May 9, 2017 - Leaving Englewood
Arrived back in Englewood from the wedding of our niece Andrea on a flight into Punta Gorda at 9 am, got back to the Motorhome by 10 and where on the rode by noon to begin our summer vacation. Our first stop was the Georgia welcome center just above Jacksonville, We were going to spend the night there, but got a pleasant surprise when our former next door neighbors Greg and Liz Krupa, drove up from Jacksonville and joined us for a couple of hours to hash over old times and catch up on current events. After they had to leave, we settled in...Jump to full entry
May 18, 2014 - HOME AGAIN !!!
Updated for last time....5/25/14 Finally got home early afternoon on Sunday. Glad to be here. Been a long trip. Nice to be back in shorts again! Scraped the bugs off the front of the car and got the mess cleaned out of the inside. Amazing what accumulates over six weeks of travel...both inside and outside.... Rest of the week was vacation from travel....lots of time snoozing on the lanai in the wonderful weather we've had this week. Finally got around to finishing this journal on Sunday AM before the races start this afternoon....another...Jump to full entry
May 16, 2014 - Preparing for the trip
Picture of the motorhome in the driveway as we load up our baby for the upcoming trip. We are lucky enough to have our motorhome parked next to the house for easy loading and unloading. We are leaving Monday afternoon, and are putting last minute items in the motorhome. AKA/ Cindy packing the complete house into motorhome.Jump to full entry
Apr 5, 2014 - 4/5/14 at home
Well here we go again! Working on last minute preparations and packing for a trip to the Southwest and California. This will cover some of the places we would have liked to see on our way back from Alaska a few years ago. After three months on the road we lost some enthusiasm and longed for some home time. Just getting around to "finishing" the trip. This time we'll be taking our car instead of the truck camper. Less chores for me to do and lots better mileage (30 - 35 vs 10 with the truck). We plan on being gone for 4 to 6 weeks but have...Jump to full entry
Dec 15, 2012 - Myakka State Forest
We belong to the trailwalker program in the state of florida, after you walk ten trails in 5 different state forest you get a patch for walking the trails. We like to walk the trails and get to see some nice water preserves in the area. You get to see birds and animals and at the same time can find some caches on the trail. There was about six ammo boxes hidden near the trail in the park, we walk about six miles today, had a great day.Jump to full entry
Aug 17, 2011 - Trip is done! Now for some rest....
Well...the trip is over! What a journey it was! Ann has done some traveling in the past and seen some of the great places in the US but I've rarely headed out to see this stuff before...certainly not on this scale. We have a wonderful network of National Parks with fantastic things to see. And the trip to get to them is lots of fun as long as you're able to toodle along and enjoy the ride. Once we "headed for the barn" the trip became a little more like drudgery as we burned up the miles to get here. Alaska was great. So many places and...Jump to full entry
May 13, 2011 - Alaska bound!!!
Leaving on our trip to Alaska this Friday 5/13/11 morning. This is our neighbor in Polynesian Village, Englewood, FL. As a "Mainer" from Millinockett, he and his wife Joan provided valuable information for our trip. They have been to Alaska many times in campers and knows the trip well. He would have liked to "stow away" with us but space would have been way too cramped!!! This is our last moment in Polynesian Village....finally all packed and "OUTTA HERE"!Jump to full entry
Mar 21, 2009 - Venice Area Audubon Rookery & Englewood Fine Arts Fair
The Kellys and we decided to go to the Englewood Fine Arts Festival. This yearly festival is held on Dearborn Street in historic downtown Englewood. There were many artisans displaying their works that covered the spectrum from handmade jewelry to landscape paintings. A new art form that caught our eyes was photographs printed on canvas; the process requires large, expensive printers and the artwork was priced accordingly. We bought a couple of pieces of pottery; one for baking bread and one for serving baked brie cheese. We searched and...Jump to full entry
Mar 20, 2009 - Visit with Paul & Rita Hemingway in Englewood, Florida
After our morning bike ride, we drove to Englewood, about five miles southwest of our campground, to visit Paul and Rita Hemingway. The Hemingways had both recently retired from New Jersey State jobs and relocated to this area of Florida where Paul’s parents had also retired. Paul was a childhood neighbor of Carol’s and uncle to Carol’s nephews, Scott and Mark. The Hemingways have recently completed building a great home, with many features that we immediately wished we had. We particularly liked the sliding glass doors which completely...Jump to full entry
Mar 8, 2008 - Good days in Englewood!
We checked out of the nice Sun and Fun campgrounds in Sarasota and headed for Englewood. Only about 30 miles south. We tried to find a nice, not to expensive, campground in Englewood, but that didn’t seem to be. So we stopped at Aunt Betty’s cottage to see what she had in mind when she told us we could stay in her neighbors front yard. Sure enough, Joe, the man across the street from her was ready and waiting for us. We parked parallel to the street in the middle of his front yard! He hardly had room to get his car out. We were sure...Jump to full entry
