Mar 22, 2020 - The Party's Over

Well, the party is over. With everything that is going on and things changing by the minutes, it's been decided to head for home and ride things out from there. So this morning we pulled up stakes and headed out of Vero Beach and up I-95. We're going to cover about 200 miles a day and just head home without anything more than overnight stops. It's been a good trip even with all the extra expenses we managed to run up. We had a few more highlights planned and it is a bit disappointing, but we'll manage. Hopefully things will be better in a...

Winter 2019-2020

Oct 18, 2019 - Equestrian complex

We arrived at the Equestrian campground and it's barely occupied, mainly by full timers in the west section. So glad we got them to change us to spot 39, open for satellite and spacious. Spot 18 they put us in first would not have been good at all. There is a 4H event here Friday and Saturday but due to rain we didn't check it out. Went to the tag office and Sams and got into heavy congestion - this is a big city. Saturday we went to the Apple store to get a case and glass protector for Ray's new phone. What a zoo. A really large shopping...

Aug 1, 2019 - Christy has to work ☹️

Daddy is in charge, so no pics, no stories! They walked down Ocean Blvd to Massengale Park where we used to go to the beach when we were kids. Tim said it was disgusting, funky water, debris all over the sand. I do think I remember it that way. We are now so spoiled by our Florida beaches! 𯌴 There was someone riding a horse on the beach and Cali got to pet it. I think it rained a lot but they did get to swim. I worked all day and came home to hungry kitties and three loads of laundry.

Aug 19, 2018 - Invited to blog for The Trek (2019 PCT)

I was feeling discombobulated and restless after a few days back in Jacksonville and wrote a short piece and, impulsively, submitted it to a hiker site called The Trek. Surprisingly, the editor responded quickly and said he would publish it and then asked me if I would blog next year when we tackle the PCT hike (Pacific Crest Trail - Mexico to Canada). Of course, flattered, I said yes! Here is a link to my current post on The Trek. ** Plz copy & paste following link ** https://thetrek.co/appalachian-trail/not-hiking-harder-than-hiking/

Apr 18, 2018 - Catching up with the Bonds

After a brief "Walmart" stop on the 17th we arrived in Jacksonville. Camped at the Kathryn Hanna Abbey Park run by the city. Great place. We were able to entertain the Bonds a couple of time in the park... it was convenient to the Mayport Naval station where Arthur is assigned as the Chief Engineer on the USS Lassen, a guided missle destroyer. Arthur is the son (one of twins) of Al and Liz Bond.... Al and I served together in the Navy back in the 70s. We had a great time with the whole family as Al and Liz were visiting as well. Had dinner...

Feb 4, 2018 - Day 5 - (final) Green Cove Springs to JAX. 41 miles

Had a nice breakfast at the inn and I wish I could have stayed longer to talk to the owners, whom were friendly and interesting. But off by 9 am. Cool and drizzly - the weather report was severe and predicted a hard rain all day. Since I hadn’t brought our NICE rain gear - foolishly relying on the forecast for sunny days when we left Jax 5 days previously - we coughed up $2 and bought ponchos at a dollar store. And that was enough to keep the rain away until we reached home. 5 minutes later it started to pour! We also had a nice wind from...

Oct 19, 2017 - Motorcycles going to daytona

We are at the Jacksonville Equestrian Center that is well west of town but has nice large sites, we are at one of the 50 amp sites. There is a 4H horse show this weekend and we are able to walk around and see the horses and riders practicing. The barns for the horses and first rate. Jim and Mary Lou came to the park and we watched several of the competitions, then went to dinner. They have commitments the rest of the weekend. We went to the Base and also saw the go cart track where Ray used to compete. Also checked out what has happened at...

Jul 15, 2017 - New York to Jacksonville

We leave NY today and fly to Jacksonville Florida. We were advised to get to the airport early as it is summer holidays here and there is also a lot of construction at Laguardia airport because they are building a new terminal. We arrive with plenty of time to spare so we managed to pass the time easily watching the Crows Melbourne game on the WatchAFL app Justin gave us access to. It made the time waiting around for the flight go so much faster. We picked up our car at the airport at 3.30pm but it has been a very stressful afternoon. For a...

May 8, 2017 - Training rides Jacksonville area

We will be leaving Friday for Kitty Hawk NC. Trying to get in 50 miles a day while we explore Jacksonville. Nice variety from very urban to very rural. First dog chasing us down one country road, will have to get sticks to tie to the bikes for self-defense.
