Jan 15, 2019 - RV Super Show

We go to the Tampa Super Show every time we are in Florida for the winter. In our opinion it is the best RV show in the country. It is a nice mix of interesting new RV's in all styles and sizes and pavilions full of gizmos and gadgets. Over the years we've gotten a number of things installed and repaired. Many folks seem to share our opinion. When we were here last in 2017 we heard about two hour delays getting off the expressway and into the fairground where the show takes place. Therefore, we have come a day early with the travel group...

Mar 2, 2018 - Sea Day 2

Our last sea day was much like the first, sun, relaxing, reading, and having an occasional libation, some alcoholic and some not. I decided to walk my 4 miles earlier in the morning, and this was much more successful. It also made me feel good to know that I was working off calories that I consumed, even though I was careful about that aspect of our cruise. Bottom line, I did not gain any weight on the cruise! Yea! A comical element on this day was having an inter-generational version of the show that has newlywed couples answer questions...

Feb 26, 2018 - Cruise - Day 1

We embarked on the Royal Caribbean's Brilliance of the Seas, a fairly large but not behemoth, ship that carries 2,501 passengers. By far, this is the largest cruise ship on which I have sailed, and I don't think I would care to be aboard anything larger. I'm not sure what size ships Sandy has sailed upon in the past. All in all, the ship was nice. Our cabin was standard in size with two windows. The main dining room was two floors, nicely appointed, and the food was uniformly good. The serving staff were excellent. We met Sandy's brother,...

Feb 25, 2018 - Tampa, Florida

Sandy and I stayed with Patti and her husband Matt outside Tampa. In fact, they only moved into a house they bought less than a week before our arrival. I consider them brave to host people amid the normal chaos of moving! Both were extremely hospitable, and we enjoyed spending time with them. We went to Tarpon Springs, of which I have heard but never been to, and perambulated down its main street. One of the things Tarpon Springs is famous for are real sponges. For those not in the know, most of the sponges we buy today are made from wood...

Jan 27, 2018 - Tampa, Florida

Jan 27 Tampa I think we docked later than planned. They were hoping to start self assist debarkation around 7:45 am. It was probably about an hour later. Lots of people waiting where we were as lots of Platinum level which along with Diamond are priority to get off. We were on a bus before 9 after customs. Only about $21 for both of us to be transported to airport. Got to airport real early and flight not till 7:10 pm so can't even check bags till 1:10. So taking turns walking around airport and reading/phones. Staying at Best Western...

Dec 6, 2017 - AirBnB with the beer crew

I traveled to Tampa by way of Lakeland (got a couple of letterboxes and had the engine oil changed at Jiffylube) to meet the other members of the "Beer Crew" for a visit to breweries and to see a bit of Tampa. Pam & Debby organized and led the trip. Chic, Marilyn, June, Nancy, Cindy, and I made up the group for this visit. The house and cottage were rented for two nights for the 8 of us and it cost each of us $65 a night! I stayed for only one night because I am cat and house sitting and didn't feel that I could leave the cats for 2 nights...

Nov 12, 2017 - Football!

Yesterday, I was asked if I wanted to go up to Tampa to see a football game because Toni changed her mind about going! I got the ticket with a military discount (Toni did that for me)! Becky & Michael Ann and their friend Sally came at 8:30 AM to get Deb and me and we went to IHOP for breakfast in Punta Gorda before Deb drove up there. We weren't even early as we thought for the game. Luckily, Becky needed to park in a handicap spot, so we didn't have to walk a mile to the stadium. We did have a hard time finding our seats but once found,...

Oct 28, 2017 - Happy 90th Birthday to Deb's Dad in Florida

A visit to our old stomping grounds in Tampa Bay was extra special this time because of Dad's 90th birthday celebration. His lady friend, Hattie, sure knows how to throw a party. She thought of it all: yummy food, live music, and fifty of their closest friends from their weekly dances. The best part was that Dad was completely surprised and delighted. It was very sweet! Deb's nephew, Joe, and girlfriend, Jovana, happened to be visiting from Denver while we were in Tampa...mini family reunions are always fun!

Jul 15, 2017 - More cedar breaks

As I sit by the canyon, wildflowers everywhere! So why are the bees trying to pollinate my hair? This has been a busy an interesting time the last well or so. I'll include a few vignettes here. The temperature is quite a bit lower at 10,000 feet altitude and the rainy season seems to be earlier This year. We've had hail and snow a couple of times. The residue is usually along the side of the road or nestled under the trees and doesn't stay long once the Sun is out but, really? This is July! We've driven the highway up to Cedar Breaks from...

Jul 11, 2017 - Cedar Breaks

I haven't posted in a while as internet service is very spotty up at 10,000 feet. This will be short as Im on my phone and excuse crazy words, I'm using Swype and screen is too small for proofreading. Everyone up here had been wonderful to us. When we arrived and set up camp we were told there had been a porcupine issue A few weeks ago. A porcupine had chewed brake lines one two vehicles so they had to be towed to Cedar City. Can you imagine if wee had to have the motor home towed? We quickly drive down for repellant and moth balls and the...

Jul 6, 2017 - Red Pueblo and Cedar Breaks

Last year I read a book on my Kindle (thank you, Pat) called Trouble in Red Canyon by Liz Adair. It all took place in the locations around Kanab. We had passed through this area but not stayed here so even though it was interesting, I never made it to the museum that was the star location in the book. This year There was time and we drove over the border into Arizona and pulled into the parking lot for the Red Pueblo Museum. The temperature was about 105 and the area barren a former rest stop that had been closed and taken over by a non...
