Sep 25, 2018 - off to china

Travel Day September 25/26, 2018 񏓍USA —> CHINA Monday night, my dad and I planned to pull an all-nighter in order to adjust for the time change between the United States and China. We had to wake up at 4:15am the next day but I didn’t go to bed until 4:00am, oops. That morning I was extremely tired and didn’t want to move due to my 15-minutes of sleep. I slowly got dressed and walked downstairs to have coffee ice cream for breakfast, lol. When my mom dropped us off at the airport at 5am, it was the last time I am going to see her in over a...

Jul 18, 2017 - Palm Beach

We leave Titusville and head back over to Merritt Island but to a different location to the Space centre, to drive the Black Point Wildlife Drive. This is a 7 mile self drive through salt and freshwater marshes with lookout points for bird and animal life. We see lots of birds and manage to spot two alligators too. It's a lovely sunny morning and so nice to see some nature and not another highway! Unfortunately, the day goes downhill from there. Our GPS, which we have nicknamed Hilda, is directing us to our next Hotel in West Palm Beach....

Feb 29, 2016 - West Palm Beach, FL.

We know that Palm Beach sounds like Florida and water. The truth is we are in West Palm Beach, which is at least 20 miles from water. We are at the Lion Country Safari KOA campground, which seems to be right in the middle of equestrian country. They are having Polo Matches near here. The other part is the campground is associated with Lion Country Safari, which is right next door. When we checked in they asked if we wanted to do the safari drive. We said no until they offered a package that saved us close to $100 on camp fees and two...

Feb 23, 2016 - Treasure Coast

I've frequently visited the eastern shore of Florida my entire life. Way back in the 1950s my grandmother became one of the first "snowbirds". She lived in Massachusetts in the summer and in Florida in the winter. Soon after, my father's entire family moved to Florida: his mom, his brother, his sister, their spouses and children. The area around Palm Beach refers to itself as the “Treasure Coast”. The inhabited land is separated into long thin strips by a series of parallel transportation systems. Along the coast is Route A1A. Next is the...

Apr 3, 2014 - Really moving on!

We finally left No Name Harbor a day later than planned and still did not have a very enjoyable trip northward. By the time we neared Fort Lauderdale, the wind and waves had built more than when we started out…and we still had 5 hours to go to get to West Palm Beach and the Lake Worth anchorage. We decided it just wasn’t worth the exhaustion and pounding from the waves, so we ducked in the ship channel at Ft. Lauderdale and headed north in the ICW. The trip from there on was just a matter of keeping an eye on the smaller pleasure craft that...

Nov 11, 2013 - To West Palm Beach, FL

Finally, we both slept really well. We were underway by 0730. We made it under all fixed bridges without a problem. Our timing on bascule bridges was perfect. The only problem we had was at red mark “2” at Jupiter Inlet where we ran aground in the inlet because the current swept us down on the mark. We got to Soverel Harbor by 1400 and tied up in a little slip that was the pits to get into. Fred did a great job of turning the boat around in a small basin and put us in the slip beautifully. We had wonderful help from a lady (Diane) off the...

May 15, 2012 - The "Keys" to Happiness

Our two weeks at Naval Air Station Key West and the Florida Keys was nothing short of fabulous! We used the campground at Sigsbee (the Naval Air Station is a series of small bases) as our home while we visited various areas along the 125 miles of keys. The Florida Key begin around Key Largo and the road ends in Key West although the Keys go out another 70 miles and end at the Dry Tortugas. When traveling all directions are given by mile marker and the business addresses along Highway 1 start with the mile marker where they are...

Apr 18, 2012 - Prologue

Anchoring tonight between the two extended fingers of Great Sale Cay is almost the ultimate boating experience for us. We’ve anchored out many nights in the Chesapeake Bay in 25 years of boating, but we were always within a few miles of a dock, a town, a marina, or just out in front of someone’s house. Here, the nearest town or marina is somewhere between 50 and 60 miles away. Although there are some isolated thunderstorms approaching from the west, so far, they have passed to the north of us, so all of the stars are out. There is no moon,...

Mar 6, 2011 - visiting the Palm Beach girls

I went up to visit Gette and Rosemary this weekend and it might be my only chance to see them this winter! Rosemary and I went to dinner at Le Fogata mexican restaurant on Friday night while Gette was working. Love that name! On Saturday, Rosemary and I went for a very long walk while Gette got her hair done. The day was very windy so we couldn't go on a 16 mile bike ride, so we ate lunch at Jimmy John's sub shop, visited Ross where I bought a pair of jeans for $12, and went to the mall to Talbot's. Gette & Rose bought pants and tops for...
