May 8, 2018 - Mims, FL

Tue, 08 May: We're back on the road... This time for real! Yeah, for real... We've been making these short runs since returning from our cruise. Today's run, while also short, is the first of eight that'll take us from Florida to New Jersey. We try not have too many "hard dates" but this time we do. We have reservations at an RV park in New Jersey for a week today, so time to make tracks. We got ourselves up and about at daybreak (around 0700) and were ready to roll a bit after 0900. Our good friends, Charles & Chris Yust weren't yet out...

May 16, 2016 - Mims, Fl

Mon, 16 May: Heading north at last... After a week at the Jonathan Dickinson State Park in Hobe Sound Florida the time has come to begin our trek northward. In addition to being out of time here at the park, the weekend's high eighties temperature and humidity serves as a tangible incentive. We had pretty much gotten Carpe Diem ready for the road yesterday by dumping the holding tanks, adding water to the potable tank, checking tire pressure, engine oil, etc., etc. So, despite sleeping in till eight we enjoyed our morning tea, a hearty...

2016 Travels

Jan 2, 2016 - Day 55 - in Mims, Florida

Cheryl stopped by this morning to invite us over for cocktails about 5:00 tonight. We accepted and promised a coach tour later as well. We took a drive out to Christmas and to the Tosohatchee Wildlife Management Area out there, and then back to the coast to Cocoa Beach and Port Canaveral. As we crossed the bridge to Cocoa Beach we could see kite-surfers in the bay and stopped to watch them. There were more than a dozen of them, and several were very good, with high leaps and fast turns. They were fabulous to watch. We drove along the coast...

Jan 1, 2016 - Day 54 - New Years Day in Mims, Florida

We had the bus ready to move by 10:00 AM but had to wait for the rest of the sites to vacate. Our neighbour let us know that his brother-in -law was about a half hour away, and was wanting our site. The people next to Bob had not yet moved so the parade around the circle could not begin until then. About 10:45 John and Lori drove past letting us know that the parade had begun. We moved around the circle to almost opposite to where we had been, now facing the clubhouse, pool and tennis courts. We set up our outside furniture and relaxed...

Dec 31, 2015 - Day 53 - New Years Eve in Mims, Florida

We went shopping today to find something to take to the party tonight, settling on simple, a meat and cheese tray by Hormel. We relaxed, Garry had a nap so he could stay up past midnight, then dressed up after supper. The party started at 9:00, and was in full swing at 9:15 when we got there. The sign up board was now full of names, probably a 100 people easy. We found a couple of places at table with two other couples, Cheryl and Bob and Lorelei and John. Both were originally from the Chicago area but both winter in Florida. They are...

Dec 30, 2015 - Day 52 - in Mims, Florida

Armed with eavesdropped information from the pool yesterday, we headed back to Merritt Island to Bio-Lab Road. We stopped on our way at the Visitors Center and walked the boardwalk there and saw a baby alligator (about 18 inches long), no sign of Mama so must be a couple years old. On Bio-Lab Road we saw many of the same birds as on the Trail, but in lesser numbers, and also alligators sunning themselves along the canal edge. We continued on to the Manatee Lookout, saw three manatee and a bonus of two dolphins.

Dec 29, 2015 - Day 51 - in Mims, Florida

We extended our stay until Monday so all weekend campers will be back home and getting a campsite may be easier, and also paid our $15 fee so we could wash the bus. We spent several hours getting that done as he started with the roof, that had not been done for 18 months at least. We started trouble because when the neighbours got home, it was not long before he was outside washing his truck. A lot of work but the bus looks great. We spent the afternoon recovering at the pool.

Dec 28, 2015 - Day 50 - in Mims, Florida

We headed out to Merritt Island to Cape Canaveral National Seashore, but did not quite make it that far. We stopped at Black Point Wildlife Drive in Merritt Island National wildlife Refuge. The pond at the entrance had a crowd of people taking photos of a large flock of Roseate Spoonbills, Great Blue Herons, Egrets, Wood Storks, Tri-color Herons, White Ibis, Glossy Ibis and probably others I can't name. This all before we entered the trail. We decided to pay our $5 and take the seven mile drive. We saw mor of the same plus thousands of...

Heading back East once again on FL-50. It's 95 miles to Seasons In The Sun RV Resort in Mims, Fl. We're practically within sight of the Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB) and the launch pads at Kennedy Space Center. Once again, we're familiar with the area an so we make it to Rusty's on the waterfront at Port Canaveral where we can nibble bacon wrapped shrimp while watching the cruise ships depart. We also managed to find our way back to Dixie Crossroads in Titusville. Ellen will go there for the hush puppies alone. All this dining out made up...

Dec 23, 2014 - Mims, FL

Woohoo! Sunny and warm Florida! Brian's first time in the Sunshine State! We are staying on an orange grove east of Orlando. Our hosts are very generous, energetic, informative...they and have lots of great stories to share! Richard is retired after spending 30 years in the Coast Guard and has a passion for boats. He and his wife have been all over the world. Yesterday we had to get our muffler fixed. In the meantime, we went for a walk and stumbled across the NASA astronaut memorial park. Then we went to Veteran's. Memorial Park where...

Our Road Trip

Jan 16, 2013 - Mims, Florida - 2

I can't believe we've been here a week already. The time has just flown by. Monday we decided to go out for a ride. We went to Sanford. They have a beautiful Riverwalk. We walked around the area. It's on the St. Johns River. There's also a nice marina there as well as a paddleboat you can go for a dinner cruise on. We did not do the cruise. From Sanford we continued on down to Winter Park - almost into Orlando - and then came back to the campground a different route. It was a nice ride. Tuesday we went down to Melbourne and met my cousin,...
