Feb 2, 2019 - Viera Wetlands

When we look at a satellite view map of central Florida, we see a swiss cheese pattern, land pocked by myriad holes containing water. It's not surprising that there are stories in the news regularly about people inadvertently driving their cars into lakes and canals. They're everywhere! These wet spots are a huge draw for all manner of water birds: full time residents as well as birds like us passing through. As we learned in our recent visit to the Orlando Wetlands, these wet spots are not just good places for birds and people to go...

Jan 29, 2018 - Melbourne

It had rained a lot overnight but it was done by the morning. It was cloudy for most of the day but the temp was in the mid 70’s. we were up too early for anything to be open so we left St Augustine and went along #1 along the coast, beautiful drive. We stopped at Flagler Beach Pier and spent some time on it. One guy said that it used to be 1000 feet long but now only 500 ft because of the storms. We watched quite a few surfers and they were lots of big waves coming in. We then continued down to Kennedy Space Centre and NASA. We got our...

May 13, 2017 - The "Rainmakers" come home!

We're back ..... and we DID bring some rain with us! We checked yesterday and weather.com showed ZERO chance of rain for Brevard County. We had rain all the way from Jacksonville to Cocoa. Much needed rain so no complaints from us! We left Hilton Head Island at 9:00 and met Rick's family for lunch at the Town Center in Jacksonville. It was great to see all of them and to wish Emma a HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I was sorry we had to continue on as they were heading to the indoor go-cart track to celebrate her birthday with friends. So after 30 days and...

Nov 3, 2015 - Good day moving south on the ICW.

We have moved Southerly in the ICW today. We would have done an overnight in the ocean and gotten to Palm Beach tomorrow morning if the weather forecast had been favorable. However, storms were forecast for this evening and we just didn’t need to put ourselves at risk. We will get to Palm Beach on Thursday instead. We motored through long straight stretches of water that sometimes had plenty of depth and the sometimes shoaled to more shallow depths than we like. However, we managed to stay in the channel. We also had to negotiate several...

Oct 14, 2015 - Sebastian Inlet area, FL

We set out across Florida in a search for a nice warm Atlantic Beach and fishing pier. Broward County has three county-run parks with excellent facilities in the area. Long Point Park is one of those facilities, and we were able to snag a spot for a few days in this high-demand park. It's a gorgeous, grassy field surrounding a marshy pond which they call a bird sanctuary. The campground is inhabited by a small flock (?) of wood storks. The first thing we noticed as we pulled in was the,...er..., smell of sulphur in the water and the...

Jul 15, 2015 - Updated Itinerary and Map

Just an update to the itinerary; deleted Omaha and added Dodge City (going to see Miss Kitty). The map is revised accordingly. We are in the usual tizzy trying to get ready to leave. Of course getting the motorhome out of service after a month or more would be real plus. They have promised it tomorrow morning. Hang in there and we will see you down the road.

Jun 27, 2015 - Outside Caching ?

I like to hunt for containers in the park one day and then go in town to see some new places. That is why I like geocaching because it can take you to places that you would never go or ever know about. I went to Merritt Island to see a Goecaching store and they had a huge geocaching container in front of the store. Also I could see the town , maybe get a few caches in the area. I got to go to Veteran's Memorial Park which had a container under the flag box, this box was a old mailbox used to hold old flags that would be burned. The park had...

We arrived home from Sarasota yesterday, an easy problem free drive. We are glad to be home. My check up went well in Sarasota. Good for another year. On Tuesday we visited our friends, Bill and Charlie, and for those that know Bill, he looks real good. Hang in there Bill. Then on to Brandon to have dinner with our friends, Ted and Jan, who are 'vacationing' at MacDill AFB FamCamp while awaiting their move in date for their new home at Top O The World in Ocala. We had a great seafood dinner at Shrimp Boat Bar and Grill, a new haunt we...

Jun 19, 2014 - WICKHAM PARK

We had only a few hours drive to arrive at Wickham Park in Melbourne , Florida. This is a very nice county park, with about 153 camp site with full hook-ups. We arrived on Thursday, just a little early, before all the people arrive. We got our camp site and after setting up , we could smell a strong cigar smell hitting us right in the face. Norma can not take cigar smoke, it shall cause her face to swell up and her throat to shut on her. Norma can not drink coffee or smell coffee with out getting headaches or feeling sick. She gets...
