Feb 13, 2016 - Tied up behind house of original owner of Southerly

We spent three nights in No Name Harbor. It was a quiet, restful time. We made calls to marinas in Ft. Lauderdale about staying there to get the generator worked on…and we didn’t have much success. Fred thought to call the previous owner of Southerly who happened to have an empty slip behind his house. Tom was generous in offering to let us tie up behind his house. On Friday (the 12th), we started out of No Name Harbor into the ocean and headed north. Of course, the light wind and small waves were from the north, so we motored all of the...

Nov 26, 2013 - Pompano Beach Press

We have had more amazing experiences on this trip and last Friday added to our list. As we were packing to leave by 8:30am one of the coast guard men stopped by and said he was going swimming and would bring back lobster if we could stay till 9:30am-- well that is a no brainer!!! of course we can stay. As it turned out, he was later coming back, we visited a bit and left at 11am - only 2 1/2 hours later, not bad. But as we headed down the road about 5 miles we realized we forgot to give him the package of crab we promised to trade....

Right now I'm laying in bed listening to the air conditioner.. while back at home it is snowing. .. I love Florida. Soo this morning I had to wake up at 4.30 to get to logan for my 7:00 flight .. and have been roasting on the beach all day.. so I may be half asleep as I write this entry. My plane made one stop in Washington d.c today.. and as we flew into the airport I thought to myself.. this is awesome.. I don't ever have to come to Washington d.c again.. How many of you watched the Grammy Awards tonight? Mike & I are throughly enjoying the celebration of all these talented people. Whitney Houston's death is a very sad part however, of the evening. I remember crying when watching her sing "I will always love you" years earlier. How anyone could make a person feel so much, is inncredible. Probably many of you are feeling the same way. Today was a fun day visiting Ft. Lauderdale. It was cold, not even reaching 65. Walked along the ocean and stopped along the way at some interesting...

Dec 27, 2009 - Gourmet Dining

Jean is in charge of the picture taking for this blog and as is her want, some of the photos cover the minor period of rough weather as we went outside from Lake Worth to the Hillsboro Inlet. There were brief periods of discomfort on departure and arrival. but avoiding some 12 timed bridges was well worth it....this according to Bfill. This entry also has a lot to do with fine dining. The place is Pompano Beach at the home of cruising friends Jerry and Sistie Sheppard but didn't involve their famous fish. Arriving before Christmas we soon...

Dec 23, 2009 - Bridges and Gremlins

Our trip has brought us to the most frustrating section of the ICW. It is the time that the Florida bridge system begins to intrude on the good order of the passage. It also is the point where little gremlins have begun to creep into the boat and play games with our heads. As example, a red light will turn on at the electrical panel and that will be followed by a low buzz. Investigation reveals absolutely nothing, but the warning stops. There are an increasing number of these annoyances and it may be time to make up a list and start digging...

Dec 21, 2008 - Musings from Florida

Charlotte had her emotional moment on Mykonos . . . the tears that come when we remember a time that seems so long ago . . . when we passionately loved a time and a place. I had my moment this morning as I stood on the balcony in the early morning and gazed out at the pristine beach and the beautiful Atlantic Ocean. I have forever been drawn to the ocean. It calls to me in ways that I can't describe. When we made the decision to move to California back in '79, I was beside myself with joy over the fact that we'd be living "so close" to the...

Jun 1, 1983 - My Home

I was born in Holy Cross Hospital in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. My parents and maternal grandparents lived in Pompano Beach, where I lived until I was 7. I remember living in several different homes in Pompano. The first was my parents apartment, which my Grandfather Pelski built. Another was a duplex with my mother, which my Grandfather Summer owned as a rent house. The other three were my grandparents houses; the Garden Isles house, the rent house we lived in while our High Ridge home was being remodeled, the High Ridge house. I have vivid...
