We ate dinner at the Hogfish Bar & Grill, our only visit this trip to a restaurant that we have been to before. We started with ceviche – again – then the boss had some steamed shrimp while I had their version of fish and chips, made with hogfish. It was all good and for a place that’s billed as a favorite of the locals, it’s obviously very popular with us touristas too. After that we drove onto the island to park the jeeparoo at the KW post office and walked to our 9:30 event. Which was a ghost tour. Yep, we did a walking tour of Old...

OK, here’s our last update for awhile – the reason for which I will explain shortly – just to bring you up to speed on our activities in the almost 1 month since the last blurb from The Villages. Keep in mind that these recent activities pale in comparison to our normal adventures, but I know that most of you have an odd desire to keep tabs on every aspect of our wanderings, hence the occasional update, even when things aren’t up to the normal thrill-a-minute, seat-of-the pants type reports you are accustomed to. We have finished cleaning...

Just a very short update to let you all know that we are still plugging along. Things have been going pretty well and the short version of what has been going on is this...the first week or so Michele and her brother did a lot of paperwork, online things and phone calls – oh so many phone calls – and most of the pieces of that aggravation have been falling in place so the bulk of that task is done. We are still waiting on a couple things but since most of the paperwork is done Michele and her dad have been going room-to-room,...

So here’s the short daily version of the balance of my cross-country trek...Butte to Rapid City, South Dakota. Rapid City to Rock Port, Missouri. Rock Port to an I-24 rest stop on the Kentucky/Tennessee state line. From that rest stop to a campground near Valdosta, Georgia for Monday night and then early Tuesday afternoon I pulled into our other home-away-from-home in Summerfield, Florida at about noon thirty. Almost exactly 3,000 odometer miles in 5 days of driving, including jaunts through all the big cities I could find – Omaha, Kansas...

The last six months of 2017, I have really become delinquent in writing our blog. So here it is on Christmas Eve, that I am finally taking time to sit down and finish our story for this year. In July, we attended Independence Day celebration at our niece’s farm (Pat & January Meylor) in Darlington WI. Had an opportunity to visit many old friends. Went to Madison where we visited friends George & Marlene Richards, had lunch with Larry’s cousin Marlene and enjoyed having a celebratory lunch with Paul and Glenda Richert (newlyweds). Returned...

May 13, 2017 - Spring 2017

2017 has been eventful so far. I’ll try to sum up the events in our lives since my Christmas blog. In January, Larry was referred to an orthopedic surgeon for evaluation of his shoulder. He was still having considerable pain and wasn’t improving his range of motion. The surgeon agreed that surgery was the next step. Our only disappointment regarding that was the earliest he could get in for surgery was the first week of February, so he continued to take pain pills regularly. The bulk of January was taken up with pre-op evaluations and...

Just a short note to let you know that we have not taken up residence in The Villages. In fact, as things look right now, we will be hitting the road within a week or two and resuming our full-time summer vacation. We have picked up some things that Kyle and Sara had stored at my parent's house prior to their move to Chicago, so it looks like we will be making a delivery there earlier than predicted; sometime after our obligatory visit to Red Bay and before we go to Indianapolis at the end of May. Yeah, I know, that's a pretty big window,...

Dec 17, 2016 - Christmas2016

Since our return to Florida, time seems to fly. We returned with a list of things we wanted to do which has kept us busy all fall. The antiques we acquired this summer are all in place, lanterns on the front of the house replaced, & microwave installed over the stove requiring Larry to retrofit the cabinet above it. Larry is in the process of turning 3 block and tackle pulleys into lamps. We managed to get in some golf and get reacquainted with our Florida friends. Our new pastime includes going to estate sales where we have found small...

Dec 11, 2016 - Summerfield FL

Well, everything went pretty much as planned in Tally, Michele's trip to Broward went well and my time in Ocala was fairly productive so we’re happy with all that. As of Thursday the 8th we have moved to Summerfield to be closer to The Villages and things here have been going fairly smoothly too. We got to see her aunts before they left to go back to New Jersey and also have dinner with some friends from down south who just moved up here in addition to spending some time with her mom at the rehab facility so we have been pretty busy; which...

Just a short blurb to let you know that we are still alive. We are still in Summerfield dealing with the situation in The Villages, where things have improved but are not yet up to full speed. My plan is for us to be back on the road around July 10th, though we all know it’s actually more of a dream than a plan. However, if and when it does happen, we still intend to head west via an as yet undetermined route. But I do feel some Montana in my future though...I hope. Hang in there...

Did you hear that sound? The one that sounded like nuts and bolts getting run through a blender? That was the sound of this part of the adventure again grinding to a halt. Things in The Villages have improved – but not enough – and due to some upcoming doctor appointments in Tampa and some other events on the horizon, the dog and I have relocated back south for the foreseeable future...I told you it could go either way. We left Hot Springs Wednesday morning and following a 10 hour teeth rattling, bone jarring, spleen bruising drive – thank...

Apr 16, 2016 - 2016 Winter Travel Blog Update

2016 Winter Travel Blog Update Our first four months of 2016 have been filled with love and friendship delivered personally by a number of friends and relatives. In January we had guests here 17 days. Our visits included the following: • Steve & Sandy Olson from Three Rivers Michigan traveling south to their winter home in North Port, FL. Steve and Sandy were responsible for introducing Larry and me. Unbelievable we continue to be friends. LOL! They will be stopping in again next week as they travel back north. • Kay and Mike Lauritzen...
