Apr 10, 2014 - Happy Birthday!

Another year, another birthday, how time flies. Glenna and I drove west from Tallahassee on I-10 toward Miramar Beach on the gulf coast. The reasons for this destination are twofold. Firstly, it is home to a Premium Outlets Mall, and secondly home to some of the nicest beaches anywhere. It is famous for a fabulous, fine, white sand beach. We gained an hour this morning as we entered the central time zone, so we arrived at Gulf Camp on Miramar Beach before noon. Gulf Camp is one of the few campgrounds where you can actually park on the...

Feb 13, 2013 - Rerun

Riding northwest up the beautiful beach out of Panama City Beach, we watched school kids waiting for the bus watching us almost with their mouths hanging open. I hope none of them skipped school! The wind was against us but wasn't very strong. Thank goodness the weather prediction was wrong. We were at Seaside, our half way mark, when the clouds darkened a little and the wind got chilly. That was the worst of our day! A rerun of the great day we had on the way down. As we arrived in Seaside, a woman stopped to talk to us about the Bike...

Feb 1, 2013 - Good birthday

John's birthday. Bike touring is a nice thing to get to do on your birthday. We had a good tailwind all day. It was overcast early, but cleared up for a beautiful day. Traffic, on the other hand, was terrible. And mind you, this is offseason! I can't imagine what it would be like during tourist season. We rode by Eglin Air Force Base and could see C130s in the air most of the day. One landed just in front of us. If we had been 1/4 mi further down the road, it would have felt like it was landing on our heads! It is amazing how many times...

Our last few days in the Destin area along the NW coast of Florida- We have not gone too far, walking along different beaches Wal says they all look the same!!! Wandering America

Nov 27, 2011 - Miramar Beach- Destin

Wednesday we left Carrabelle driving 127 miles to Miramar Beach near Destin taking just under 3 hours as a lot of the roads were only 2 lanes & narrow in places. Destin is a lot more built up with lots of shops & malls. We are staying only 250 yards from the beach. Thursday we drove to Topsail Hill Preserve State Park where we walked quite a few miles on the trails around Morris & Campbell Lakes, we also walked miles along the shores of the beach that was off the State Park collecting different shells, the sand is so white & so fine it...
