Oct 21, 2017 - Kennedy Space Center

Started the morning out with a nice Belgian waffle. On down the road and we were going to stop at the visitor center for Kennedy Space Center. We had no idea how large the center is. We toured the rocket garden. Boeing has a huge center of Heroes and Legends that was very interesting. They have two large IMAX theaters with different films. Then we also got a bus tour of the grounds and saw the launch pads they have used over the years. They are huge. Largest single story building in the world, 528 feet high- one story. The transporters that...

Nov 29, 2012 - Something is missing...

Today we spent the day in Cocoa--I got my hair cut, we had a great pizza for lunch, and tonight we are going out on the town. There really isn't all that much town in Cocoa Village, but we are going to the Village Playhouse (a historical old theatre that we can walk to from the marina) to see A Christmas Carol-The Musical. I've seen reviews on TripAdvisor and they are good. Seems --because we are close to Orlando and all the "doings" there-- the talent pool is quite large and the cast quite good. Two of the photos may give you a sense of...

Nov 28, 2012 - Why is it called Cocoa?

The photos today are from St. Augustine, even though we left there 2 days ago. Last night we were at the Daytona Municipal Marina, and I will attach 2 photos from there. The first is something unusual--these beautiful mosaics are on the bridge supports of one of the Daytona bridges--and no one can see them except for people on boats! They are just lovely. The second photo is of the Daytona Beach skyline from the ICW. Larry says he has always thought that the dividing line between north Florida and south Florida was Daytona. Since SO much of...

Mar 18, 2012 - Cocoa and the Space Center

Thursday we drove to the Tampa Airport and picked up Gloria (Ed’s sister) for a week’s stay with us. She arrived right on time at 11 am after her flight from Chicago. We decided to have lunch and go to the Manatee viewing area at the power plant. The warm water from the cooling system is discharged to a channel that goes to the Gulf. The warm water attracts the Manatees and they have built quite a viewing platform and trail out to the end of the channel. The Manatees were not cooperative so we did not see any. We were told with the warmer...

Jul 8, 2011 - Cocoa, FL

We stayed in Aunt Joyce's room at the Best Western Inn and that was so nice of her to allow us in her room. She was a great sport! Thank you Auntie! Our plan was to be in our vehicles the next morning to start heading over to the Kennedy Space Center by 4AM because news reports were saying that there would be 3-4 hour delays! I was up at 3AM because I was not going to be the one that made everyone late to see the Space Shuttle launch! I was ready in 30 minutes and I woke up Tom and the boys, got them ready in 15 minutes. We all met up in...

Apr 4, 2010 - Brevard Art of Sand Festival

Today we went down to Port of Cape Canaveral to see the Art of Sand Festival which started April 2 and goes through May 1. It seems that this festival pulls sculptors from all over. We plan to attend some of the competitions that are scheduled during the next couple of weeks. Will post those when we get there.

Apr 3, 2010 - Shuffle to the Shuttle Launch

Bad news folks. Sue didn't make it to Florida. About 2 hours before she was supposed to leave for the airport, her Dad was taken to the to the hospital, then flow by med-evac mto Philly. He underwent a cardia cath and apparently had a small heart attack and was severly dehydrated. They cleaned out his stents and he appears to be doing well. He left CCU today for a regular room. I'm heading north and am going to try to catch the shuttle launch Monday morning. It appears the launch is a go according to the news today. I hope to get a good...

Mar 13, 2008 - Cocoa, Florida

Thursday March 13...10:30pm Again, we slept in till 8:00am. We're having a hard time getting any kind of an early start. By the time we got on the road it was about 9:30am, and then we stopped for internet and coffee for a while...and then a lunch stop not long after that! And so we didn't get to Kennedy Space Center today, but that's fine, we'll go tomorrow. We did stop at a river that the manatees rest at...and there were about 10 or 12 of them there. What funny looking animals they are. Sort of a cross between a whale and a sea lion,...

Feb 5, 2008 - Although it was a driving day, we did have some lessons!

Got to the RV park around 4:30pm. Headed to site 15, but unfortunately it was already occupied. Got site 60 instead - it wasn’t taken. My job was to back us in. I got out of the RV and started directing Bob into our space. It was a grass spot, so no lines or trees to guide us in. I am doing a fine job of backing Bob into the spot and soon there are about 5 guys over in the lot trying to help. It turns out I was directing Bob into the correct site, however at the wrong angle. After I got over that embarrassment, Bob was on his knees putting...
