Apr 23, 2014 - Ft Lauderdale

We headed to Ft Lauderdale/Miami area because the weather was looking pretty good for the possibility of a cruise. We had sort of been looking at taking a cruise for a while but had never 'locked it in'. When we got close to southern Florida we did a bit of searching around and booked a 7 day cruise to the Bahamas and the total cost was around $990 which included all meals and entertainment. We had to pay for any other trips around the appropriate ports of call which were not all that expensive. Shame the trip was so short.

Mar 8, 2014 - Royal Caribbean Oasis of the Seas

The Royal Caribbean’s flagship, Oasis of the Seas, is a magnificent ship and the newest and largest passenger ship in the world carrying over 6000 passengers. It offers 25 dining options, 9 action and adventure options, 6 different Las Vegas style shows, and ongoing fun and games activities. The seven day cruise we took didn’t give us time to experience everything in this virtual small town. Oasis of the Seas Photo 1,2 We were warmly greeted by Captain Trym Selvag; Martin Rissley, Hotel Director; and Edna Pili, Executive Housekeeper. Photo...

Jan 25, 2014 - Caribbean Cruise

We began 2014 with a visit to our new friends, John & Helen, to see their beautiful 10,000 sq ft home in Ormond Beach, Florida decorated for the holidays. They normally use five Christmas trees and over 18 boxes of decorations which put most of their neighbors to shame. It was really a beautiful sight to behold (I posted these photos separately at http://www.mytripjournal.com/travel-769024. We then drove to Edgewater, FL, stored the motor home, drove the Jeep to Fort Lauderdale, FL, stored it near the pier and then we were taken to the...

Jan 4, 2014 - Fort Lauderdale, Florida

1/4 We left the inn at 8:00AM after a quick breakfast and drove to the pier in Fort Lauderdale where we handed off our bags to be loaded aboard the ship. We drove the rental car to the Fort Lauderdale airport where we dropped it off and took a taxi back to the pier. We were aboard the ms Amsterdam by 1:00PM but the ship was not ready to leave until about 11:30PM. Our cabin was an inside cabin, #2660 on the Main Deck (deck 2). At dinner we met our tablemates for the first half of the trip: Joanie (Florida), Ned and Jolene (Kansas), Ed and...

Dec 18, 2013 - Ft. Lauderdale - Patriots Game & Boat Parade

Hello Everyone, Today we took a trip across Florida to Fort Lauderdale! There we met up with Chris & Paul McCarthy to have a weekend of fun! We did everything possible while there. We walked the 'strip' sampling beer at every establishment, laid out on the beach, went swimming in the infinity pool at the hotel...and that was just the fist day! On Saturday night we went to Flip Flops restaurant which is right on the Ft. Lauderdale intercostal waterway to have a great dinner and then to view the famous Boat Parade! This parade, usually shown...

Dec 13, 2013 - We've been cruising...Ship and Labadee (Part 1)

Hi all. The past week has been fantastic! Although we are cruise novices, this cruise would have to be the best in the world - well it is the biggest in the world anyway. The ship holds 6200 guests though there was only 5600 on board this week. As well as 2300 staff but it really doesn't feel crowded at all. It is really spacious and we haven't had to queue at all. We can walk into one of the 36 bars and get served straight away. There are so many pools that you can always get a sun chair in the best spot. The meals have been great, we have...

Dec 13, 2013 - Cruising Part 2 - Falmouth and Cozumel

Hi again Here are the other cruise photos of Falmouth and Cozumel. Also I have emailed family to let you know Matt's school results but not sure if the email got through. There seems to be 5600 people in this area wanting to use the internet at the same time! Anyway we're really proud of Matt for getting an OP 2 result which is hopefully enough for his first preference of Law/Commerce dual degree at Uni of Queensland. He is being his usual laidback and non-excitable self but he did say it hadn't really sunk in yet. He worked really hard and...

We arrived in the port at 0600 and we were off the boat and cleared customs by 0930. We had to wait for the others because there were about an hour behind us for clearing customs. Once we were all out the transportation that had been arranged was called and we were at the sirport around 1100 and our plane left for Dallas around 1230. We were flying on American Airlines ands they did not treat us the same way Air France did when we flew from San Francisco to Paris. It cost us $50.00 for two bags and they served on sofdt drinks on the plane.

Sep 23, 2013 - Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Depart: Key West, Arrive: Fort Lauderdale Campsite: Yacht Harbor Very scenic drive again today back up the keys. We decided to try the Florida Turnpike today rather than the slower highway 1. All was great until we ran into another typhoon type rain storm. Most of the traffic slows right done and turns on their 4 ways as at one point you could hardly see where you were going. Note I said most of the traffic slows down, there always has to be a few........... But we made it safe and sound to our campsite. The campsite is on a river and...

Apr 26, 2013 - sail away

After the required number of cruises/days sailed we are finally in the top classification - elite. This is supposed to mean that there are special lines for embarking that are shorter than ones for the riff raff who has not cruised with Princess as often. However, a lengthy cruise like this that has relatively few port stops tends to attract other cruise aficionados like us. Ironically, the elite lines were longer than the regular ones and the elite embarkation lounge was full by the time we got there. However, we ended up standing right by...

Apr 25, 2013 - cruise critic

Any cruiser worth his salt should make the Cruise Critic website a favorite/bookmark. The site contains reviews of all the cruise ships that Americans generally patronize. It has information about the ports, a search engine to find a future cruise. You can go on the site to find a last minute deal or cheap cruise. They have short cruises to nowhere and multi-month cruises around the world. They have articles about how to prepare for a cruise, planning, questions to ask a travel agent. The "News" section has short articles about what's new...
