May 1, 2018 - Hobe Sound, FL

Tue, 01 May A real travel day... Today we actually put some real (as in, more than two) miles on our coach. We relocated from the Thousand Trails park in Wauchula to the Jonathan Dickinson State Park in Hobe Sound. It has been a long time since we put some miles behind us—and it felt good! We'd prepared things for the road yesterday afternoon so getting ready this morning wasn't too big a deal. Bob pulled the coach out of our site and we connected the car, checked brakes and lites, and rolled wheels around 0845. As is our usual...

May 9, 2016 - Hobe Sound, FL

Mon, 09 May: Heading east to the ocean... After spending the past two plus months at the Thousand Trails Peace River park in Wauchula Florida, Carpe Diem finally hit the road. Today's drive was 125 miles, mostly on Florida state routes. While most of the drive was relaxing one section had Sandi's hands "white-knuckled" for most of the forty miles. We left Peace River at 0900 and drove a short distance south on US 17 to FL 66, which we took east toward Sebring. FL 66 is a nice state highway with wide lanes and an adequate shoulder. At US 27...

Jan 19, 2016 - Moving south from New England into Florida

It is December 20th today and we are in Hobe Sound Florida at ‘Floridays RV Park’. It is time to catch up and share our experiences since we left DC on October 4, 2015. Due to the flooding in the Dakota’s near the coast, we decided to travel inland and down the Blue Ridge. As you may recall from the previous update, we were in Washington DC during the two consecutive storms, one from the SE, Hurricane Joaquin, and one from the west. We were glad to be leaving, though we enjoyed our visit, trapped in the trailer for a few days of intensive...

Jan 6, 2015 - Jan 5th

Today we woke early, 7:10. We went into Hobe Sound to try and get the truck fixed. First we stopped at an Advanced Auto store. We asked to have our alternator checked. However when we opened the hood and started the engine it was obvious that the noise was coming from something other than the alternator. It seemed more like the power steering pump. We asked the Advanced Auto fellow for a recommendation for the repair he suggested Stoney's located a ¼ mile down the road. Stoney's was quite impressive. They diagnosed the truck problem and...

Jan 5, 2015 - Jan 4th

Today we woke up ready for what would come. After a while we got on the bikes and headed for the river about 5 miles away on our bicycles. We arrived and tried to get on the WiFi at the Store by the river. We had no luck there as the reflections on the computer screen were more than we could see through. We decided to go fishing. We fished in the river for several hours. Sally saw what she described as angel fish, and then went to fish activity constantly However we only caught 1crab in 3 hrs of fihing. We then went to another WiFi hotspot...

Today we woke in the WalMart parking lot in Sanford Florida. I had runout of an important medication and needeed a refill soon. We headed to the WalMart pharmacy as soon as it opened. We were told it wouldn,t be ready till about noon. We walked around the store then back to the RV for breakfast and the wait, however soo came a phone call saying it was ready!! The pharmacist had filled the pescription, giving us priority. Good!! Soon we were on our way about 10 o'clock. We gave the next address to the GPS and away we went. I think the GPS...

Mar 29, 2014 - Back in Hobe Sound

After a short stay at Lion Country Safari, we moved back to Hobe Sound where we started our stay in January. It was like a homecoming. We knew where all the stores were located as well as our favorite beach. The neighbors from January were still here and welcomed us back. We do love this area! We have been walking the beach almost every morning, hunting for treasures that the waves may have deposited on the sand overnight. Sometimes it is windy and sometimes it is cloudy but it is always lovely. The best is being able to walk in the water...

Jan 29, 2014 - Great day at Hobe Sound Beach

Not to rub it in, but is sure is nice to be warm down in Florida. With the rest of the country in a deep freeze, 82 degrees at the beach is pretty nice! We spent a good part of today at Hobe Sound Beach, just 2 miles from our RV park. Our friend, Sue, met us there and we walked north on the beach for about a mile. Once we settle in, Mike proceeded to test the waters and see if the flies he had tied would work. He has been researching different fishing flies for the waters in the area and has spent hours tying them in the RV. Now, we see if...

Jan 18, 2014 - Blue Marlin Motors, Stuart, FL

We visited a unique car dealer in Stuart. Keep in mind that this is just a couple of towns over from where there are many, many celebrities. Hence the high prices. Seriously overpriced. But it was sure fun to wander about and check them out. The celebrities live on Jupiter Island which is actually a part of Hobe Sound. Check out Wikipedia at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jupiter_Island,_Florida Here is a short quote from the page: "Notable residents: Professional golfers Gary Player, Tiger Woods and Nick Price live in Jupiter Island, as do...

Jan 16, 2014 - Lazing around Florida

What a week we have been enjoying! We spent one day cruising north of here, checking out other RV parks. Now our park is very "modest" but the location is superb and the price even better. Still, it is fun to see what else is out there. Phipps park is a county park just a bit up the road. Nice sites and right along the Okeechobee Waterway. They have a very limited number of sites with electric but plenty of non-hookup sites for dry camping. Right next door is the Army Corps of Engineer campground at the locks on the waterway. Wow! Great...

Jan 15, 2014 - Going To Hobe Sound

We left Kissimmee Prairie Preserve state park and headed over to Jonathan Dickinson state park near Hobe Sound, Florida. The park is sand hills with scrubs and low growing plants, with some high grass. This park holds the Geocaching event each year around this time of the year. They hide over 180 cans and containers along the miles and miles of trails. We are driving down the road to see the river side campground and to see if we knew anybody that had come in early for the event. After seeing a few people and talking with them about...

GEOCACHING 2014

Jan 10, 2014 - Storm!

Last night we had the strongest storm that we have ever rode out in our Trek. A strong storm cell settled on top of the area and would not leave. It rained and rained and rained. The wind blew and blew and blew! At one point we heard a loud bang and the power went out. It was lightning and thundering. After an hour or so, the power company showed up and restrung some lines and got the lights on again. When all was said and done, we had about 10 inches of rain and the winds were about 45 MPH. Scariest of all is the report that a tornado...
