Jan 13, 2012 - Weeki Wachee, FL

The Weeki Wachee river is fed by a natural spring that flows at a rate of 170 million gallons a day and maintains a temperature of 72 F. We took a pontoon boat ride down the river lots of wildlife to see: several different pretty fish, a manatee, turtles, a raccoon and a bald eagle in her nest. Thick tropical vegetation lined the banks. In 1947 an ex marine opened a mermaid show in the area above where the spring came in. Mermaids performed choreographed routines under water to music using breathing tubes. We saw two shows one was 'Fish...

Apr 2, 2009 - Some pics from the last day or two

Wow!! Finally we got a connection from the camper!!!! ^_^ So here you are with an update. What a wonderful world we live in!! The ocean is beyond words. And the jury is in with the verdict... I am a pathological shell seeker! *,* We've been out on the beach in front of the campground several times and have come in with shells every time. It's been rainy so we have the umbrella with us just in case. Did you know that an umbrella is a great place to carry shells??? ^_^ Luckily, it didn't start to rain on our way back to the trailer. sigh...

Mar 29, 2009 - On the road again...

Last day for this season. Next year I think we'll leave first!! this is nuts saying "bye" to so many of the "family"! ^_^ Oh well... most of us plan to be back in the same spot next year! We did one last run out to Peck's for Almond Fried Grouper ... the tide was in and with the fairly strong winds blowing toward shore the past two days the water was definitely higher than we've seen it. Ah well... the grouper was as good as ever! I promised to give you Marion's recipe for "Singing" pineapple... (my name) It's pretty simple but there is...

For some reason... P & I get "blamed" for all the work of the Thursday Potlucks.... *,* All we do is have a yard big enough to hold everyone!! Oh... and maybe an additional thing or two sometimes! ha Anyway we were taken by surprise when Barb & Cliff handed us this incredible memory book of the 2009 season!! It's one of those things you can look at over and over and see something new each time. ^_^ REALLY appreciate the friendship we find down here. It's a bit eerie down here now with so many gone! It's hard to take down the bird/squirrel...

Mar 27, 2009 - Trip on two rivers...

Here .. in no particular order .. are some pictures of our pontoon ride up the Rainbow & Withlacoochee Rivers. The Rainbow River is spring fed and clear as can be! The whole river is the color in the pics. The Withlacoochee starts in the "Green Swamp", a 48,000 acre wildlife management areain central Florida and flows north up to Lake Rousseau past us here in Crystal River... and then on to the Gulf! It's water (although very clear) is almost tea colored due to the tannin in the cypress needles that fall every year. The ride we took starts...

While we were at dinner last night it really poured down rain!!! It's really green this morning and looks so fresh... We had a friendship celebration I guess you'd call it last night. Five couple headed out to enjoy each other's company for one of the last times this season... *,* At least all of us have reserved our spots for next year again. All of you reading this really should plan a trip down here just to go to this restaurant! I've had pictures of the place before... the owners are very patriotic and a lot of fun themselves. And, of...
