Oct 28, 2018 - Home near Green Cove Springs, FL

We made it back home Sunday afternoon after a 295 mile trip from Ozark, AL to our place not far from Green Cove Springs, FL. The whole trip was in bright sunshine for a change! We did see lots of damage from Hurricane Michael once we got a little south of Dothan, AL all the way to Tallahassee, FL. Lots of buildings with tarps, blown out and damaged signs and down trees everywhere. We saw some fields where hundreds of pine trees were all snapped off about 8-10 feet high. The oaks trees are stronger but have shallow root systems so they just...

Apr 4, 2018 - 'Twas the night before departure and way in the back yard...

The Mothership is waiting under the moon's bright guard. : Waste tanks empty and fuel tank full of diesel, just anticipating the rush from the push of a pedal. : She has two new front shoes all raring to go, with pressure so high it couldn't be called low. : The groceries were new and stored in their slots, all ready for travel so they could go at least 50 knots. : The new Instant Pot had found a new home, snugged under the table so it wouldn't roam. : Everything else has found its own place, and has been placed inside at quite a pace. : We...

Feb 3, 2018 - Day 4 - Cross Creek to Green Cove Springs 59 miles

Cool early 730 start. Straight up FL 325 to the Hawthorne trail - can’t believe the GPS took us on those dreadful sand backroads getting to Cross Creek. Saw plenty of deer. Retraced our ride back to Melrose then went north. All ok on ride except for dreadful 15 mph headwinds virtually the whole day. Rode through Penney Farms which was started by JC Penney as a retirement community in the 1930s. Staying in a beautiful guesthouse in Green Cove Springs - our only lodging choice but well worth it. Will get some photos of the area tomorrow...

Oct 26, 2015 - HOME - Final Expense Summary

We arrived Thursday afternoon after a 325 mile trip from Troy, AL to our home near Green Cove Springs, FL. I have tabulated the expenses for our 200 day trip and they are listed below. They were quite a bit lower this year mostly due the lower fuel costs, less eating out and less Mothership repairs. Campground fees were higher this year mostly due to where we stayed - Columbia Falls and St. Mary, MT, though not the highest daily rate had a much higher average and we stayed in those two for almost three months total. Final Expense...

Apr 5, 2015 - Mothership on Launchpad - Countdown Begins!!

Another Summer trip begins tomorrow!! Doris now has another new hip with the left one replaced on 12/30/2014 and is now known as the Bionic Woman with three major surgeries in the last two years. She is now full of titanium but has finished all rehab and is ready to hit the road. The tax season is over (at least for me), the house has been prepared for our absence; the paper stopped; the mailed forwarded; the credit card companies notified; and the Mothership is sitting on the launch pad just outside our front door, fully loaded and...

We arrived Wednesday afternoon after a 209 mile trip from Albany, GA to our home near Green Cove Springs, FL. I have tabulated the expenses for our 210 day trip and they are listed below. They were a little higher this year mostly due the higher costs associated with traveling along the left coast of this great country. Campgrounds and food were notably higher than other parts of the country. We also encountered a little higher repairs on the Mothership mostly due to the failed transmission keypad. Final Expense Summary: RV Fuel -...

Jun 1, 2013 - All over but the shouting...

Started out a hot, windy day at Pelican's Roost with big plans to do some tank maintenance before heading home after the final weekend of this trip. Jeanne woke up in a domesticated mood and decided to bake some blueberry muffins - our convection oven does a great job with those. After the first batch...POP...everything shuts down and we realize that we've become so comfortable living in the RV the past 50-odd days we forgot to lighten the electrical load by shutting down one of the two A/C units, resulting in blowing a transfer switch on...
