him I was in great pain and needed something. He said he had just the thing and he would tell the nurse. It took 35 friggin' minutes for the nurse to come with the medicine. I was polite but to the point and said this was unacceptable as a consumer to wait this long for...

May 22, 2012 - Sick Bay under a Spreading Chestnut Tree

Off to Georgia Urology in Fayetteville for follow-up ER visit. DX: Intervention required to remove left kidney stone. While patient was lounging in the "sick bay" camping area I went to Airport Road Park. The park has a rubber track area made from 7000 recycled tires. Very nice! Tomorrow is the day for kidney stone removal @ Piedmont Fayette Hospital. Stay tuned!! Enjoy the pics.
