Mar 20, 2016 - River's Edge RV Park

After leaving Old Pavilion RV Park at Keaton Beach, we traveled North and West to see Hazel's aunt and her family near Panama City, staying at Pine Lake RV Park nearby in Fountain, Florida. We did this exact thing before in 2011. Hazel's aunt is in her mid-80's, lives a very short distance from her son and his family, so we visited with everyone in one trip. While Hazel and I have been very lucky when it comes to health issues, this family has not, including kidney failure and dialysis, and after a healthy discussion about being unhealthy,...

Jan 19, 2015 - Blackwater River S.P.

Just a quick stop on our way out of Florida. We generally travel 4-5 hours at a time, or a full tank of gas. This just happened to be our destination that we found en route, and just in time to stop and watch the Green Bay and Patriots football games! We had to unhook the camper and travel to Milton, Florida, which is a lot more populous than Holt where the State Park is. That's about a 20 minute drive, but we were able to find a couple different places that had the NFL games on TV. We are also in a different time zone now, putting us an...

Our Road Trip

Oct 14, 2014 - Holt, FL

Another position change notice. We came down this way to get off the I-20 corridor, which just got hammered by the winter front the past couple of days. Just after arriving here all hell broke loose here, all through the night. Seemed to clear this morning so we go going at 10:00 CST.

Apr 15, 2014 - Long Travel Day.....

From Eagles Landing RV Park – Holt, FL Hitching up required high top rubber boots due to the rain that fell yesterday afternoon and into the evening and the area of the site that was not gravel was a slushy muddy mess. Then the windy 46 degree aspect of the weather this morning did not find its way onto the good side of the ledger either! But we did manage to get away about 9:30 a.m. Little did we know it would end up being 331 miles and just short of 8 hours before we bedded down for the night. The high cross winds followed us the entire...

Home Sweet RV - 2014

Feb 23, 2014 - Sun. Day:131

Feb. 23, 2014 - Day 131 So we are awakened this Sun. morning at 3 AM by the sound of thunder rolling into the area then the pitter patter of raindrops which changed to drum drum on the roof of the trailer. Lo & behold I get up to more rain & the Men's Gold Medal Ice Hockey game on & what a relief to know that the Montreal Habs Goalie; Carey Price; was between the pipes & I could then enjoy my breakfast & know the Gold Medal was the Canadian's. Well it pretty much rained all day & we pretty much did nothing; a couple of movies, reading,...

Feb 22, 2014 - Sat. Day:130

Feb. 22, 2014 - Day 130 One of the things that I forgot about yesterday was that we saw the New Orleans #1 Graveyard on the corner of Basin & St. Louis St.; all the graves were above the ground but we were in the cab & saw it as we passed by. So it's Sat. & we're leaving New Orleans, LA for Holt, FL plus it's 7:45 AM & we are hoping to get through the city & across the I-10 Twin Span Causeway before rush hour traffic. Well; "The I-10 Twin Span Bridge, a nearly 6 mile causeway known locally as the Twin Spans, consists of two parallel trestle...

May 9, 2013 - Slidell, La. to Holt, Florida

We drove from Slidell, La., to Holt, Florida, a distance of 202 miles. We finally arrived in Florida! We are camped on the edge of the Yellow River, in the Pan Handle area of Florida, in a small community called Holt. We are not staying at the Elks on this stop, we are at Rivers Edge RV Park. This is a beautiful park with large trees and a fantastic view of the Yellow River. We will rest here for a few days, and then move deeper into Florida. Mike and Nancy

Travels In Serenity

Oct 20, 2012 - Day 3, final leg, Poteau, Okla to HOME BASE (475 nm)

We've never burned our tanks as low as we did on this leg. Used 31 gallons of 37 useable. We knew our burn-rate (7.5 gals/hour) so we knew that even if our ancient fuel tank gauges read LOW we had fuel in there. But, it made us a bit nervous. We kept aware of nearby diverts toward the end of this leg. Sure was good to turn final within gliding distance and dive into Yellow River Airport (fd93). End of a great summer with 30 mph tailwinds all the way home.

May 5, 2011 - Old Man River

What a great day we had! We went on a canoe trip 4.5 miles down the Blackwater River. We had never heard of a sandy bottom river before. The sand in the river bed and on the banks are the sugar white sand you see in the Florida Panhandle. This is a pristine river, so clean and not developed. This is a step back in time to what Florida once was like. We stopped and picnicked on one of the many beaches along the way. The whole trip from the time we put in to shoring the canoe was about 2.5 hours. A couple of items of note: yet another couple...

May 4, 2011 - Hangin'

We just hung out yesterday. Didn't even start the big honkin' dually. Our camper continues to be a magnet. Had three people stop by. One couple lives in Jacksonville Beach Fl. which is next door to our planned retirement home in Neptune Beach (small world). It will be interesting to catch up with them when this all ends whenever that may be. Even smaller world, the other person who stopped by camped with us at Cedar Key Fl about 6 weeks ago. Shirley rested her very bruised foot, we caught up on things, solved an insurance problem with our...

May 3, 2011 - It's Official!!

We are Florida residents!! Yesterday was a work day in Crestview Fl 23 miles from our camp in Blackwater River State Park. First we picked up our mail and then dropped Shirley off to the library with the computer while I tracked down how to register the big honkin' dually, get drivers licenses and register to vote. After getting lost trying to find the tax collectors office I finally came upon it and voila the big honkin'' was registered with Florida tags. We stopped for lunch in a very nice historic downtown Crestview then on to the...

May 2, 2011 - Camping at Blackwater River State Park

The campground is neat and so is the Blackwater River. The river has a sandy bottom, white beaches and large sandbars. On our way to Crestview, we saw this really great tree sculpture on a large farm. Trevor and I met yet another friend, The Whiz Kid, while visiting the Crestview Library!
