Mar 31, 2019 - Well I fell behind on this again

We spent two nights along the Suwanee River at the Suwanee River Rendezvous RV Park. The second day there was rain all day. I'm sure we'll be finding mud for the next month. Mayo, Florida makes Chattahoochee look like Times Square. This was definitely "out in the country". Onward we go.....

Feb 15, 2017 - passing time in Mayo

Wonderful Wednesday… Happy Wednesday from Mayo, Florida. Hard to believe we have been here almost a month and will be heading to our next destination on Sunday! Although we have had a relaxing time here, it is probably not a place we would choose to stay for a month in the future – just too far away from basic necessities! When I last posted, Steve was sick – he is doing MUCH better now and we are both close to being well once again – WOOP WOOP! Being sick is bad enough, but when you are 45 miles away from the nearest large city, it is even...

Feb 11, 2017 - Bad NOX and chicken chili

Sunny and 75…. When I last posted, I mentioned that BAT had thrown us another “check engine” light. Steve took her into Lake City to be checked on Thursday and the dealer ended up needing to keep her overnight. They gave Steve a rental car and all he had to pay was gas. That was nice! However, the issue turned out to be a bad NOX sensor (emissions-related) and it wasn’t covered by our extended warranty. Dang. When Steve woke up on Friday, he had a headache and a sore throat, but he powered through it and went back to pick up BAT on Friday...

Feb 8, 2017 - I may live....

When I last posted to the blog, I was waiting on a call back from the doctor’s office to get some cough syrup called into the pharmacy. Since it was a Friday, I wanted to make sure to get through to them so I wouldn’t have to go another weekend with this dreadful cough. The nurse called back at 4:30 and I explained what was going on. She asked if I had tried Robitussin DM – yes, I have and it is not working. “Are you sure it is DM”, she asked. Well, yes, I am sure. I said I have also tried Mucienx DM and other assorted over the counter...

Feb 3, 2017 - Sick in Mayo

They say that living in an RV full time is just like living in any other house that doesn’t have wheels – you will still have a few bills to pay, you will still be affected by weather and you will still get sick. Well, “they” were right – all of these have happened to us! I have been sick for a week and just can’t seem to shake this nasty cough. I have coughed so much that my ribs are sore and my throat looks like raw meat. This past Monday, Steve took me to a doctor in nearby Mayo. It started out well – I called to see if I could get an...

2017 Life in our RV

Jan 23, 2017 - Chicken poop and wind

During the day on Friday, we got out our bikes and took a 4-mile ride on the paved bike trail that runs along the road. It felt good to get out and get some exercise. My thighs were arguing with me, but I ignored them for the most part. We are really out in the country and our ride took us by a couple fields that had dairy cows in them. I stopped to take a picture (of course) and the cows just looked at me, and chewed. I think I mentioned in my last post that there was bingo here at the resort – regular bingo and chicken poop bingo. On...

2017 Life in our RV

Apr 21, 2015 - Way down upon the Suwannee River . . .

Patti writes . . . We have safely moved on to the Suwannee River Resort, in Lafayette County, Florida. Not to brag or nuthin, but we are getting pretty efficient about getting settled in—and this location offers FHU's* on pull-through sites, so that usually makes it fairly simple. HOWEVER, as we arrived it was pouring rain, so John got pretty much soaked hooking us up to shore power! A hot shower, dinner, and an old Burt Reynolds movie later, the rain let up and we got in a walk around the property before nightfall. I hasten to add:...

Oct 25, 2014 - Suwannee River

As a transition from South Florida to the Florida Panhandle, we spent a night on the Suwannee River (aka the Swanee River). Who knew it was spelled with a "u"? Certainly, Al Jolson didn't. Nor did I. We were in a very rural part of Florida, with lots of pine forests and a few cotton fields in bloom. The Suwannee is not the Columbia or the Colorado, but it had a certain peacefulness to it. Lots of kids were floating down it in innertubes. Our RV park came complete with three heated pools, one in-ground hot tube, and a 72 degree natural...

Apr 20, 2014 - Wonderful final weeks in Mayo

Worked on organizing storage units of items that had been kept at the country. Lawn tools, carpentry tools, outdoor furniture, seasonal decorations.. where did all this stuff come from!? I thought we had purged! Layten turned 6, Skyped with him while he opened his gifts. Was relieved to see his excitement when opening work book on the Bible. He gave Ali her peeps out of the shipping box. Bible study in Perry, I will miss not only the learning, but the fellowship of these special ladies. As we have come to expect Pastor Steve, preaches...

Apr 12, 2014 - Super T-ball Sat; pick nick at church; egg hunt by flashlight

All the practices have been fun to watch. The children started out not even knowing what a base was. No practices on an actual field, so no ability to practice running bases. A lot of picking flowers instead of looking for the ball coming. This age is the age of concrete thinking. Say raise your arms to catch the ball and the arms go up until they are tired. Jumping jacks are jumping up and down. Coached to throw the ball to first base, which they did even if runner standing next to them. Bored, just draw in the sand until someone calls...

Apr 10, 2014 - Birthday 65

I have a blessed life: To live my dream: serving God while seeing family and the USA. My only regret, that I did not study God's word consistently during this life. I thank God for all the friends I have: family, childhood, EHB, TMH , NFC, Bunco, Book Club, Mayo, fellow Christian volunteers, and campers. I praise God for my family.

Feb 28, 2014 - Nettles Sausage Company, Ichnetucknee Springs, and more

A blessed month. Special times with Boone; orientation at V.A., more medical testing, and exploring the area. We found Nettles Sausage Company just south of Lake City where they raise their own pigs and make their own sausage, smoked ribs, etc. The beef is all locally raised. Excellent meat. We enjoyed our new friends Betti and Jim. Went on a day trip to Ichnetucknee Springs, Nettles Sausage factory, then lunch in Lake City. The spring head is a beautiful blue and the river head know for canoeing and kayaking. The river is a favorite place...
