Mar 6, 2020 - Gatorland

Long before Walt Disney made Orlando a tourist mecca, small tourist traps in Florida were luring travelers to stop and see gee gaws made out of sea shells and shellacked alligator heads. Gatorland has been in existence since 1949 and is this sort of place, a place we would never deign to visit. But last year the photography club at our campground visited Gatorland and participants raved about what a great destination it was for nature photography. While the park doesn't open until 10am, it offers photographers special access at 7am on some...

Jan 6, 2020 - How I Enjoyed My Florida Vacation

How I Enjoyed My Florida Vacation When I went to Florida, I had no idea what to expect. I knew that the state is known for its warmer climate, luscious beaches, and a myriad of things to do, for whatever type of vacation that you desire. Here are some of the things I most enjoyed about my vacation to Florida.  Made the Most of the Weather Florida is known for its beautiful warm, tropical climate almost all year round, making it an ideal place to go if you live somewhere that gets very cold in the...

Oct 8, 2019 - Orlando, Florida

. Driving the 50 miles from the RV park in Titusville to Orlando would seem like an easy, no stress, drive. It is, until you get about 10 miles from Orlando, when suddenly you are in the middle of chaos, new construction, hairpin turns, exits, on ramps, your two year old GPS is telling you that you're going the wrong way and a front-end collision is in your future. . The freeway system around Orlando was a mess, with new construction, and confusing turns and exits, especially if you are driving a 30 foot motorhome and towing a car behind...

Apr 15, 2019 - Ready,Set,Go!!!

We are packed, showered, hydrated, in our comfy clothes, ready for the van to arrive and take us to the airport. D has money stashed in so many places he could put a squirrel to shame. We have been doctored, prescribed to, tested, and inoculated. Our suitcases are under fifty pounds but my purse weighs twenty. D has 35 crossword puzzles cut from the newspaper to do with his coffee every morning. He has made his final shoe choices. 10 audio books loaded, 15 unread books on my kindle, 2 movies downloaded on my I-pad, and a phone that will NOT...

Mar 13, 2019 - Day 4

Today's the day for Universal Resort Orlando. Lots of things we want to see, and not a lot of time to see them. When we were planning this trip, we bought a book called "The Unofficial Guide to Universal Orlando". It was very helpful in guiding your planning and giving us helpful tips. It also gave us a web site address and mobile app for planning and guiding us at the park. I used the mobile app (for a small fee) and listed all of the attractions we wanted to see. The app then arranges the attractions for the most efficient and best times...

Feb 24, 2019 - fly to Buenos Aries via Atlanta

Step One: Our friend Charlies gave us a ride from the campground the airport. Much appreciated. No traffic delays today. It was a bit jarring to see the lobby where a TSA agent leapt to his death from a balcony a few weeks ago. If the TSA agents were thinking about that or their delayed wages after the government shut-down, they did not let on. In the pre-Check line things moved fast and we rejoiced in keeping our shoes on and computer bags shut. Usually one of us gets nailed for our technology, but we must have looked trustworthy today....

Feb 20, 2019 - FMCA, Valentine, Cummins

We've been in all kinds of weather this month. Hot, humid, cold, sunny, cloudy and rainy. Luckily it was clear for our outdoor Superbowl party that utilizes a big projector screen. Headed to Jacksonville to visit the Mayo Clinic. Just regular check up for Mary. Also went to a Family Motor Coach Assoc (FMCA) rally about an hour down the road. Went with 4 other friends and enjoyed seminars on Alaska caravans, saw vendors, and entertained by singers and impressionists. Mary went to a craft class and decorated a wine bottle. And, we won the...

Up and Rovin

Jan 19, 2019 - 2019

Well with the new year we have not made any resolutions but we are having fun. Been going to the gym and water parks. The bingo, pot lucks and other events here at Rainbow Chase are fun and the people are great. Went into Tampa to see the big RV Show and picked up some goodies including an easy up for extra shade.

Dec 23, 2018 - Christmas Season

December and the holidays have been fun here at Rainbow Chase. Pot luck dinners, parties, gift exchanges and karaoke. Been a bit cold so haven't spent any time at the Disney Waterparks, but have met some great people here. Set up our mini tree and decorations in the bus and just finished another pot luck meal. The regulars here had a golf cart parade which was fun to watch. Also drove towards the beach and visited our old stomping grounds on the St. John's River to watch the air boats and eat gator. Hoping it warms up a bit, but not as bad...

Dec 7, 2018 - Orlando

Sorry for the delay, but after leaving Cedar Key we are now near Orlando and having a blast. So many activities at this resort and only 15 mins to Disney. When we arrived we were surprised to see that Larry and Mary who we met in Alabama decided to visit. They were here at Rainbow Chase RV and we all went to see Ice at the Gaylord Palms. It's an annual presentation where artists sculpt Christmas scenes out of ice. It was awesome. Visited Disney to see the Disney Springs (formally Downtown Disney)and float around at Typhoon Lagoon. Going to...

Oct 17, 2018 - Sand, soccer, and so on

I enjoyed a couple of non-driving days with my good friends in Saint Petersburg. The town has its charms. There are waterfront parks, bike paths, and quiet streets. The beach sand is ultra white and so fine-grained as to be nearly powder. That's because it's off-shore dredge spoils that have been cleaned and processed. It's also cleaned in place. In the evening, city crews drive sweepers along the sand to dispose of trash and dead fish. I believe most beaches in Florida are artificial. I've said before, it you want great beaches, go to...
