Dec 18, 2018 - Crawfordville, Florida

One of the best things about this nomadic lifestyle is the good friends we make along the way. When we left Albuquerque, our next destination was to visit with other friends (besides Shannon and Alan) in New Mexico, first at Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge where we volunteered a year ago. The refuge was beautiful as always, as were the birds, and we got to see Christina and Danielle, staff members of the refuge and store, respectively, with whom we had enjoyed working. And we had one last Green Chili Cheeseburger at The Buckhorn...

Jun 11, 2018 - Day 13 - Crawfordville FL

After another really long dog walk and some morning coffee, I call the RV park in Orlando to see if our site is available today instead of tomorrow, but no luck. It's booked, or at least that's what the guy tells me. He sounded really busy and I think it was a just easier to say no and get me off the phone. Oh well, we'll just have to stay another day in Crawfordville - damn the bad luck. Plan B is to drive to St. George Island about an hour west of here. One of the staff at the Seineyard told us it was a beautiful place with a nice state...

Summer 2018 Big Trip

Jun 10, 2018 - Day 12 - Crawfordville FL

Went to mass at a small Catholic church two minutes down the road from the RV park. Visiting priest was a character. Elderly (like most priests these days) - but full of joy and a nice singing voice. Sermon started by trying explain original sin ("it's like second hand smoke - you didn't smoke the cigarette but you're suffering the consequences of somebody else who did") and went all over the map from there. Like I said, a real character. Had lunch at the Seineyard - where else would we go? Probably not a better place within 50 miles of...

Jun 9, 2018 - Day 11 - Crawfordville FL

Another great day in Crawfordville. Early lunch at the Seineyard (again) and then we headed out with the dog to the St. Marks Wildlife Refuge about 15 minutes away. Once you enter the refuge, you drive for about 7 miles through beautiful, unspoiled wetlands area. It's a really big stretch of what appears to be a very healthy, vibrant wetlands; probably hasn't changed much in the past few thousand years. The road ends at a well preserved lighthouse. We couldn't go inside, there was a private function going on, so we just walked around and...

Summer 2018 Big Trip

Jun 8, 2018 - Day 10 - Crawfordville FL

Long early morning (well, early for me) walk with the dog. There's a brand new bike path right outside the park; we walk (and trot) for at least a mile and a half with no end to the path in sight. Brand new asphalt with new grass on either side. Not trivial or cheap to put that in. For a rural area, really a surprise to have such a nice path. The rest of the morning is spent planning the next part of the trip. Our son-in-law recommended an RV park near them in Homestead, so I call there first. No reservations required, so we're good there....

Jun 7, 2018 - Day 9 - Crawfordville, FL

Called both Navy RV parks in Pensacola, the one on the base and the new one north of us on Perdido Bay. No luck at either - both full. So choices are, stay where we are or at the other $110 per night RV park nearby, go to a park a half hour away, or head east. We choose option 3. So after meeting our friend/agent Brenda at the condo for a quick review, we grab a to-go lunch at the same Sunset Grill and head out. I found this golf/RV park on google maps about 50 miles south of Tallahassee. Free golf if you stay at their RV park! Nirvana!...

Mar 15, 2014 - Yancey family reunion

Yancey family reunion at Mysterious Waters on the Wakulla River. Jane's home has been a good place these past few years, underneath is converted to large dining hall, the park next door taken over for BBQ and horseshoes. A walk way out to a dock on the river is always nice. All families represented, expect Betty and Bud, they got caught in N.Y. with a grandchild at a dance try out which proved to be a scam. It was great to catch up with cousins I have not seen in a while and hug aunts and uncles necks!

Dec 23, 2009 - Crawfordville, Florida

Happy 50th Anniversary to my parents today!!! Still in love after all these years. We continued our drive today and, except for a stop at an Animal Hospital, it was fairly uneventful. Why did we stop at an Animal Hospital? Our sweet little Blayde woke up with "gooky-itchy" eyes so we had to have him checked over. Diagnosis: Blayde has Pink Eye. So, $60 later, we now have our little boy on eye drops (which he doesn't seem to mind at all... he really is the most mellow baby I've ever seen) and he is now on the road to recovery. This is the...

Sep 26, 2008 - The Loading Begins

So we all know that packing is a mission all on its own, especially when it’s our own. I knew that there would be a lot of boxes and furniture to load but I think I under estimated the pack rat that is my mother. And just think, she actually got rid of things! Note to self: I may be a pack rat. See doctor about cure . . . . Tomorrow we start our first day of traveling. To tell you the truth, I am quite nervous but excited at the same time. I know that this is a BIG move in my moms life and I am glad that I am able to be a part of it and...
