Feb 16, 2014 - Jonathan Dickinson

Our last stop in Florida is Jonathan Dickinson State Park on the Atlantic coast between Jupiter and Hobe Sound. There are two separate campgrounds in this huge park that was once a military installation during WWII where the relatively new science of radar was being tested and taught. We stayed in the new section called Pine Grove which was rebuilt after a devastating hurricane cleared the foliage. There are few pine trees on the property where the campsites are and it will be a long time before the existing trees grow back to provide...

Depart: Orlando Arrive: Jupiter, Florida Campground: West Jupiter Camping Resort We had a short drive today through the middle of Florida, quiet highway. We got to the new campground in time to do all the chores that need to be done even when on holidays, laundry, cleaning inside of the trailer and Ray had a big job on the outside of the truck and trailer. We came 1st came across these little bugs in Charleston called Love Bugs and between Orlando and here we came across thousands of them (a love bug storm), so many we could barely see out...

Mar 22, 2013 - Jupiter

We arrived at David’s house in Florida and were welcomed by David’s youngest children, Gavin (14) and Annie (11) and not forgetting his 2 cats, Sammy and Ally. Since David took up his new post in Charleston last month, his children have been going to the house to look after the cats. The kids were pleased to tell us that although we were not due to take them up to Charleston until Saturday that their mum was happy for them to stay with us for the week before as long as they could get to school. We were happy to have them with us but not so...

Nov 17, 2012 - Day 123 - around Jupiter, Florida

Well it had to happen sooner or later, my innards are not happy this morning. Garry went off to find a drug store and some Imodium to get me back on my feet and keep me out of the bathroom. After lunch I was feeling better so we drove over to Jupiter Beach and watched the surfers again. This coastline is obviously the surfers haven. We walked along the beach and sat and soaked up some sun for a while. We then drove south to Juno Beach, same beach, same coastline, but only a couple of surfers. There must be a reason that they prefer one...

The Wandering Nunns

Nov 16, 2012 - Day 124 - South to Jupiter, Florida

We took the RV into the service center for our 10:00 am appointment, and we sat in the car reading while they did their checks. We went for lunch at the Jukebox Cafe about 11:30 am. This cafe is decorated with fifties memorabilia and serves great egg salad sandwiches and broccoli cheese soup. As we were coming out, our RV pulled up beside us ready to go. They had fixed the awning, putting in a screw that had never been put in in the first place as Garry suspected and fixed the slide floor so it would not jam as well. Very satisfied...

The Wandering Nunns

Feb 12, 2011 - Jonathan Dickenson State Park

Jupiter is great!  We have had just amazing weather since we have been here.  We are getting into our usual camping routine-exercise, biking, golf, walking the dogs, eating drinking, sleeping, etc.   What makes Jupiter special?  Is it the houses?  The beach? The weather?   Hard to say.  But life was a breeze there.  We were able to get around effortlessly.  Everything was close by.  The people were very nice.  The camp ground was great.

Finding Warmth!

Jan 14, 2011 - Visit to Jupiter - The Town

Today was a busy day. Busy by our new standards of busyness. I went out shopping this morning looking for a light weight jacket that I can wear when it is cool and I am dressed up. I didn't find much available but, finally, after looking in four stores, I found two wraps that I liked. Besides seeing jackets that are for much younger women, I also found one of the stores had wool jackets. I guess that is for folks who are headed north this time of year. Anyway, I returned home by noon feeling successful. In short order, we left for the town...

Nov 1, 2010 - Jonathan Dickinson State Park

We arrived at this state park early in the afternoon because we had come up from Lion Country Safari park. I was glad to be able to go to bed at night and not have to hear those big cats roaring all time of the night. It is nice to hear this for a few hours but when it happens all day and night then it gets to be to much. We got to the state park early in the day to be able to see all of the park. We like to spent at least two days at any park. This park was a army base during WW II, they have a sign that tells you about the base. You can...

Today we went out to Peanut Island. This is a Palm Beach County operated park just off the coast of Singer Island aka Riviera Beach. Looking out from Sailfish Marina all you could see was boats, hundreds of boats. So many that you could literally walk from one boat to the other. These were people just enjoying the sun and swimming off their boats. Access to Peanut Island is by shuttle boat at $10 per person, which we took. On the island it’s self you can tent camp, sun bath or just walk around the island which was what we did. It was so...

We got to Irma Jean’s this morning at 9am and she fixed breakfast - eggs, toast, orange juice & fruit. After that she showed us the town, taking us down to Palm Beach along the water to see all the stars homes, we walked along the beach, walked on Worth Av. and then to The Gardens Mall for some shopping. For supper we had a real Italian meal of sausage, ribs, meatballs, homemade sauce & pasta. Everything was so good, but just too much food!
