Jun 30, 2010 - Back in PDL

This morning JoAnn drove over to friend Laura's house to swap some CD's for our use while traveling. We were eager to get them as a goodtalk on a CD really helps pass the time on the interstate. On her way home she picked up some fixings to make jambalaya for dinner tonight at David and Susie's. While she was doing this Doug got the blue work done on the rig for departure and we had an uneventful trip up to PDL. JoAnn drove her Honda and we will leave it here while we are on this trip as we don't know how long we will be gone. Upon arrival...

May 4, 2010 - Good News and More Good News

The rain stopped early this morning in PDL and by the time we arrived in Panama City it had almost stopped there. We did run into a flooded road in Southport FL which was the first time we had ever seen it there in the years that we lived near there. Each of us and an appointment with the oncologist today and each of us received good reports. JoAnn had a good mammogram and her blood work was a close to perfect as it can get. She has now been free of cancer for over three years. That just speaks for what early diagnosis does in most all...

May 2, 2010 - First Sunday

Yesterday morning the humidity was registered a 100% but in the afternoon it dropped to as low as 88. At midmorning today it was back around 97. We decided that we must be home again and so we took a walk on the road surrounding the Griffin manse. We did about a mile and that pretty much zapped all of us including Fillmore who spent the rest of the day zonked out. Around 2:00 we drove over to Zeke and Donna's house for the monthly Griffin First Sunday get together and pot luck. It was not as busy as we have seen it in the past but there...

Apr 30, 2010 - Defuniak Springs FL

JoAnn and Susie went off to Defuniak Springs to go to Wally World. Susie had a hair appointment so JoAnn waited for her by walking around the lake in the center of the town. This lake is surrounded by beautiful old Victorian style homes. Each year during Christmas season they are decorated and many of them opened by the owners who are dressed in period costume. It is a very pretty setting year round and has a great "feel" to it. She took a bunch of pictures. Doug stayed at home and finished washing the outside of the rig. It was good to...

Apr 29, 2010 - Another Use for Bounce Fabric Softener

Another beautiful day in the Florida Panhandle aka LA (Lower Alabama) Doug got up at the crack of ten and made his breakfast. He continued on his rig cleaning project by cleaning the nose cap of the trailer. There were myriads of bug carcasses on it and many had been there for a long time. As he was grumbling around for different items to use to clean the mess off, JoAnn yelled out that she had read on a lot of blogs that Bounce Fabric Softener Sheets was good to remove those things. He tried it and boy does it work! Wet a Bounce sheet and...

Apr 28, 2010 - Florida Caverns SP

Another beautiful day in the Florida Panhandle and we took advantage of it by playing. We drove to Mariana FL to the Florida Caverns SP to walk. As it turns out we were the only people in the whole park and that made for a special time. The cavern tours are closed on Tuesday and Wednesday and that made for no visitors. We walked a couple of trails and really enjoyed the spring colors and the sounds of the avian orchestra around us. Apparently there have not been many people on the trails because they were overgrown with grass. Later we...

Apr 27, 2010 - Cleaning Washing and Cooking

It was an enjoyable day in the country even though there were a lot of birds making a big racket singing and tweeting. Doug opened the basement to get out some cleaner and discovered that the bin he stores such things in was covered in oil. It seems he had a spare jug of unused oil that somehow leaked. It was a slickery mess. So his first project of the day was to clean it up. Next he got up on the roof of the rig and hosed it down and scrubbed it with cleaner especially designed for rubber roofs. That chore had not been done in about 8...

Apr 26, 2010 - Third Chemo Treatment

It was a pretty drive this morning from PDL to PC. There was dew on the ground and early morning sun on the leaves. It was a nice leisurely drive. We arrived at the oncologists office early and got in and got started early. The first thing they did was do a blood test to assure that Doug was absorbing the chemo well and the nurse said everything was great. So he settled back on his recliner and played on the computer. This was the third of six scheduled treatments and Doug feels great! He has had no side effects. He will get some blood work...

Apr 25, 2010 - Farewell AL Hello FL

The rains and storms were gone today and it was a beautiful day. Our first project was to hug Ken and Cindy farewell. They were heading for Betty's in Abbeville and all that excellent cuisine. We wanted to be traveling along with them for the food and because they are nice people. JoAnn did the pink stuff and Doug did the blue stuff and we got the rig ready to travel and were checked out by about 10:30. We left the rig on site and drove down to Bon Secour to have lunch at Tin Top. It was again excellent. Doug had a Po Boy and JoAnn had a...

Mar 7, 2010 - First Sunday Festivities

Another beautiful day in the Florida panhandle. The Griffin family all gathered and went to church and the three of us went for a walk down the road leading to the house. When we got back we had a cell message from Gord and Paulette wanting to drive over and see us. They said they thought we were in an RV park but we suspect Gord had read the blog about today being First Sunday where clan Griffin gathers for an afternoon of potluck and visitation. We met them at the rest stop at the PDL intersection on I-10 and drove back out where the...

Mar 6, 2010 - A Laid Back Day in the Country

Today was a nice peaceful day with David and Susie. We went over this morning and had a sit down with Susie and granddaughter Angie. Then the three of us went off a a walk. (Doug doddered.) The gals even got into some speed walking up a hill. When Doug saw that, he took a short cut through the woods back to the rig. Three women and one male was no place for Doug to be. Fillmore and Jada, the Griffin's yard dog went with the girls. Two of the yard cats started but then decided to bask in the sun again. While they were finishing their walk,...

Mar 5, 2010 - Panhandle Style Southern Cooking

We had visitors the first thing this morning. Darrell and Judy came by to take a picture of Fillmore and while they were there Glen and Sylvia also came by to wish us happy trails. They all stayed a few minutes and we bade each other farewell. Doug went outside to start the procedure for setting up the rg for moving when he noticed a trailer tire was in very bad shape with metal showing. It was worn on one side just as we had seen before when we discovered the bent axle. Do we have another one? We will have to have it checked out in PC to...
