Mar 9, 2014 - On the road to El Paso

Sunday March 9th, Our first stop after leaving Cedar Key, spent the night at a PA club campground in DeFunaik Springs Fl. Nice and quiet place by a small lake. Monday March 10th, Hammond La, another nice quiet PA campground by a River. Next night had to take pot luck with the G.P.S. pick, it was late and we were tired, campground was the worst one we have ever stayed in, it was outside of Houston, Tx. Mar 17, 2012 - Entering Florida

We drove from Mississippi, through Alabama and right into Northwest Florida. In Mobile Alabama we ran into lots of spring break students clogging up the highway. But they were all having a great time screaming and tooting their horns, especially through the Mobile tunnel. Nancy found this out of the way campground in De Funiak Springs, Florida. And boy it was out of the way. Do you remember the movie "Deliverance" with Burt Reynolds? Well, this is where they would do the remake. I was kind of curious why they told us on the phone not to...

Nov 28, 2010 - On the road again -

400 miles (so I can't sing the song "500 miles")east on I-10 brings me to the panhandle of Florida, but I am still in Central time. I actually like that time zone because the primetime shows are over at 10 PM. Nightline comes on at 10:35 instead of 11:35 PM! There is another motorhome right next to me tonight, so I don't know if I'll use the generator. I wonder how cold it will get here tonight! Dinner at Beef O'Brady's!

Dec 29, 2009 - De Funiak Springs, FL Sunset King Campground

Monday, December 29, 2009 We arrived in DeFuniak Springs, FL at the Sunset King Campground and remembered that this was the place where I learned how to make the pine needle baskets so I was excited about collecting more longleaf line needles. We stayed at Sunset King for 10 nights and it was so cold most of the time that I stayed in the motorhome and made another pine needle basket. Joe did get out golfing on two occasions when we first got here before it was just too cold. The coldest night here was 20 degrees and we had to leave our...

Rojoe 2009-2010

Jan 24, 2009 - De Funiak continued

I'm back. We've been having a great time visiting. Son-in-law Danny cooks nightly for all of us. Even after going to work in the middle of the night, working his shift and driving home {about a 40 minute drive each way). Tomorrow. our last day here, everyone is coming to the resort. Mark and his friend Gary are preparing dinner. I hear Gary cooks a tasty skirt steak. The weather is cooperating so it should be a great day. Thursday Mark drove us to Fort Walton Beach across Okaloosa Island and into Destin. We visited the Air Force Armament...

Jan 19, 2009 - Defuniak Springs

Arrived safe and sound on Saturday. Nice day. Set up and left for dinner with Mark and Penny at Penny's home. Great to see the kids. Good dinner. Made plans for all of them to come to the trailer Sunday for a cookout. Another great day. Played ladder ball, ate, drank and were merry. The weather cooperated. Monday we had a lot to catch up on. Cleaned the trailer, did another load of laundry and went back to Penny's for chicken enchilada dinner with all the kids. Mmmm good! Watched a scary movie--1408. Got back to the trailer and the wind...

First TM Winter Trip

Jan 6, 2009 - A Peak Experience

We were up with the chickens this morning, literally. Peanut and the roosters seem to be on a 5 AM schedule. Gene told me we had 65 miles to go today so I took my time sipping my morning coffee and even enjoyed some of the Today show. Hitch-up went smoothly; I even think we avoided stepping in any chicken poop. As we made our way out onto US 19 southbound, I discovered we had 165 miles today, not 65. We still managed to pull into our campsite in De Funiak Springs by lunch time. It was a great travel day. Both US 19 and I-10 were almost...

Apr 24, 2008 - De Funiak, Florida

Day 135 Thursday - Packed up & moved on towards Florida. Dropped in on Frank & Anna's son Mike & his family at their condo in Pensacola Beach. Just stopped long enough to bum a coffe & have a chat before carrying on along the coast to a nice lakeside park in De Funiak. The petrol prices are rising at an average of 5 cents a day, we had to pay $3.55/gall today.

Mar 20, 2008 - De Funiak Springs

Friday the 14th drove, IN THE RAIN, to De Funiak Springs. Stopped off in Vernon to visit the Three Oaks Winery. Quite different from all the rest. Tasted the wine in plastic medicine type cups. It was good. Something new. They had a mix to add to wine to make a slush. Naturally we had to buy some. Tried it out when we arrived at Mel's daughter's. Mmmm Good. We had also stopped for a tour and tasting in De Funiak Springs at Chautauqua Winery. Here they had fruit wines prepared with juices they purchased. Their Wild Honeyflower and Beach...

Mar 8, 2008 - At 63 & 60 Respectfully, A First

From Sunset King Lake Resort in DeFuniak Springs, Florida 90 miles East of Pensacola, FL Had a nice travel day with lots of sun and today despite it being mostly Interstate driving, we experienced being able to see more incorporated areas including right through Mobile, Alabama. The title comes from Rudy saying as we entered Florida, it was a first for him to be in the state. I also have never been in the state prior to today, so a life's first for both of us. Hopefully one of many firsts to come with this lifestyle. GPSyLady (our Garmin...

Home Sweet RV - 2008

Mar 6, 2008 - De Funiak Springs, Florida

Thursday March 6...10:25pm Slept great last night. We were a little concerned because we were parked across from a bar...but didn't hear any noise from that at all. Also, we had heard quite a few train horns blasting before going to bed, but all was quiet after that. We left our spot about 8:30am, and had to drive pretty much through downtown Mobile to get to the tunnel on the main highway out of town. Was surprised to find that downtown was clear sailing and that we made it our on to the highway with no problems...but then Mobile is not...

Feb 13, 2008 - Leaving Florida

We left Better Times RV Park in Lake Panasoffkee, FL at 7:45 and headed to Ocala where we had the oil changed at Ford of Ocala to get the motorhome ready for the trip west. We lucked out as they had received the wiring harnesses for the cruise control recall. They installed it and we now have cruise control for the trip west. We left Ford of Ocala at about 11:00 a.m. We made it to DeFuniak Springs in the Florida Panhandle where we spent the night at Sunset King Lake Resort, a very nice RV Park. It was a very cold night. There was frost on...
