As I had promised myself, we decided to stay at South Beach for a couple of days prior to yet another Caribbean cruise. This time on the Carnival Spirit and to three more different Islands. We also departed from the Port of Miami this time versus Cape Canaveral and South Beach is literally just a 10 minute drive away. Royal South Beach Boutique Hotel was relatively reasonably priced for being only a few blocks up from Ocean Avenue (where the action happens) and we partied for two nights. Living the Dream

Home - 37º and rain: here 82º and sunshine. Where would you rather be? With happy hearts we took a drive south on A1A to South Beach, driving on the barrier islands that form the Indian River passageway along much of Florida's east coast. The names of the towns we drove through convey what we saw - Golden Beach, Sunny Isles Beach, Surfside, Miami Beach. Each town had a different look. You can buy a $5.00 all day bus and rail pass for the Miami-Dade County and today was the day for putting ours to use – we’re goin’ to South Beach!!! Even being the experienced public transit users that we are it took a while to figure out Miami’s system but once done we enjoyed a great rail ride (similar to Vancouver’s Skytrain) into downtown Miami. The Bayside Centre is their central retail, bar, restaurant, tourist waterfront hot-spot and it was chock-a-block full of people – business people on their lunch breaks, locals just hanging...
