Jun 11, 2015 - Goodbye to Yellow Jacket RV Resort

Our time at Yellow Jacket RV Resort has come to an end. We leave here on Friday June 12 heading to NC to spend time with our family and to see our grandson, Isaac, graduate from high school. They sure do grow up fast. While there, we will make a trip back to GA to go to the doctor and dentist for yearly checkups. That is one of the drawbacks of being a full-timer, having to decide whether we go back to our established medical people or try to find someone wherever we park for a while. From talking to our full-timer friends, most plan a trip...

Our Time in Old Town

May 14, 2015 - 4 weeks until we leave Florida

It’s been a fairly uneventful four weeks since our last posting. Florida has gotten hot and humid. Pretty typical and one of the reasons we moved to the mountains. We’ll be leaving in 4 weeks. We took a trip to Otter Springs which was a county park and is now being run by a group called ForVets. They are running the campground and springs to make money to develop a rehabilitation center for severely wounded vets. Right now the group is managing the park and making improvements to the springs, campgrounds, and park areas. Eventually they...

Apr 5, 2015 - Happy Easter

4/5/2015 – Already??? Happy Easter to everyone! We hope the joy of this day has infected you to your very roots. Betsy and I are still workamping at the Yellow Jacket RV Resort in Old Town FL where the weather has been spectacular – for the most part sunny with highs in the upper 70’s to the low 80’s. Our work assignments remain pretty much the same, but I am beginning to shift from the “cut wood- split wood-bundle wood for campfires” to include landscape activities like weed-eating, pruning, and leaf blowing. We have been moved to a...

Mar 9, 2015 - Where did February Go?

It doesn’t seem possible it has been five weeks since our last posting. Lots have happened. First our new Sleep Number Mattress arrived and our sleep has been much better. It has been a challenge to get used to sleeping in a queen size bed rather than a king size but we seem to be managing just fine. The one thing RV makers could do is put better mattresses in their RV’s. I guess if you get one that is really expensive maybe the mattress would be better. We were able to donate our old mattress to the local Hospice Thrift Store in Chiefland...

Feb 2, 2015 - Visits from Friends

Feb 01, 2015 Halftime of Super Bowl 49, a game in which I have no preference. Well this has been a very busy two weeks since last reporting. Good busy. Actually it seems that we are part of a group called “Meet and Eat”. Read on. We went to the Tampa RV show with fellow workamper Bob Miller and met up with Bud and Fran Vivian (workampers from Lake Norman RV resort). We saw some incredible new RVs and successfully kept ourselves from trading in our Bighorn. Of course, we had lunch! And then we had dinner in Ocala on the way home – the Horse...

Our Time in Old Town

Jan 18, 2015 - Manatee Springs and other things

We have survived another 2 weeks of no cell service. We did go to Gainesville to the Verizon store and got new SIM cards but, unfortunately, it didn’t seem to help. We are now investigating VOI (voice over internet) options to making and receiving calls. Will keep you updated when we finally decide which path to take. Sunday, Jan. 4 we were invited to go on one of the campground’s pontoon boats for a ride down the river to a local restaurant for lunch (Treasure Camp Restaurant on the Suwannee). Eight of us went. It was a glorious day and...

Jan 1, 2015 - Old Town, FLORIDA

WOW! Imagine being so far out in the boonies that there is no cell phone service. Or you can imagine being on the Suwanee River in Old Town, FL, USA… where there actually is no cell phone service. We do have US mail, email, and there is something in the campground office called a telephone – it is a device that is connected to wires – it’s called a land-line. If you absolutely need to get in touch, the office number is 352-542-8365. But the best way to contact us is email: Betsy – quilter489@gmail.com Rick – rickrocksat489@gmail.com The...

Jul 24, 2014 - way down upon the Suwannee River

Well, yesterday we found ourselves way down south by the Suwannee river in the Yellow Jacket RV Park. It was so far down we didn't have phone service. That was ok with us but I know some people who would not have survived. We have moved over to High Springs for one night, very rustic, as was Yellow Jacket. Then tomorrow we will go to Keystone Heights where our good friends Lora and Bucky live. From there we can visit our old stomping grounds, friends and neighbors. Not sure how long we will be there, stay tuned Donna

Mar 13, 2014 - Work and Play in Old Town

After our speedy zig-zag though the state, we headed back north again to Old Town, FL. We were ready for a 30-day stay at a more reasonably priced spot, so we could save some money, and I could take care of my “honey-do” list. Just as I did with our “stix & brix” home, I keep a running mental list of “things to put off ‘til next week”. Well, six months later those things need to get done! Things like truck maintenance, camper modifications, and camper maintenance. Sitting in one spot also gives us time to re-order stuff online, since...

Feb 23, 2014 - Old Town, FL

While we decided to move on, on this day, we traveled through tremendous rain coming down and on the roads. Made traveling difficult and we were all glad to arrive at our next destination which was Lucky Charm RV Park in Old Town, FL. They call this area the Nature Coast of Florida. This is a new park set amongst Water Oaks. While this is a beautiful setting, these trees drop leaves and little tiny acorns ALL the time. Our first adventure here was to visit Manatee Springs State Park. This state park is home to one of Florida's largest...

Mar 29, 2013 - Old Town, FL

3/29/13, Friday We got up and out early today planning on a 4 hour or so drive to Old Town, FL. We drove US 98 along the water most of the way. What a GORGEOUS drive!! Again, we saw many houses and lots for sale. Mexico Beach was one of the prettier beaches along the way. US 98 was literally right on the sandy beach. It was Spring Break so there were many young college kids out having a great time. We passed the Constitutional Convention State Park and a lot of awesome scenery. We came to the town of Apalachicola where we could not help...

Mar 13, 2013 - Moving North

Tuesday was moving day. It dawned dark and raining – ugh! We have packed up and moved in the rain before but would rather not. We actually contemplated staying another day and called to see if our site was available for one more – nope. So, since we would have to move anyway, it was time to get on with it. It was still raining as we left Sarasota and headed north on I-75. The rain soon dwindled and eventually it stopped. It actually turned out to be a decent travel day. We decided to stay at a park on the Suwannee River that takes Passport...
