Apr 23, 2018 - When The Sun Goes Down in Paradise

WHEN THE SUN GOES DOWN IN PARADISE We finally made it back to our “happy place,” the Florida Keys! Dennis has been coming here since he was a young boy growing up in West Palm Beach. When Dennis introduced me to this tropical paradise 10 years ago on our inaugural trip as retired full time RV’ers it is now my favorite place to visit. We usually stay in the middle or lower Keys and wanted to explore the upper Keys this time and when we found out there was an Elks Lodge in Tavernier that purportedly had camping we had to investigate…..this...

East Bound and Down

Feb 24, 2013 - Key Largo, FL - 2013

We moved a whopping 33 miles up the coast to the Tavernier Elks Lodge, Key Largo, FL. We needed to move because most of our stays are taking advantage of weekly rates. We will also be reuniting with our traveling companions, John & Carol and Jimmy Doodles. They have been staying at the military base in Key West. Well this Elks Lodge is not one of the best we have stayed at. As a matter of fact, where we parked our rig left a lot to be desired. It is along the side of the building with two large air conditioner units blasting hot air at us....

Oct 17, 2011 - Trip to Atlantic Bay Resort, Florida Keys

Atlantic Bay Resort Even though we live in Florida, a trip to the Keys is like leaving the state and entering another exotic foreign country. It’s always the same sensation. Traveling in Florida

May 29, 2009 - Tavernier 5/29

Friday, May 29, 2009 Tavenier. Homebase. Rick will be leaving tomorrow and we are moving north also. Thinking about Ft. Lauderdale. Just going to laze around today, clean up the home a bit. It’s been a good stay. THINGS I LEARNED ABOUT THE KEYS AND / OR FROM RICK TROUT *Cold showers every day, and or night too. *Don’t worry about your hair or makeup, you are always in and out of the water, it just doesn’t matter. *Clothes just don’t work. Live in a suit. *If you don’t like the weather, wait 5 minutes. *Never make plans, just do, and do it...

May 21, 2009 - Key Largo, Tavernier 5/21-27

Thurs. May 21 We left Midway campground and the Everglades and on our way to Key Largo. The weather was fine, a little rainy, the roads good. Found a Casino on Hwy 41 and stopped for breakfast and found a way to throw away some spare change. We arrived in the Keys, mile post 92, To Rick’s, ( Trevor’s Dad) home and proceeded to squeeze our Motorhome in his yard. It is very warm here. Temp hangs around 90 plus. Unhooked the car and took off exploring. Rick told us about the wild bird sanctuary in the area, so we went over there and had a...
