Dec 5, 2017 - Shingle Creek

There are lots of letterboxes planted in the Orlando area and while I was out looking for some of them, I found the Shingle Creek Reserve. It tells of the early days here (around 1910!) and how this creek got its name. Residents cut cypress trees and made shingles for roofs. They were transported across and down the creek - hence the name! I came back here with my kayak and also hiked around the grounds looking for 4 letterboxes. I found one and believe hurricane Irma wasn't very friendly to the rest. Since I got on the creek after lunch, I...

Apr 24, 2016 - Not like it used to be

From the beach we headed west back toward Orlando, to stay in Kissimmee for the weekend. We got there on Friday and I wanted to go over to what I remembered as Disney Marketplace, which is outside the theme park but still part of the complex. There are no rides or shows (and no entrance fee), but some great shopping and dining and of course great people watching. When we got close we realized there were no signs for Disney Marketplace or Downtown Disney, but the signs pointing to where we wanted to go all said Disney Springs. There was...

Mar 20, 2016 - Along the Atlantic

Kissimmee, FL Today was a travel day so there were few activities. Whenever possible, we avoid interstates for the sake of slower, picturesque roads that offer interesting diversions along the way. This time we chose SRA1A. State Road A1A is a north-south Florida State Road that runs mostly along the Atlantic Ocean. It is the main road through most oceanfront towns. Part of SR A1A is designated the A1A Scenic and Historic Coastal Byway, a National Scenic Byway. The description reads “This mostly two-lane roadway abounds with white, sandy...

Keys to the South

Oct 15, 2015 - Thursday Kissimmee FL

We have returned to Port Canaveral to bid farewell to Carnival Sensation. The morning is very nice today because it is not raining and the sun is out. We could have had our luggage picked up from the room last night which means we would not get off the ship until after 10 am. Chip decided that we would take our luggage off ourselves, which I wondered how that would work. Well, it turned out great. We docked at 7:00 am and we were in the motorhome by 8 am. Customs was very fast, which surprised me, thought they would want to open all our...

2015 Family Cruise

Sep 21, 2014 - Day 16

Hello Again, Well another day of theme park magic as this time we travelled out to Universal Studios to spend the day at Islands of Adventure, possibly the best of the Florida theme parks. And we did not waste anytime getting stuck into it as we headed straight to The Hulk Roller Coaster for a little over two minutes of stomach churning twists, turns and loops all whist being strapped into a plastic seat like a human bobble head. This is such a great ride, even though it scares the crap out of you watching it, it is actually so fast that it...

Sep 20, 2014 - Day 15

Hey Everyone, With yesterdays drive behind us and the weather improving, we hopped in the car and made our way out to Walt Disney World for a visit to Disney's Animal Kingdom. A little different to most of the Disney parks, Animal Kingdom offers a cross between theme park and zoo and surprisingly they have managed to get the mix about right with heaps of animal attractions that allow you to get up close to animals such s rhino, giraffe, lion and many other African species, whilst incorporating the normal Disney charm. We spent around 4...

Sep 19, 2014 - Day 14

Hi Everyone, Well after last nights great meal, we had little time to digest it as we were up early to leave Mobile by 8am for our longest drive of the trip all the way to Kissimmee in Florida. So off we went through Alabama and into Florida before making a stop in Tallahassee for a visit to the Tallahassee Auto Museum where we spent some time viewing one of the best car collections we had ever seen. The collection highlights included a classic 1957 Chevy convertible, 1948 Tucker and the horse drawn hearse that carried the body of President...

ORANGE GROVE RV PARK, KISSIMMEE, FL. MONDAY It was after 9 this morning when my feet hit the deck. Two days at Sea World had pretty well used us. Edie was up shortly after. With breakfast over it was time to make some reservations for the next couple stops. Tomorrow we will be moving to Lion Country Safari near West Palm Beach. There is a KOA there and that will be our yard for the next three nights. Then we head on South to Marathon, Fl in the keys. We hope to make a side trip to Key West from there. After lunch today we visited...

Apr 13, 2014 - Back to Sea World

ORANGE GROVE RV PARK, KISSIMMEE, FL. SUNDAY We were both able to get out of bed this morning, which was quite an accomplishment after the amount of walking we did yesterday. Maybe we are in better shape than we thought. After breakfast, I went to Walgreens to pick up my prescriptions while Edie was washing her hair. A few more stink bugs bit the dust. We decided we would go back to Sea World on our free tickets and check out some things we missed yesterday. Upon arrival, I discovered that I had forgot to bring the camera, but did have my...

ORANGE GROVE RV PARK, KISSIMMEE, FL. SATURDAY Awoke to another pretty day this morning. We both slept in until almost 9. After breakfast, we killed a few more stink bugs..looks like we will probably have to have the coach fumigated when we get home. We messed around till lunch time and after lunch, took off for Sea World. The temp was in the high 70's and skies clear. It was just a 9 mile drive from the park. I found a handicap parking spot in an aisle close to the gate, but it was a long walk to the end of the aisle. I took my cane...

Apr 11, 2014 - Not much happening

ORANGE GROVE RV PARK, KISSIMMEE,FL FRIDAY It was after 0830 when we piled out this morning. Like, moving wore us out again...hehe. The furnace was running again for a while, temps in the 50's, but soon warmed up to a pleasant low 80's. Nice weather, few clouds and light breeze. Friday is pill day for me...filled all my pill boxes for the week and placed an order at Walgreens for 3 refills. There is a Walgreen store withing 3 miles of our park. We spent some time on the computer checking out the theme parks and were somewhat set aback at...

Apr 10, 2014 - To the land of Disney

ORANGE GROVE RV PARK, KISSIMMEE, FL THURSDAY The alarm and and my cell phone buzzing, went off together this morning. So I was out of bed at 0740. The phone was advising me of an Amber alert. Check out time is 1100. Didn't want to pay by the hour after that. I woke Edie about 8 and she was getting up while I ate breakfast. It was about 54 degrees outside, so the furnace was running. After breakfast, I got on the computer and checked the route to this park, on my map program and Google Earth. The directions to get in here are a little...
