Jun 19, 2015 - WALK ABOUT

Today I shall do some geocaching at Blackwater Creek preserve a few miles away from the state park. The park is a popular spot for native plant enthusiasts , who visit the open palmetto praires to admire vast stands of blooming wiregrass dotted with striking wildflowers. You also got to watch out for cow patties, management of the preserve is the cattle grazing. Cattle grazing benefits native plant communities by controlling invasive species and maintaining vegetation heights preferred by people. Just the right height for walking . I had to...

Jun 18, 2015 - Hillsborough River State Park

I like to make a three day stay at any state park or place that we stay on vacation. One day to get to the park which is less then 200 miles and I get into the park around 2 in the afternoon. This way I can get set up and spend the rest of the day finding out where things are located in the park. The next day I go kayaking on the river and then the next day Geocaching outside the park or maybe on the trails in the park. In the 1930's during the great depression , the civilian conservation corps (CCC) established the area surrounding the...

A lot of area in Florida was used as a area to graze cattle and the drained the water off of the land. Now they understand that all this area was a filtering system to clean water before going back into are drinking system. They now have turned back a lot of the cattle dry land back into a filter system that can clean the water turn the water ways back to the way they were before man messed up the land. We now can walk in preserves that have trun back time to before man came and changed it all. I dont want to turn the whole state into a...
