Mar 16, 2019 - Wildwood RV

The day after our last work day at the Center for Great Apes we departed the area and traveled the 160 miles north up I-75 to Wildwood. We wanted to stop by here for a couple days to see our friends, the Warwells, as it may be quite sometime before we meet again. However, there wasn't room at our usual park the Thousand Trails Three Flags which is just down the street. A quick search and phone call and we are staying here. A very nice park, used to be a KOA but acquired privately two years ago and greatly improved. We enjoyed the western...

Jan 3, 2019 - Three Flags Resort, Wildwood, FL

Today’s drive was much shorter and more relaxed than yesterday’s, 152 miles straight down I-75 about 3 hours. We fueled up the coach when we left the freeway, then went to the RV Park. We noted that when we landed at the park, it was 82 degrees outside. WOOHOO ! As we drove south we noted the temps rising and of course the humidity, too. NOTE: We refuel the coach when we arrive at our destination, usually it’s not busy in the afternoon when we arrive. And, Therre are other things on our mind in the mornings, like hitting the road. It takes...

Nov 16, 2018 - Wildwood, FL - Three Flags RV Resort

After departing the Briarcliffe at Myrtle Beach we drove to a Thousand Trails park, The Oaks at Point South in Yemasee, SC for a short two night stay, 11/01/18 thru 11/03/18. From there we drove about three hundred miles south to an RPI park; Southern Trails in Unadilla, GA, 11/03/18 thru 11/05/18. These short two day stops were designed to ease up on the driving load while our health was not at optimum and it definitely helped. On 11/05/18 we arrived at our originally planned destination at the Thousand Trails Park, Three Flags RV Resort...

Mar 30, 2018 - Winter of 2018 thru 2019 in Florida

11/17/18 – 2/27/19 We’re still here at the Three Flags RV Resort in Wildwood, FL. Due to Ralph’s next doctor’s appointment we will definitely continue our stay at least to Feb 27th. After going through further tests, a cat scan and then a needle biopsy in his lung, it was January 28th before we found out that Ralph has what is called organized pneumonia and not lung cancer. It was a great relief after 3 months of worry. The doctor said he was good to go but wanted a follow up next November. Our stay here has been focused on medical issues...

When we departed NS Mayport we got onto I-10 heading west toward I-75 and then south to Wildwood. It was an easy 203 mile drive... This is a Thousand Trails system park which we haven’t been to before. We’ve heard many good things about the area. It’s next to “The Villages” retirement community. And we’ll be here for two weeks, so we’ll get out and do a little exploring... One of Rebecca’s cousins lives in one of the villages, we hope to visit him. We also have friends who have moved to the villages, we’ll look them up and get...

Dec 9, 2017 - Wildwood, FL

We arrived at the Thousand Trails - Three Flags RV Resort in Wildwood, FL on November 25, 2017 for a two week stay. This is a routine stop for us located right at the western edge of The Villages community. We usually take advantage of the nightly free outdoor entertainment at the Brownwood section of The Villages but this year we hit a spell of unusually cold weather and Ralph’s gout attacks limited our mobility. There were very few sites available when we arrived and we ended up selecting a site that we could not get satellite TV...

Jan 4, 2017 - Wildwood

The overnight rain clears out and we're getting ready to move. Marley has had us up since 4AM when the thunder started. It's a pretty easy ride over to I-10 and then down US-301 to I-75. All in all, about 140 miles in 3 hours, riding through small towns and the horse farms around Ocala. As we're checking in, the FedEx delivery man comes in with our wiper motor, so things are going well. A couple of hours of scraping knuckles and the motor is replace and the wipers are working again. We're right down the road from the Villages with all their...

Jun 4, 2016 - Wildwood, FL

We are at the KOA in Wildwood. It is hot and humid, but our central air is working great. The generator and central air even worked on the way here, so it will be 3 nights here and head for Jacksonville. We are watching the weather because a tropical storm is heading our way. They are not sure where it is will hit land and the better chance is where we were planning on going next. Out running it doesn't seem to be an option. We have done our grocery shopping and other necessities to restock the motorhome. The pool is cool, so we will ride...

4/12/15 thru 4/24/16 Wildwood, FL Our next 12 days will be spent here at Three Flags Thousand Trails resort in Wildwood, FL. Since the high use season is now over we have plenty of choices of sites available. The city of Wildwood has a population of about 3800 and due to its central location it is often referred to as “The Crossroads of Florida”. Wildwood is about three miles east of the intersection of the Florida Turnpike and I-75 and about three miles west of the southern entrances of The Villages. There’s a Russell Stover Candy outlet...

Mar 1, 2016 - Airboat

One of the famous attractions in the Everglades is an airboat ride. Unfortunately, the airboats are not environmentally friendly. The biggest concern is that the slow-moving manatees are frequently injured by fast-moving airboats. Although the manatee is no longer an endangered species, thanks in part to the Endangered Species Act, they are still a "threatened" species. That's why I went hiking and canoeing while I was in Everglades National Park rather that book an airboat ride. I've now driven north of Orlando. The lakes are getting...

Feb 26, 2016 - Wildwood, FL

Fri, 26 Feb: A fairly easy day... Serendipity... Noun meaning: luck that takes the form of finding valuable or pleasant things that are not looked for. That's the best way to describe why we're parked in a full hook-up 30 ampere site in a Thousand Trails park near Wildwood. Last evening, when we were mapping today's route, we were planning to overnite at the Wal*Mart near The Villages. The reviews indicated that it was not the best Wally parking-wise, so we explored alternatives. We found this Three Flags park that claimed to be a Passport...

Dec 23, 2015 - Wildwood, FL 2015

12/8/2015 thru 12/23/2015 Wildwood, FL As usual our Wildwood, FL visit has us back at the Three Flags Thousand Trails Resort. This is a relatively small Thousand Trails resort with about 185 sites. Most of the sites are large, with easy access and good utilities. The front of the park is all full hookups with 30 amp service and the back section is mostly full hookups with 50 amp service. The only two 50 amp sites available had poor or no access to the south-western sky so satellite TV would be a problem so we chose to occupy a 30 amp site....
