Today we started the day once again drinking our coffee. After we drank too much coffee we went into the Red Bare Flea Market again. Yesterday we were there but we decided to go again and check it out a little more thoroughly. We bought vegetable at a good price and I bought myself a hat. We must have spent about 2-3 hrs. before we left. This place is fun but the streets are really laid out in a funny manner. Driving is really difficult. After we returned to camp I went fishing down at the lake. Boy it was very windy. I fished for a while...

Lake Manatee State Park is new to us. It is a fairly small state park of about 175 acres with one boundary along lake Manatee. The lake is the water source for Manatee and Sarasota Counties and is formed via a dam on the Manatee River. I am really loving the landscape here, especially the interconnected trails which I have been walking every day in the late afternoon. The setting sun across this landscape creates something similar to an internal rhapsody, the light filtering through the assorted foliage and birds active across the open...

Lavender's Travels

Jan 28, 2015 - Hoola Hoops, Pagnol, Spanish Gardens

We had a lovely mixed week combining, nature, food, exercise, culture, shopping, socializing and history. In spite of the intensity of a thunderstorm that came through the park Friday night, dropping branches and rain, nothing broke and the sky cleared and plans continued to be made or rearranged. Oscar Scherer State park is a tough park to reserve. After two weeks there, we understand why it is so popular. The campground and facilities are well kept, the trails are easy to access and follow. There is a menu of in park activities in which...

Feb 6, 2013 - 2-4-2013 Lake Manatee State Park

It was a cold night, 38 degrees. We went in to Colin and Dianne Mayleds today. Terry and Colin went fishing. Terry caught a flounder and a lady fish of about 15 inches. Then fed it to a heron who held it in his beak for several moments then swallowed it whole in one quick gulp. Dianne made dinner and we ate and got back to camp at 8:15. Another good day.
