Apr 10, 2015 - Cape Canaveral, FL

We almost didn't come to Cape Canaveral, because we had already been to the NASA Johnson center outside of Houston. I am so glad we changed our minds. The "Cape" is a much better tour and explains the whole space shuttle experience much better. The outside tour takes you on a bus to where the rockets are built and stored. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicle_Assembly_Building. It is the largest single story building in the world. The transporter crawler takes the rocket from the Assembly Bldg to the launch site. This piece of machinery is...

Sep 10, 2014 - Home

September 10, 2014 Today we arrived safely back at our home in Merritt Island. Our trip covered 16,775 miles during the 126 days we were gone. During that time we travelled through 19 different states in the U.S. and 3 Canadian Provinces. We visited 7 National Parks and 1 National Monument in the United States and 6 National Parks in Canada. Our travels took us on interstates, multi lane highways, two lane roads, and dirt/gravel roads. In some cases we only saw a couple of cars per hour on the road but the scenery was incredible. The award...

Jun 6, 2014 - May and June in Merritt Island

We have been in Merritt Island Fl for the last two months. We got to spend a lot of time with old friends, ate too much and drank too much. While we were there we went out on the gambling boat once and did ok. We also drove down to Ft Myers, Fl and got on a fast boat to Key West where we spent five days with four other couples. A good time was had by all. During this two months we got all our doctor appointment complete and got all prescriptions filled. We will leave Merritt Island on Friday the 6th.

Dec 15, 2013 - Merritt Island, Florida

Days 282 - 286 of The Big Trip When we left Mayport, on December 11, the temperature was 52°. By the time we drove south about 185 miles to the Cape Canaveral area, it was 82°. Big difference. Sandi had learned that the RV facilities at the Space Center had recently opened to military retirees, so that's where we headed. As we were checking in at the office, we saw animals in the marina area. It turns out that little lagoon is full of manatees. Hopefully, while we're here, we'll see more than bumps in the water. Our motor homes faced east....

Oct 23, 2013 - Home, Merritt Island

This will be the final post for this great adventure. We had such a great time and it was a pleasure sharing our trip with all of you. Really did make it seem that we had good friends along on the trip. We left Cleveland Ga. And went to Atlanta Speedway for the Goodsam’s Rally for 5 days. We got to see the Beach Boys and Vince Gill in concert. Two absolutely great shows. We left there and went to Savannah Ga. To meet up with Judy’s sister and my brother-in-law and a couple other friends from Merritt Island. We had a great time just visiting...

Oct 18, 2013 - Leaving Merritt Island

Sold the house, packed up and moved out last week. We have been living in Gulliver at our dear neighbors' driveway. It has been bittersweet to have this week to say our farewells. What we didn't sell or give away is packed away in two storage facilities. We have a smaller one to contain my essentials (read that as fabric, paper, and yarn. We only needed one extra for my things because most has fit into the motorhome. (Bob is sure we are overloaded.) I keep trying to reassure him. "Drive slow and we can stop if I need anything else." All...

Jun 5, 2013 - The Great Escape

We put the house on the market April 1st. We have sat here long enough waiting for it to sell. The problem is most people think we live too far out. It is almost 10 miles to the grocery store. Hopefully someone will come along to cherish the lack of traffic and the peaceful lake with only the sounds of nature. We have a great community here and I will miss the wonderful neighbors we have. So this entry is to let everyone know that we will be heading out for awhile. It is starting to get humid in Florida (not hot) and we want to head to the...

Dec 1, 2012 - St. Augustine, New Smyrna Beach, Merritt Island

December 1, 2012 Hi All! It has been awhile since I have updated my blog! Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! We had Thanksgiving in Charleston, SC. We stayed are the Maritime Center. They had a pot luck dinner with turkey, ham, dressing and every side dish imaginable. Everyone had a great time. The one big group was from France. They are traveling for two years. They have been out about one. There are six boats that have become friends over time and travel together. Friday we walked around Charleston. It is a great walking city and I...

Jul 1, 2012 - BLOW-OUT

On the way to Gettysburg, PA, we developed some mechanical problems in the Gulliver. After many phone calls we finally found a place that would look at it. We pulled into a mechanic in Fairmont, West Virginia. They could find nothing wrong. We went off down the road and again had a violent shaking and finally an explosion. The left read tire had literally blown up. Bob skillfully guided the motorhome to the side and we called for emergency assistance. While waiting for the tow truck, Bob released the spare tire stored underneath the vehicle...

Apr 17, 2012 - And We're Off!

Okay...Do we have the cat? dog? birds? outside rugs? phone? and we are off! So as we are leaving home and heading down Pine Island Road (less than a mile from home), we spot the shuttle Discovery riding on top of a jumbo jet. They did a low fly over and then headed to a new home at the Smithsonian. How cool is that?! I have never seen the shuttle piggyback on a jet. It was great. I double checked that the garage door was closed and we got Lilliput (our towed car) hooked up to Gulliver (our motor-home). We were about three hours down the...

Apr 14, 2012 - Getting Ready

We are just about ready to head out. We have been getting the house ready to close up. Hurricane shutters are up..check. Mail forwarding set up...check. Cable, phone and Internet placed in hibernation...check. Lists of last minute stuff have been made. I hate that feeling that you forgot something, but can't put your finger on it. "Do we have the cat?" "Did you close the garage door?" "No, I thought you did!" And it all begins. We are so lucky to have wonderful neighbors who will take in the rug we left out or check to see if I closed the...

Sep 15, 2011 - Underway...Shift Colors!

Here we go again...Underway for a new adventure. We were temporarily derailed by Hurricane Irene. Our original plans were to spend a few days on Hatteras Island (Pea Island). The Hurricane damaged the bridge over Oregon Inlet and washed out the road in several places. On a barrier island that means there are many new inlets between the sound and the ocean. Bob plans on attending his annual old guy surfer retreat in Kitty Hawk this year. I will be enjoying the beach at Kitty Hawk RV Park with Tommy and Mia (dog and cat). We decided to leave...
