May 6, 2014 - Countdown - Bradenton, FL

Five days until departure (Sunday, May 11th). Some stuff sorted but not nearly enough. As usual, last minute decisions about what to take or not take. Unfortunately I generally decide to take way more than I need. I'll see if I can be a little more disciplined this time.

Apr 7, 2014 - Let's Go Check Out The Town

Last day before leaving the state park, we are going to go out in to town to see the area and at the same time do some geocaching. You dont know for sure what you may see or where in town you might go. Pick out a few caches in town and go see what happens. Our first stop is at the Braden Castle Ruins, not much to see today, some walls and that is it or is it? Do you know what "TABBY" means? It is walls composed of lime, sand, crushed shells , and water. This was a two story house built on a hill over looking the Manatee river. In the area...

Apr 4, 2014 - Pulled Muscle !!!!

The plan was to met Brian and spend the day out on the trails finding all the new containers that were put out for the weekend for the Lake Manatee Event. I pulled the calf muscle in my left leg and could not walk more then down the street to the bathhouse in the park. So for today Brian said that he could go out on the trails with Norma for a loop walk for some caches that day and would go out with the both of us in the afternoon in the truck for a few caches. It was nice of him to give us some of his time to go out with Norma on the...

Jan 31, 2014 - Happy Birthday

Today is a special day for someone on board, TOM. And it is a special one also. He turns 62 and can get his old geezer's pass. An old geezer's pass is a pass from the Federal Government. He can receive for a ONE time payment of $10.00 a pass to all National Parks known now as "The America the Beautiful Pass". The next best part is you can camp for 1/2 price at the parks and Corp of Engineer campgrounds that are spread out through out the US. So we started off leaving Bushnell, FL (Sumter Oaks Campground) and met up with some ham radio...

Apr 19, 2013 - Lake Manatee State Park

We went looking at some new travel trailers just for the fun of it a few days ago. We found a Dutchman 24 foot travel trailer just right for us, so we put in for a bank loan from the local bank on a ten year 4 % RV loan. The next day while we were looking at some other trailers , the bank called and told us that we got the bank loan for the trailer. We called the dealer up and was told that we could get our new trailer this Wednesday april 24 , 2013. So we had to do a last camping trip in the old camper before it is gone to the farm !!!! We...

Feb 24, 2013 - Horseshoe Cove Resort

We had a wonderful breakfast with Bob and Charlotte this morning before breaking camp and heading north to Bradenton. We had a great time at Silver Lakes. Last night we had Jackie's mom and grandparents over for supper to our site. We had a nice visit. Silver Lakes is one of the nicest resorts here in Florida. The sites are large and very well manicured. We arrived at Horseshoe Cove at lunch time, and quickly set up camp in preparation to watch the Daytona 500. This resort is rated a 5/5 by Woodall's rating system. Silver Lakes must be a...

Finally got away about 2.30pm a lot later than planned as the trip was not far & was hoping to get...

Feb 26, 2012 - Church and Beach day

Went to church in Bradenton this morning and learned that it is the first Sunday of Lent. I will unselfishly be giving up meat for Lent this year. Then we went to Manatee Beach and laid in the sun and went in the water. Almost lost Parker because with his white skin, hair and diaper, he blended right into the white icing sugary sand. Everyone got a little red because i didn't think to apply sunscreen. How did we get out of the sand @ Daytona Beach? A guy drove by and pulled us out with his truck and a chain! We are at a trailer park and I...
