Jul 19, 2020 - Friends and Family

The day Kaia was due to leave we left Fiesta Key and relocated to the Tavernier Elks, about 20 miles north of where we were. We had stayed there a few years ago and really enjoyed the setting and the lodge. After we got Kaia on her plane back to Texas, we spent 5 nights there using the beach that is part of the Elks property, reading, doing a bit of shopping and just relaxing. The Elks just hired a new chef who prepared some amazing meals but our favorite was the Sunday brunch. His food was so good we ate there just about every night; so...

Dec 28, 2013 - Happenings in Delray Beach since we arrived

Our boating has been limited to dinghy rides since the marina is too far from an inlet to allow us to go day sailing. However, we have stayed plenty busy. Our big events have been Thanksgiving in Miami with Ana’s family (32 at the table), Lily’s ballet performances in The Nutcracker, Lily and Kaitlyn performing in their school Christmas program, a visit from Karen's sister Margaret, Lily and Kaitlyn singing in the children’s choir for Christmas eve mass, Christmas morning with the kids, Christmas night dinner with the Gillis family (a...

Nov 12, 2013 - Arrived in Delray Beach

We were casting off lines and getting out of the slip by 0758. Fred backed Southerly out beautifully. We then had to wait for PGA bridge for 20 minutes. After that we made all bridges until Ocean Avenue without a wait. We were tied up in marina by 1330. We had a beer and relaxed. Then we showered and walked to the restaurant by the Atlantic Ave bridge for happy hour beer and food. The Delray Beach Yacht Club Marina will be our base for the next couple of months.

Jan 24, 2012 - At Home

We had a erudite group of traveling companions. Jon had been in government service during the Vietnam War, Janet has traveled to 109 countries, Roy has published a book on voting machines, Wendell has installed computor networks around the world, and Wilfred and Susan are in non profit fundraising. Rachel and Robert are lawyers, Shaun is a physician, Joan, a landscape architect, David, an investment banker who served as a marine in Vietnam. We all brought life and travel experiences. The diverse group became very congenial and most...

Jul 11, 2010 - Messing about in Boats

Sunday 11th July We have had a great day today (10/10 in the boys’ scoring chart), out on the intercoastal waterway on the East coast of Florida with my friend and former colleague Angie Burke, and her partner Dave, in their beautiful boat. Last night and early today had not been so good – all our luggage was lost somewhere between Atlanta and Miami. It was quickly found and put on a later flight, but that meant that it was after midnight when we picked it up, and then we had an hour’s drive north to Boca Raton and our hotel. The drive...

Dec 23, 2009 - Palm Beach to Delray Beach and Back to Jupiter

Well I told you that we planned on going to Worth Avenue yesterday and that is just what we did… West Palm has gotten even busier than I remember it but then so has all of Florida…. We found Worth Avenue without any trouble and the route we took meant we would get there via Royal Palm Blvd.. Oh how I remember this street.. It is one of my favorites in the whole world. I think you will agree when you see the pictures… It is lined with beautiful Royal Palm Trees all the way to the Ocean.. These trees are real tall and they have lights on...

Nov 13, 2008 - Major Decision Ahead

Once the Florida border had been achieved, we began to relax a bit. But that sense of comfort has proved to be an optical illusion. From here on we will be adjusting the course constantly to the west; the arc that worked to our favor thru the Carolinas and Georgia is no longer in effect. The option to turn right at Stuart and follow the St Lucie to Okeechobee to Caloosahatche and the Florida West Coast is an inviting one. This is especially so when you get to consider the plethora of timed bridge openings in the ICW ahead on the direct...

Jun 12, 2008 - Onto visit with my cousin

Thursday, June 12 The shield on my helmet broke (OK - I dropped it) so I decide to go through Fort Lauderdale looking for a bike shop. I find a Harley Davidson place but those who ride ‘these’ bikes don’t where helmets, particularly here in Florida as they are not mandatory. But they have thinner gloves and a bandana so I get them. Then onto Delay Beach to visit with my cousin Gareth and his wife Marie. Gareth comes home but has to go back to work, poor bugger and so I chill out for the afternoon. That evening we spend time getting to know...

Apr 24, 2008 - Delray Beach, FL

We chose Del-Raton RV Park because it is close to Nick's parents, who live in Boca Raton. This time "park" is the euphemism. Not only are we situated in the center of Delray Beach on a street lined with car dealerships, but there is nary a tree to be found in the RV park. Since most of the RV snowbirds have gone north for the summer by now, our "neighbors" are primarily the inventory of horse trailers the RV park has for sale. But as far a convenience goes, this place is tops. Beach, restaurants, movies and shopping are all nearby.
