Feb 15, 2014 - Feb 7th

We've had to move between two campgrounds the last several days. The current one is really Monument Lake but I was unable to find it on the map provided by the blog so I just left Midway federal campground as our location. We're really at Monument Federal campground about 8 miles down the road. We went to the Everglades City seafood festival today, with a couple of campers we met several days ago. Their names were Gary and Lois Miley. We walked around and saw what we could then stopped and watched a band that did The 4 Seasons hit songs....

Another warm day in the high 80's. We drove 30 some miles back to Bear Lake. It was a wash board dirt road almost the whole way. On the way we saw many alligators and a tortoise. We also saw a orange tree along side the road. It's unusual for us to see oranges growing in the wild. We decided to fish a little on the way back to the campground. No fish were caught but we did see a 7ft or so dead alligator that the vultures were preparing to eat.

We went to Shark Valley to day. We decided to ride the bikes around the 13 mile loop. The first 6 miles are the place to see alligators and the final 7 miles are mostly views of the everglades and wading birds. There should be pics of the alligators today. Sally almost walked on one while we were at the observation tower. It was laying across the walkway and Sally was talking. If you are ever in this area you need to go to Shark Valley. In the evening we had dinner with Dave and Arleen Gates at Everglades City at Camilla's. Good food good...

Travel day today. We drove 159 miles today. We got gas for the rv on the way and we got 8 mpg on that tank. We got to the Midway campground about 2:30. Terry fished the pond in the middle of the campground and caught 2 small bass and 6 very large bluegill. We sat around in the evening and had a fire. We have removed the valve extenders on the tires that were giving us trouble and they have been holding air since. It is hard to check the outer tire for air pressure but impossible to check the inner tire for air pressure. We apply the gauge...

Another big day for us. We saw much wildlife. We went into the everglades again at the Chekika entrance where we walked a half mile nature trail. We talked to a volunteer who sail they had killed several python in the area this year. There was a pond there and we saw several alligators there. We have seen a large number of them in the last several days. We got a campsite called Midway in the Big Cypress refuge and cam back to walk the trail at Shark Valley in the Everglades.
