Nov 4, 2014 - Florida Round 2

After Christopher's rousing performance in Cinderella and our great visit with Buddy Bob, we decided that we loved Florida so much we would explore the panhandle during the winter (as opposed to August). We headed directly south, spending a few hours on the Natchez Trail in Tennessee, stopping to pay tribute to Meriweather Lewis' gravesite. The subject of much controversy, Lewis appeared to suffer from mental illness (my diagnosis, bipolar) and his death was probably due to a suicidal gunshot wound. As we toodle around in the eggplant,...

Rumsky Retirement?

Mar 27, 2013 - Ft. Walton Beach, FL

3/27/13, Wednesday Before departing Pensacola, we drove downtown to the offices of S*M*A*R*T (Special Military Active-Retired Travel Club) and joined up. We were told about this organization by a fellow retired military man while we were staying at Keesler AFB in Biloxi, MS. The group has chapters throughout the USA and also has a Nomads chapter (for people like us who are on the road a LOT but still have a home) and a Full-timers chapter. It was a short drive to our destination at Eglin AFB in Fort Walton Beach, FL. It was a very beautiful...

May 27, 2011 - wintering in Florida

Greetings Everyone, After leaving the Smoky Mountains we headed straight for the warmth of Florida. We spent three weeks in Port Richy, Fl. This is a small town on the gulf about 35 miles NE of Tampa. While exploring the area, we discovered Honeymoon Island SP in Dunedin. The 2,810 acre park offers swimming, fishing, and nature trails that wind through the pine and mangrove forests. The island received its name in 1939 when New York developer purchased the island and together with LIFE magazine, held a contest for newly married couples....

Janice's Journey

Dec 25, 2009 - New Orleans, LA to Fort Walton Beach, FL

Day 2: Life is a beach!!! I woke up early today to go to Christmas mass at St. Louis Cathedral, the oldest cathedral in continual use in the US. It’s a beautiful place. The priest started out the mass by saying, in a very serious way: “I want to thank everyone for not being tackled on my way to the altar”, which was pretty hilarious. For those who didn’t see, a crazy woman did tackle the Pope on his way to the altar on Christmas mass, so there we go. Also a guy fell asleep in church and he was snoring so loud that I couldn’t concentrate on...

Jun 7, 2009 - Summer has begun

Two months of hard core vacation await me. After working hard all year and listening about how some of us teachers might not have jobs next year, a good worry free vacation is just the ticket. This summer it starts with Honduras. Deborah and I leave tomorrow morning bright and early to go and see her honey. I dont know how much I will be able to access the internet down there, but I will put up pictures when I get back.

Summer 2009

Apr 27, 2008 - Our last stay at Nautilus!

A bitter sweet trip for sure. It is sad to say goodby to the place where all of us have had found memories. But for Pam and I it is also wonderful to say good by to all the headaches of condo ownership. We will miss it for sure but it gives us the freedom we have been looking for. Retirement now is on our terms, not tied to "if the condo sells". We look forward to the new freedom. Not sure exactly when we will retire but we have made one of the last steps required to make the move!

Feb 14, 2008 - Ft. Walton Beach

On the 13th we headed north and west. Our goal was Ft. Walton Beach where we had reservations in a Quality Inn. We drove fairly steady, but it still took most of the day to reach Ft. Walton. This was to be our longest driving day on the trip home. On the 14th we started the day with a trip to Eglin AFB. We drove around the base awhile and found a few areas/buildings we remembered, but a lot more we did not remember. The commisary and BX which had been on what I used to think of a the "main base" were now by the housing area on the other...
