Dec 6, 2018 - Thursday is kayaking day!
Another Thursday, another day to kayak! Another cold front came through yesterday and it was in the mid 40s when we woke up this morning. We waited until 10 AM and then headed south again to Lover's Key State Park for a kayak among the mangroves in a 2.5 mile long kayak trail. The day was glorious and just right for kayaking once we got there! Again there were 12 of us, and it is nice to see different people join us each week. It was a sign for me that we would see lots of birds when the first one was an Osprey right after we got going....Jump to full entry
May 3, 2018 - last kayaking day of the season?
I thank the wind for coming out of the East the last two days because it chased away the Red Tide and allowed us to go to Lover's Key State Park to go kayaking. What a fantastic day! Lover's Key State Park is a place I have not been to and after kayaking amongst the mangroves today, I want to come back and hike its trails and even consider camping there! I think this was a record number of kayakers from Carefree out this morning - we left at 8 AM and got to the launch site after 9 AM. There was only one mishap getting in our kayaks - Helen fell out of her canoe while trying to get in to it! Once we got going, we were privileged to find a sunning gator, a black-crowned night heron, a juvenile little...Jump to full entry
Feb 1, 2012 - Lovers Key Beach
From WP Franklin Lock Campground in Alva, FL … Wednesday, February 1, 2011 As it has been pretty much every day this winter, the weather was forecast to be beautiful today. So we decided to make it a beach day. After breakfast, we took a two mile walk around the park. Then we packed a cooler of drinks and put our chairs into the trunk of the car, and we were on our way. We have several different nice beach areas within 30 miles in this area; however, with the southwest Florida winter traffic, it generally takes about an hour to get there....Jump to full entry
