Mar 16, 2014 - Debbie's Birthday Dinner

Debbie's birthday is really March 17 (St Patty's Day) but Steve wants to take me out for dinner and he has to work Monday. So he took out out to a fantastic seafood restaurant known as "The Reef" right on the Ocean. We all had a wonderful time, Steve, Sarah, Noelle, Tom and I. Will have to do that again soon. Debbie plans on cooking her favorite Corned Beef and Cabbage tomorrow as it is going to be raining all day long.

Mar 11, 2014 - St Augustine

Today we drove to St. Augustine, Florida. Our first stop was at the St. Augustine Lighthouse and Museum. This is an active lighthouse. The lighthouse stands at the north end of Anastasia Island and was built in 1874. It’s height: is 164'. We ascend 219 steps, which equals 14 stories, and were treated to a 360º view that includes historic St. Augustine, St. Augustine Beach, the Intracoastal Waterway and the Atlantic Ocean. From there, we made our way to the St. Augustine Welcome Center and began a walking tour. Our walk took us past many...

G&L's Travels

Mar 3, 2014 - St. Augustine, FL

We traveled to St. Augustine, FL and arrived at Stagecoach RV Park just outside St. Augustine. Registering was quite a feat here as we dealt with a motorhome that was oblivious to all others trying to register and took his time unhooking his car and moving out of the way. I apologize to any of you reading this that may have a motorhome, but this guy was a bozo and very inconsiderate of all others. This is an old park and with Florida having so much rain this year, was very muddy and the sites were a challenge to get into and out of. We...

Feb 18, 2014 - St Augustine Florida

We loved visiting the oldest city in America, the buildings in the city were beautiful, old town was neat but the Fort, Castillo De San Marcos was amazing, I couldn't get over how big it was,the Spaniards built several forts with wood first but they all either burned or blew away in storms, so in 1672 they started the concrete block fort and it still stands today about 372 years late. There was a life size statue of Ponce De Leon, he was 4 foot 11 inches, and he was the tallest man on his ship. The city of St Augustine will celebrate it's...

Jan 24, 2014 - St. Augustine, & the Bullet-Proof Roof

(Those not interested in the new roof on our camper, can skip down to the “St. Augustine” paragraph) Our most recent stop on our journey through Florida finds us in America’s oldest city; St. Augustine. It’s no random stop mind you; we stayed here for three days while having some long-awaited work done on the camper. In the two years we’ve owned this baby, I’ve occasionally had concerns about the roof. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great, sturdy roof… but there was that one, tiny leak originating at a screw hole in the kayak rack in 2011....

Today was a little cool about in the high 50s. We decided to go into St Augustine and see what we could. Our first stop was at first place the Spaniards had a settlement in the 1500s. We saw the place where the first church was built, a couple of very old graveyards with old grave stones, a giant cross commemorating the first cross that the Spaniards had when they landed and various statues of important people of that time. We were rained on a little bit today but not enough to get soaked. We also went to the fountain of youth and saw some...

Today we didn't do much. We did go fishing for several hours in the early afternoon. Several fish were caught but none by Sally or I. It seem most of the locals here are using shrimp as bait. Later we built a fire and sat around with a little wine and a few beers. We leave for the next park in the morning.

Jan 5, 2014 - Mission of Nombre de Dios

Today we tried to attend Mass at the local Catholic Church in St. Augustine, but since it is in a city there was no parking. So we decided to spend time at the Mission of Nombre de Dios in St. Augustine. A very holy place indeed. We had a great time walking around the grounds.

After leaving our WIFI hot spot Thursday we didn't do much the rest of the day. We listened to the radio and ate supper then went to bed. Sally did some crocheting. After waking Friday morning we tested the slide-out. It would go in and out but we needed to push on one end or the other to get it to fully extend or retract. We decided to go to the beach, on the way out of the park we again saw quite a few wild animals, including pigs, turkeys and deer. The ranger claims to have seen an otter recently and says black bear migrate through the...

Jan 2, 2014 - Jan 1st

After our drive of an hour and a half we arrived at our campsite in Faver-Dykes State Park. It had been raining and misting most of the day. Upon our arrival we were required to drive 1.5 miles down a dirt and sand road. We got the RV and truck very dirty with 2 inches of dirt and sand on the ledge of the bay doors. After connecting the water and electric lines we tried to open the slide. One side repeatedly failed to move. Finally after many attempts we were able to get it to work properly. We'll most likely worry until we leave about if...

Jan 2nd We awoke this morning to a very cool and damp day. It continued to rain until mid afternoon. The temperature was 59 in the morning and rose to about 63. in the afternoon. The weather forecast is for a low of 37 tonight. We took a ride into St. Augustine in the morning stopping at Wal-Mart for supplies and getting gasoline for the pickup. Returning to the RV to put thing away before leaving again for Palm Coast, and the library to get on the Internet so we could do the updates. While we were going in and out of the campground we saw...
