Apr 12, 2019 - The U.R. Forbidden List

When we started traveling in our RV and on cruises abroad our daughter started compiling a list of things we are NOT allowed to do. 1. No riding in hot air balloons. She watched a documentary where they all caught fire and plummeted to the earth. 2. No cave exploration. Remember the soccer team. 3. No riding on large animals. Elephants and camels in particular, Donkeys in the Grand Canyon. 4. No place wild monkeys roam loose. We are told they can eat your face off. 5. No transportation that hangs on a cable. 6. No hanging bridges over...

Apr 10, 2019 - Money,Money, What kind of money,honey?

First there is the Euro. Good at the first four ports. We purchased 500 from our bank, Cost $600 @ $1.20 each. There will be 2 cab rides, airport to hotel and hotel to ship port. Food, sight seeing, a flea market in Barcelona. Let’s not forget a five hour flight lay-over in Germany. Did we get enough? Too much? Who knows because we will have entered a “giant crap shoot” of currency. In Jordan the currency is called the Dinar. Just one costs $1.41 in USD. So if a soft drink & crisps cost 3.5 Dinar it is $5.15 USD. Dubai, UAE has currency...

Apr 8, 2019 - Visa! Visa! Who needs a Visa?

Knowing when, where, and how you obtain your visa’s is new territory for me. Spain, Italy, Greece, Malaysia, and Singapore accept US passports without a visa. We will receive a complimentary multiple stamp visa for Dubai at the ship terminal upon boarding. India requires a visa NOT included in the price of a shore trip nor does a ship booking give you a temporary one. When departing the ship into India your government issued visa must be in your hand. You can go through a Visa processing company which charges an average of $119 per person...

Apr 6, 2019 - 50 Pounds of Clothing

Europe will be early spring temperatures in the 50’s and 60’s. Blue jean weather for Floridians. In the Suez Canal we will gain another 10 degrees. Dubai and Oman could reach 100. With a the rest of the trip in the 80’s and 90’s. So we must pack for as much as a 50 degree temperature range over the 35 days of cruising and shore trips. In addition there are other clothing restrictions and requirements added by those countries that observe a very conservative view of what is acceptable. Europe is pretty lax unless you are visiting church’s....

Apr 5, 2019 - A Lot of Firsts

As we prepare for our second set of back to back cruises, I realize there is a plethora of firsts we have waiting for us. 1. Changing planes in Frankfort, Germany and not the US. 2. No seats have been assigned to us for the first leg of our flight from Orlando. So we may not sit together. 3. There are continents on this trip we’ve never set foot on. 4. The volume of visa’s needed. 5. Seven different currencies. 6. An ocean view balcony room when we have always been on deck two with an inside room. 7. This ship is the largest one we have...

May 14, 2018 - Getting Ready

It is a little over a month until we all leave on this epic trip out west. We will be visiting many places that Susan and I have been, but it will be a first time for Elisabeth, Pete and Jack and Tuck. Right now we are getting our Motor Home ready. We took it on a shake down trip to Myrtle Beach and boy did it shake down. We have along list of things that need to be fixed. A broken slide, broken levelers, oil change, generator that only starts when we are plugged in-- that helps a lot! Pete and Elisabeth bought a new Class C and are adding...

Jul 24, 2017 - Home after 8500 miles

Well we arrived home yesterday after traveling about 8500 miles and being gone almost exactly 9 weeks. We spent three days in North Carolina with Christian and his wife and two kids. We really had fun hanging out with them, but boy was it hot and humid in NC. Christian said he was trying to condition us for our return to Florida. It had been awhile since we had seen Adalyn and Carter and boy have they grown. Very nice and polite children. Both were getting ready for Vacation Bible study this week-- Mom and Dad too! Our trip was really...

Jun 30, 2015 - Almost ready

Well we are making final preparations for the big trip. Waiting on the arrival of the spare tire. Were promised it would be here yesterday, now suppose to be ready for pick up at noon today. Hope he is right. I really don't want to travel over 10,000 miles with no spare! Have to get Princess bathed today and pick up some money and load the remaining stuff. I am sure we will forget something, but from the amount of stuff we have already put in the RV, I don't know what it would be. We are planning on leaving early tomorrow and hopefully...

Feb 6, 2014 - Florida Update

I wanted to bring you all up to date on our life here in Florida. We have been here since January 6th and really have enjoyed this area. While we were planning on leaving here today, we have postponed moving on to the Gulf Shores. The short version is that we are in the process of buying a villa on a golf course in a gated community called Spruce Creek South which is on the edge of Lady Lake Florida and borders The Villages. The long story is there are many reasons why we are doing this. One, I needed a home base if anything happened to...

Jan 21, 2014 - Happy New Year

Happy New Year from the Glasses in sunny, although not to warm, Florida. After spending 8 weeks in South Carolina with our son Torrey and his family, we had time to visit plantation homes, golf a number of courses, enjoy family cook outs, and eat southern cuisine. By being in one place for a period of time, we were able to use our Silver Sneaker membership at the Sumter YMCA. On January 3, we left for the south hoping for warmer weather and less rain. We went via Savannah, Georgia and St. Augustine, the oldest city in the US. Savannah was...
