Mar 31, 2011 - Last day in Belleair Beach, Fl

Again, it rained all day today. Actually, it stormed all day today. There were tornadoes touching down just 5 miles from us. Thunder, lightning were seen and heard and there were flash floods all around us. RV’s turned over, rooftops were ripped from homes and some motels, and mobile homes. Trees came down on top of houses. Needless to say, we stayed inside and actually packed up for our departure tomorrow. Our landlady thought we were leaving today, but thankfully we had signed the lease to depart April 1st. Where to tomorrow? Not sure...

Mar 28, 2011 - Bellair Beach, Florida

We should never have complained about the heat. We know that now! We woke up to thunderstorms and lightning, and heavy rain. That was okay, though. We figured it would pass and the skies would open up. The weather channel said so. By 11:00 am, the rain stopped, and it was just cloudy skies. So, we decided to get back outside and walk down to Crabby Bill’s for lunch. That was a 3 ½ mile walk. So off we went, had some clam chowder and Cleveland Oysters on the half shell (oysters baked with garlic, and covered in parmesan cheese), and a couple...

Mar 27, 2011 - Mar 24 - 27, Belleair Beach

I procrastinated on writing up this trip journal, I know. It’s been pretty tough to stay indoors when the sun is shining, and the weather is cooperating. Turkey swims in the ocean every day, while I do laps in the pool. It has been very relaxing, and a little bit lazy, although we are still putting in our 5 – 10 mile walk every day. One day we walked over the Belleair Causeway to Belleair Bluffs, and had coffee at Maggie May’s (a little breakfast diner). We also hit the flea market again on Saturday morning for some fresh fruit and veggies...

Mar 23, 2011 - Mar 22 - 23, Belleair Beach

March 22nd we got up fairly early and went for groceries. Bryan and Betty arrived back from Orlando around noon. We had lunch out on the balcony and then sat around the pool all afternoon. Supper was steak and lobster tonight. Yummmmmmmy! Another great, sunny day in Belleair Beach. 28 C. After supper we played 10,000 dice game. March 23rd Bryan and Betty packed up and left for the Tampa airport, to fly back to the great white North! Turkey and I vegged by the pool all day, soaking up some more sun.

Mar 21, 2011 - Mar 18 - 21, 2011 Belleair Beach, Fl

I love those lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer...........lol. Sorry, but it has been a few lazy, hazy & crazy days. I apologize for not keeping this trip journal site up to date, but sometimes one must take a few days off, right? So, here it is, all bundled up together. March 18th - Today is kind of a shopping day. We ate a small breakfast, and then headed out to pick up our camera from the repair shop. (The camera broke a couple of weeks ago, so we dropped it off to get fixed). We then checked out the St. Petersburg Mall, where……you...

Mar 17, 2011 - Happy St. Paddy's Day!!

Happy St. Paddy’s Day! We all ate a small breakfast, and then headed for the pool. It’s a hot day today. We hung out most of the afternoon by the pool, and then up to the condo to find some shade. Suppertime rolled around quickly, so we gathered up our St. Paddy’s Day paraphernalia and green outfits (hats, leis, buttons and hair bands) and walked down to the Clearwater Beach city limit to catch the Jolly Trolley. People passed us honking their horns and waving wildly at us. Wonder why? We rode the bus for 6 or 7 miles down to Mickey Quinn’s...

Mar 16, 2011 - Belleair Beach, Florida

Today was a rest day. We had a late breakfast, and then Turkey and I took our bikes to the car wash for a much needed scrub. We stopped in at the Dollar Tree and picked up some St. Patrick’s Day memorabilia, before heading back to the condo. In the afternoon, we started playing a dice game, until supper was ready. Bryan cooked up a batch of pork ribs on the grill, with all the fixings. It was a fairly early night for the girls, as the guys sat up and reminisced about old times!!

Mar 15, 2011 - John's Pass, Madeira Beach, Fl

It’s great to have another couple with us. We decided to go touring around, but none of us wanted to drive, so we bought a day pass for the Jolly Trolley, and rode all the way down to John’s Pass for lunch. There, we dropped in to the newest Florida Hooters, the home of the world’s largest chicken wing…lol. We toured around John’s Pass for an hour or so, and went in and out of all of their touristy shops. Bryan and Turkey both bought some salt water taffy of mixed flavours, including peanut butter. We started walking back towards our...

Mar 14, 2011 - Belleair Beach, Florida...& The Original Hooters

This was a sleep in day for 3 of us (Turkey was up at the crack of dawn, of course). After umpteen cups of coffee, we headed out to the Original Hooters in Clearwater, Florida for breakfast, only miles from our condo. We had a really good meal there, and had our pictures taken. After lunch, we headed to Target and bought a few supplies, before heading back to the Gulf coast. Turkey and Bryan BBQ’d steaks while the girls fixed all the trimmings, including garlic bread. Ymmmmm! Another fun day in the Sunny South!!!

Mar 13, 2011 - Belleair Beach, Florida....the Reids arrive

Shop, shop, shop. We got company today, so had to fill the fridge and get ready for some good old home cooking! Bryan and Betty Reid got off their cruise this morning, and took a shuttle to the airport, where they rented a car. They headed over to the Gulf Coast, and drove around and around and around, and a round-about, getting lost, despite having a gps. Oh well, they made it, and we had a great catch up visit with them until the wee hours of the morning. At one point we thought we lost Bryan, but there he was in the parking lot waving at...

Mar 11, 2011 - Belleair Beach, Florida

Not much to report on today. Slept in for the very first time since retirement (til 8:15 am) Yup, rolled out of bed, a quick shower, breakfast and then off to do errands. My “Check engine soon” light came on on my bike and my cruise control stopped working, so we stopped at the Harley Davidson shop in Clearwater Beach. That took an hour or so, but thankfully it was on warranty. The problem was a computer glitch. Stopped for lunch, and then got groceries. When the retirees tell you it takes all day long to do nothing, that’s a fact! We got...

Mar 10, 2011 - Belleair Beach, Florida

So, we leave today, to go back to Belleair Beach. Unfortunately, we woke up to a torrential downpour!! OMG. What to do?? We checked at the front desk, and the hotel did not have any vacancies. So, I guess we have to wait until it subsides. Check out time was 11:00 am, and by then the rain had stopped. We loaded up our bikes, checked out and rode West towards I-4. Man, oh man there were some black clouds hanging about in the direction we were going. We decided to stop and have some breakfast at Denny’s, which killed another 45 minutes and...
