Apr 19, 2019 - Moving On

Well, we ended up being in Bradenton for 9 days instead of the 6 we planned. Then the car decided it was tired of all this traveling around. We moved to the second campground we wanted to check out. That's when the electrical system in the coach decided to act up again. Finally found someone willing to look at that in a timely manner, but of course, as soon as we got to the shop, the trouble disappeared again. We had beautiful weather in Brandenton/Sarasota. The park was very nice. We did get to say hello to the resident alligator in the...

Winter2018-2019

Jan 12, 2019 - for the birds

Last time we were here, Ken joined the photography club. He learned little about photography, but we enjoyed some of the field trips they sponsored. We went to scenic areas that we would not have found on our own. In this part of Florida, nature is a prime attraction for photographers as well as outdoor enthusiasts. So when my beloved husband invited me to visit a landfill to view wildlife with the photo group, how could I say no? The group met in Melbourne, about a 45 minute drive south of here. Usually I only wake up at 6am to catch a...

Nov 24, 2017 - Thanksgiving

Our first official stop in Florida was to Vero Beach for Thanksgiving with Mac and Kare with Kasey, Dallas, Neville and Raewyn. Michael was also able to Join us for the holiday. It had been a long while since we had all been together so this was a long awaited visit. Mac walked us around the neighborhood, while showing us the different plants, trees and flowers. There is a canal or a kind of lagoon just outside their neighborhood that is stocked with fish, a favorite place for neighborhood kids to try their luck with a pole and bait; catch...

Feb 8, 2015 - Vibrant Vero

On Saturday, four days out of Sanford we hit one of our favorite stops in Florida. Vero Beach has a unique gathering of up scale shops, free public transport and trendy dining places. It is a favorite of the retired community and has captured the boaters with their Municipal Marina. This has been a constant stop each time we come this way and features a hundred moorings in the protected bay on the ocean side of the ICW. After a long day from Titusville, we were glad to hear that there was a mooring waiting for us in the north field. After...

Feb 7, 2015 - Back in the ICW

The trip from the center of Jacksonville back to the ICW can be deceptively long or short depending on the state of the tide on the huge volume of water that courses in the upper St Johns. We got a little of both with 5 Kt bare steerage for some of the way and an exhilarating 10 Kts for the remainder. Made it safely to the place where the ICW crosses this torrent and settled into our normal buoy hopping navigation. By mid-day we had passed thru St Augustine, the magnificent fort and the elegant Bridge of Lions. But their marinas stink and...

Mar 9, 2014 - Cpt. Bob takes us on an Air Boat Ride

We had a great 1.5 hr. air boat ride with Cpt. Bob. We lucked out with perfect weather and excellent viewing of the everglades natural wonders. There was also a bit of a thrill as the captain opened up the horses and we speed through the rushes and through the marsh. A great ride I would highly recommend.

We had a great visit with our good friends Bill & Joanne Hattie. As usual, when we get together there was good food, drink and lots of laughs. Bill and I go to go to a couple of Grapefruit League, training games while the girls played golf and shopped until they dropped. We also experienced an airboat ride and a four day trip to the Keys. A great couple of weeks for sure.

Jan 24, 2014 - Visit to the "Other" Coast

From Vero Beach, FL on the East Coast … Friday, January 24, 2014 It was a beautiful start to a Road Trip day! We made arrangements to visit our friends from “the mountain” in Roanoke today. Luke and Bobbie are spending a week at Vero Beach as they make their way down to the Bahamas for the winter. Poor souls! :-) We stopped in LaBelle for breakfast at Two Peas Café. I think perhaps I have already mentioned this, but this little restaurant opened in August and is run by the granddaughter of the famous Flora and Ella’s Café which closed two...

Dec 18, 2013 - Vero Beach, Florida

Days 287 - 289 of The Big Trip December 16 - On our 60-mile drive south from Merritt Island, we actually stopped at an RV park in Sebastian, just north of Vero Beach. Clark and I had quite a challenge getting the trailer parked. The park is filled with all kinds of posts in bad positions, which made maneuvering difficult. We finally got the trailer parked and got settled. December 17 - The reason for stopped in this area was to see Air Force Friends. This was the co-pilot on one of Clark's major projects as a test pilot. That project took...
